Welcome to Star Wars Fanon! Please be sure to read over, become familiar with and always respect our site's policies. If you have any questions, please let me know. I'm here to help! Smile - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 17:15, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

PicturesEdit

The pictures are shifted to the right because there are too many pictures there. Images are meant to support the text, and if there's not enough text then images shouldn't be placed there. Basically, any image that's shifted off to the right side of the page when it shouldn't be needs to be removed until there's more text. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 20:03, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Images Edit

Noted your problem with Darth Corruticus, and I've sorted it for you. Next time, don't put image thumbnails inside infoboxes and for thumbnails in the article do Image:Whatever.jpg|thumb|right/left|caption, okay? Unit 83111110 Big smallTalk! 20:04, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

  • Actually, Unit, I think he's referring to the fact that all of the images are shifted off to the right. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 20:07, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

About your Force Unleashed Edit

what platform did you get force unleashed for? PS3, xbox 360, wii, psp, or nintendo ds? I got it for ps3, cause it has good graphics. -Clonesaber Stormheadsig(Stormtrooper's Hangout) 22:16, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

I got it on Xbox 360 for the good graphics. One of my friends got it on PS2 for the extra levels. -User:Thenorthernman 22:19, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

  • COOL! My friend has an xbox and he had forceunleashed too. I hear that the extra lvls for ps2 is for PS3 Network now. but its $5.-Clonesaber Stormheadsig(Stormtrooper's Hangout) 22:21, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

That is a rip-off if ever I saw one!! $5 for extra levels!? -User:Thenorthernman 22:24, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Well in britain its £3. for extra. -Clonesaber Stormheadsig(Stormtrooper's Hangout) 22:27, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Still a rip-off. I have a PS2 anyway so I could probably just buy a second copy of the game and get the extra levels! -User:Thenorthernman (UTC)

Ah, probably. I can't be bothered doing the maths (or math depending on where a person is from) -User:Thenorthernman (UTC)

ArchivingEdit

I archived the messages that you deleted. They can be found at User talk:Thenorthernman/Archive 1. Please don't just delete messages; instead, copy and paste them onto a archive page. In addition, please don't try to hide warnings from other users, as these are needed to determine consequences for breaking policies, since most punishments are based on how many times users break a policy. --Michaeldsuarez Sabersmilygreend (Talk) (Deeds) 23:42, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Image sourcing Edit

Stop hand nuvola Warning.

Please read our Image policy and source your images by using the {{Information}} template. If they are not properly sourced within 24 hours, they will be deleted. Drewton Era-old (Drewton's Holocron) 20:25, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Re: e-Book Edit

Well, that depends on what type of story you're writing. What era it's in, who's the main characters, etc., etc. The most important part is just going with it. Use proper grammar and spelling, and make sure it's generally up to Star Wars Fanon standards. If you'd be willing, I could help you if you'd tell me a little more about what you're writing, how long you intend it to be, and things of that nature. Darth Wylind (Talk) 23:32, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Ah, okay. Well, there are several main things you can do. Firstly, don't write a Mary Sue. It's not against any rules or anything like that, but most people don't like them. Secondly, is proper grammar and spelling etc. Nobody likes a story with a million spelling errors and sentences that make no sense at all. Thirdly, is character development. From critics, I seem to lack this, so I recommend asking Atarumaster88 about this. Fourth and final, is the success. Remember, you most likely won't get your first work to be perfect. It will take some time. The main thing is progress. Your first article can downright suck, but the second should be better, and if it's not, then you might want to reconsider the type of writing. Overall, just have fun with it, and follow all the rules. Anything else, feel free to ask. Darth Wylind (Talk) 01:04, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Is this wikia actually a dictatorship?Edit

Do we really have freedom of speech on this wikia? If you want to help me put this to the test, tell me via this page and then put anti-administrator comments on your user pages. If they are ever deleted, then we do not have freedom of speech! Join me, Thenorthernman, as I wage online rebellion against the tyranny of the administrators. If I, or any of my colleagues, are blocked, I will consider the administrators to be nothing more than Nazis who do not want to think that someone is willing to stand up to them and their exaggerated rules! Unsigned comment by Thenorthernman (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

