The Vex Squad was an elite clone commando squad in the service of the Galactic Republic's Shield operation.

[edit] Training
The commandos from the Vex Squad were born, like any other clone trooper, in the cloning facility of Kamino, but were moved to the Demolition company training facility, a training facility from the Shield operation located inKashyyyk. The commandos were trained there to become veteran soldiers of the Grand army of the Republic, more specifically, demolition experts.
[edit] Second battle of Rhan Yar
The first mission for the Vex Squad was on the icy planet of Rhen Yar. They, along with the Wolf Pack Squad were the only military units from the Shield Operation.
The squad was deployed in the middle of the battle. The Republic forces had already sustained two assaults from the CIS forces but were unable to attack and were waiting reinforcements. The mission of the squad was to slow down the next CIS assault by placing mines in possible roads that vehicles of the Separatists may use. This slowdown would give the time te Republic needs to call reinforcements.
At a first glance, this misson seemed critical for the outcome of the battle. But it wasn't. The commandos soon realised that they were very few to place enough mines and slowdown the CIS forces. They soon called a small reinforcing squad of clone troopers to assist them due to the presence of many CIS scouting forces there.
The squad's main goal was to cover the main road with mines. This road was leading directly to the Republic's main forces and structures. The clones quickly started placing mine all over the road to ensure that no forces could pass it.
