A white dwarf also known as a core remnant or star diamond was the remnant of a star that had ceased supporting nuclear fusion due to fuel exhaustion, and had undergone stellar death.

White dwarfs were immensely dense, often containing the mass of a star inside the volume of a planet.

Formation[]

White dwarfs formed when stars exhausted their supply of hydrogen fuel, and were no longer able to sustain nuclear fusion. Usually, the stars would enter a short period of helium fusion, during which they would swell up to many times their original volume, becoming red giants. During this process, the stellar core would be crushed to an immense density, becoming a white dwarf.

White dwarfs were incredibly hot, and continued to glow long after the star's original "death".