I am writing out of personal experience and from the heart. My experience of you administrators is that you only have the capacity to give us warnings and punishments when we regular users violate any rule, no matter how insignificant it seems to the common person. I know put a question to you out of curiosity. Why have you allowed yourselves to become decedant and complacent, lording your postion over us just as dictators do? Is it because you belive that on this wikia you have absolute power or am I mistaken? Tell me Brandon Rhea, if you were not helped to understand the rules by administrators who never make sense and seem to invent a different rule every day, what would you do? Unsigned comment by Thenorthernman (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

  • Okay, I see where you're coming from, but I think you've misinterpreted a lot of things. First, let me address the helpful part. I can only speak for myself in this regard, but anytime I give a warning I end it by saying "if you have any questions, please let me know". That's after I give the user in question a link to the policy in question. Therefore, what it's translating to is "if you don't understand something about this policy or you have a question about this policy, please let me know". As for whether it seems insignificant to the common person, you'd also be mistaken there. Administrators have not and never will create the policies of this wiki by themselves. Every single one of our policies was voted upon and approved by the "common person" on this wiki. Many of our policies were even proposed by regular users. We also don't invent a different rule every day. I don't know why you think that.
As for giving you warnings, that is required of us. Virtually all of our policies, save for things like personal attacks and vandalism, necessitate that we give a warning. A warning is meant to help you, not to scold you. It tells you what you've been doing wrong and what you need to improve upon. None of us want to give anyone warnings, and we especially don't want it to escalate to a ban. Do you really think we want to ban users? No, we want them to be able to come here and write their fanon. That's the purpose of this wiki and that's what we want everyone to be able to do. Unsigned comment by Thenorthernman (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!
And also, lording our positions over you? We don't do that at all. Administrators on Wikia Wikis are very different than administrators on other websites. We're not the leaders of this website. We are basically members, just like you, who have been given special editing tools by the community. We may have influence, but that influence has also been given to us by members who have shoved us up onto a pedestal. We don't like being seen as the leaders of this wiki, because that's not what an administrator is supposed to be on a Wikia Wiki. We know that and we've said that to members, but there's nothing we can do about it. We also don't have absolute power. Our power was given to us by members, and it can be taken away by members. The members have, in fact, removed administrators from their positions before.
I hope that clears some things up. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 20:40, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

You have still failed to answer my last question. What would you do were you in my position. I recall, months ago, asking an administrator for help in explaining a rule to me. The rule in question was the policy concerning the uploading of images. I never received the help that I requested and as such, did not know what the policy meant, a handicap of my autism and was subsequently banned for twenty four hours a few weeks ago. Clear up this issue for me IN FULL and I will take back everything that I have said thus far and delete all anti-administrator comments I have posted thus far.

  • I can answer you very honestly about what happened when I was in your position as a newer member. When I was new, I didn't get warnings or bans because I read the policies. If you asked a question to an administrator and did not receive an answer, then that's our fault. I don't know who the administrator was, but on behalf of all of us I apologize. That was our fault and it usually doesn't happen. If a user asks us a question, we answer it the vast majority of the time. Again, if your question wasn't answered, we're sorry about that. It usually doesn't happen and we will do our best, just as we always do, to answer any question directed at us. Smile - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 20:53, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Can you explain the afformentioned policy to me very clearly and in full please Brandon? Unsigned comment by Thenorthernman (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

"if you were not helped to understand the rules by administrators who never make sense and seem to invent a different rule every day, what would you do?" Usually, it is explained, albeit with a link to another page. For example, in my warning above for image sourcing, I gave you a link to the Image Policy, which is very helpful in showing how to source images. And if you think that failure to source images is insignificant, it's not, because it has to do with copyright law. If you read our policies, you'll be fine, and it will be the administrator's fault if you're blocked for no valid reason. Drewton Era-old (Drewton's Holocron) 00:17, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Image policy help Edit

Okay, so you want to upload an image. You’re going to want to do that at the Special:Upload page. Once you get there, you’re going to see a big notice that has a blank {{information}} template in it. Copy that template and then paste it into the blank summary box on Special:Upload. Now, I’m going to tell you exactly what you need to write in each section of this template:

Thenorthernman Check TinEye
Information
Attention!

This is any important note about the image. There usually aren’t important notes, so this section is NOT required.

Description

In this section, describe what the image is being used for on Star Wars Fanon.

Source

You need to give the source of the image. This needs to be the ORIGINAL known source. For example, “Google” is NOT a source. Using Google as a source is like writing a research paper and citing “The library” as a source. You would need to cite the website it came from. If your image is from Wookieepedia, then do NOT use that as a source. It’s not a primary/original source. If your image is from Wookieepedia, you need to use the source that THEY provided.

Author/Artist

If you know the author of the image, state it here.

File specs / editing details

If you made any modifications to this image, state what the modifications are here.

Licensing

Either place one of the licensing templates here (you can find a list in the image policy) or you can select one from the drop down menu on Special:Upload.

Other versions

If you know of any other versions of this image on Star Wars Fanon, link to them here. This section is not required, so don’t worry about it.

Once you fill this out in the summary box, you can upload your image. One other thing you need to know about this policy is that while you are allowed to use images uploaded by other users, you may NOT use images that were user-created or heavily modified by a user without their permission. I hope this explanation helped. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 21:28, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Thanks a million Brandon. You're alright for an administrator. One thing I've always wondered. What in the world is a Mary Sue? Unsigned comment by Thenorthernman (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

A Mary Sue is basically the "perfect" character. To give just a very basic description, they have no flaws and can do amazing things for no reason. The good guys really like them and the bad guys really hate them, and they always get the girl or the guy at the end. You can read this for more information. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 22:02, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Right. I've been told that I've written a lot of them. Read Darth Corruticus (my only finished major article) and make your own decision. Unsigned comment by Thenorthernman (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

I'll try to do that if I have the time. Also, don't forget to sign your comments with ~~~~, even if this is your own talk page. Thanks. Smile - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 22:13, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Second image sourcing warning Edit

The sourcing on your images is incorrect. Per the Image Policy, you must state the primary source of the images. So, for example, you need to have Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith for the source of your image. Additionally, {{P-D}} is not the correct licensing. In this case, it's {{Fairuse}} on all of them. Drewton Era-old (Drewton's Holocron) 15:38, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Because they were not sourced properly within 24 hours, they have been deleted. Drewton Era-old (Drewton's Holocron) 15:41, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Image theft Edit

I removed Image:Ucw_insignia.png from your Sith Empire of the Superiors article since that's a custom-made image created by Unit 8311. According to our Image policy, you must obtain permission from the original author in order to use it. Once you've obtained permission to use it, you may add it back in. If there's some sort of mistake, please feel free to tell me. Thanks. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 20:21, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Community? Edit

I have had a look on the community page and have noticed that only the more clebrated of SW fanon's users are on there. Surely, we are all part of the community and not just the users who contribute perahps excessively to fanon? Thenorthernman 17:26, 8 March 2009

Second block Edit

You have been blocked for seventy-two hours (three days) for failing to properly source your image, "Image:Cathar.jpg", in accordance with the image policy. The issue with this image was that you cited Wookieepedia as a source and stated that the image was part of the public domain, both of which are incorrect. All images from Star Wars related material are part of the Fair Use Copyright Laws, meaning you need to source them as {{fairuse}}, {{PermissionAndFairUse}} or {{screenshot}}, depending on which one it applies to. Also, Wookieepedia is NOT a legitimate source. I said that to you flat out when I gave you a detailed explanation, which you said is what you needed in order to know how to source your images. Therefore, unlike last time, you cannot reasonably state that you didn't know what you were doing. I told you exactly what you needed to do.

When you get back, please let me know if you have any additional questions. Thank you for your future cooperation in this regard. It's very important we receive it from you as this is a matter of United States Copyright Law, which we are legally required to follow as a Wikia Wiki. Thanks. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 01:06, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

RE: RE: Image policy Edit

Sorry, Thenorthernman, but even the UK has laws on the usage of copyrightrighted and free material. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 19:25, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

  • What Michael says isn't the reason, though. The reason is that the servers for Wikia, Inc. are located in the state of Florida. Therefore, all members of Wikia, of which you are, are required to adhere to United States Copyright Law when it comes to the fair usage of media uploaded to Wikia wikis. As I said when I blocked you, this entire wiki is legally required to follow that. If you live in Antarctica, you have to follow it. If you live on Pluto, you have to follow it. Your location isn't what matters. It's the location of the Wikia, Inc. servers. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 19:49, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Scratch the Florida part. As I meant to say, Wikia is located in California. Therefore, everything else I said applies. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 14:19, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Infobox images Edit

Hey man, I just wanted to give you a reminder about how to properly format images in articles. Take Darth Aranti for example. Before I edited it just a few moments ago, the image had "thumb" in the formatting, making it a thumbnail. Infobox images are not to be thumbnails, unlike all other images in the article. Also, infobox images in most infoboxes are to be "250px", not anything more than that or else it stretches the page. "250px" fills up the entire infobox without stretching it and without leaving blank space. The only exception is on war and battle articles, where most of those have "300px" but some, such as the four-way battle infobox, have higher than "300px". Just wanted to give you that reminder. Hope it helps! - Brandon Rhea Rebel symbol Blue (talk) 08:03, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Lord Revan Edit

You have done a great job on Lord Revan. I have read all of it (that is out) and it will be interesting to see where it will go. Nice reference to Mass Effect by the way. I also have a link to something, you may already know of it, but....The Old Republic Darth Void (Talk) 18:42, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

As you can see, Neomessiah publicly retired. There's no need to leave comments on old pages about it. Thank you. - Brandon Rhea Rebel symbol Blue (talk) 20:13, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Re: FanonProject Edit

They're collaborative projects that anyone can join. Basically, when you're not working on your own personal fanon you can join the projects and work on collaborative fanon storylines, or you can start your own FanonProject. Was that what you didn't understand or was there more? - Brandon Rhea Rebel symbol Blue (talk) 21:19, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

  • That depends on the project. Someone could make one where it's just the storyline if they wanted. Someone could make one where it's just characters without an actual storyline if they wanted too. Project Cruentus is everything–the storyline (which is almost done), characters, vehicles, vessels, other technology, etc. Project Force Wars will eventually be battles, characters, storyline, etc., but right now it's still in the development stages so article writing hasn't started yet. Article writing won't start until all the details are fleshed out, which may take a little while. - Brandon Rhea Rebel symbol Blue (talk) 21:26, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

Planets and their GovernorsEdit

Your article, Planets and their Governors, fails the Manual of Style, as well as other policies. Please make major updates to it, or it will be deleted. --Darth Wylind (Conference Room) 20:45, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

  • Feel free to delete it. I don't really care about that article and have no idea why I wrote it. Delete 'The Finesse of War' as well, please. --Thenorthernman (Talk) 20:47, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

Are you sure? I cleaned up Planets and their Governors for you. It's a confusing type of article to write, since it's about a book within a fiction story. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 20:53, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

  • I am sure, Brandon. Thank you. --Thenorthernman (Talk) 20:59, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

Alright, done. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 21:00, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

Re: Short storiesEdit

I'd actually read The Order's Case when you first posted it and I took some time and read Ten Hours today. Both were well-written from a technical standpoint. The prose was nice, the plot mostly well developed if a bit verbose in The Order's Case, but I think that's the feel you were going for in that one, that sort of late 19th century tone. I quickly picked up on the obvious parallels in The Order's Case to a certain famous literary detective, including the anagrams, and to be honest, I wasn't a fan of how there wasn't actually much mystery-solving—it was just the Holmes analogue deducing everything without much of a hint or a clue given to the reader for them to solve themselves. One of the things I enjoyed about Holmes is that the solution to the mystery is usually given to the reader in the beginning or middle, but in such a form that they don't realize they had the answer until Holmes explained it. I didn't catch nearly as much of that in The Order's Case, and the weird ways that you tried to make the EU tie-in to Victorian London just didn't make sense in-universe to me, and that made the story less appealing. Gas lights, for example. I'm sort of a purist when it comes to making my stories fit within the established universe, at least in the general setting, so that opinion is incredibly subjective. For someone who doesn't care how well the story fit within any known concept of the EU, they wouldn't care about that. It was indeed a unique approach to fanfic. Ten Hours was a much shorter read. Again, the prose was well-done and the plot thought out well, but I really thought the development of the protagonist (Issoy?) could have used some help. What we did learn of him was in the form of a disjointed and scattered series of thoughts at random intervals, so it's harder for the reader to identify with him. The suspense element was there, and the tension was adequate, but the reader had little reason to care what happened to Issoy. If you were really going for that sort of tragihorror essence, some more description of the surroundings and such might not have been amiss in order to capture the moment fully. Both stories seemed to move just a hair too fast for their own good.

Take this with a grain of salt; I don't seek out KotOR/Old Republic or much care for anything that brings in too much outside influence, so while I've tried to keep my review more objective, the fact that I didn't find them outstanding has less to do with the technical quality and detail work of the plot of your stories (both of which were good) and more to do with those genres and eras not being my cup of tea. Permission to change articleEdit

I would like to ask permission to put Powerstaark on the title of your Jedi Consulars article however you just have to tell me of you don't want me to. I can make my own articles if you don't want me to change yours too much.

By the way I'm sorry to say I took off your Jedi Consular but in my defence I'll say that there was no link to that Jedi Consular so I assumed you'd just given up on it. I'm sorry if this has upset you.--Powerstaark (Talk) 20:06, December 5, 2009 (UTC)

Hey, please don't edit other people's articles and add your character's names to lists etc. as you did to power syndrome without their permission. Cheers, and happy editing. :) --Darth tom (Message me) (Contributions) 16:14, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

It did say "you can help Star Wars fanon by expanding it". I decided to help and expand it. Maybe that instruction needs rewriting? --Thenorthernman (Talk) 16:32, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

That's merely a message copied over from Wookieepedia. Hope this clears up any confusion in future. --Darth tom (Message me) (Contributions) 17:57, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

Rewrite Edit

Hey man, how big of a rewrite are you doing to Darth Kaos? FANs need to be stable, meaning they're not going through any significant changes and aren't marked with any improvement templates. If it's going to be an extensive rewrite that may take awhile, then it'd be best if the article was removed from the FAN page and then put back whenever you're done. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 17:34, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

I'm going through and making those changes you told me to. Should only take a day or two. If you feel that's too long for a FAN to be under rewrite, feel free to withdraw the nomination. --Thenorthernman (Talk) 17:36, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

  • Well I guess that depends. If you're just going through and correcting spelling, grammar, etc. then feel free to leave it on the nomination page, but if it's an actual rewrite of the ENTIRE article then it should be pulled. People might get confused and start reviewing a version that won't even be there in two days time. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 17:38, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

It's just spelling, grammar and getting it up to standard. It's not a complete story change. --Thenorthernman (Talk) 17:46, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

  • Alright. If you want to keep it, just be aware that other users may also be editing the article to do the same thing. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 17:47, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
  • Ok, that didn't take nearly as long as I expected. I may have missed something, so if you find a flaw with the article, don't hesistate to tell me. I want this as good as it can possibly be. --Thenorthernman (Talk) 19:19, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

Whether your work is one of the myriad incarnations of Revan, a Sith Lord with a hard-to-pronounce name, or some random teenager's pet pittin, you'll find an entry where it belongs. (Editor's note: "Best Incarnation of Revan" and "Best Hard-To-Pronounce-Sith" did not make the categories list this year.) It's time to break out the ancient Sith armor and capes, the dress uniforms for every soldier, and something to catch the eye for every pretty lass. And did I mention our sponsors include Sarth's Darths, provider of the finest black capes in the galaxy? Join our star-crossed, er…star-studded collection of Star Wars Fanon administrators including Brandon Rhea, Goodwood, and Trak Nar as we celebrate the individualism and creativity on this wiki. And if you thought this announcement was cheesy, you ain't seen nothing yet. (Consider this a warning to those, like Fiolli, who are lactose intolerant.)

So fire up the hyperdrive, hope it doesn't catapult you a few millennia forwards or backwards in time, and head on over to the Seventh Wiki Awards. We'd love for you to nominate deserving works (including yours!) and help us choose the best entries for this year! We can't pick between all the entries without you! And if you see any other special snowflakes who need invited to the extravaganza, just slap this message on their talk page to spread some holiday cheer… or something.

So from two folks who've contributed far more at Wookieepedia than here, who habitually bring you either terrible puns or delicious pasta, please accept our sincerest invitation to the Seventh Wiki Awards. And remember, we're doing this all for the community, because that's what really matters on this wiki. Right? Yeah…

You have been given gentle direction, help from many users, and yet you continue to disregard this reasonable policy to the point of having two blocks. This one is to show that we man business; keep it up and you'll not only be banned from the upload button, but given a month's vacation.

To contest this block, please contact the blocking administrator with the reason you believe the block is unjustified. GoodwoodDebating Society11,978 Edits 03:14, May 20, 2012 (UTC)
