Template Edit

Hey, I saw what you said in the recent changes. Just wanted to let you know that it was deleted because the only difference was that you removed the small text about the talk page, etc. That's redundant, so there's no need to have two templates like that. That's fine to keep it on a user subpage, though. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 17:34, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

  • Well "The author will soon attend to this" pretty much covers the editing by other users bit, as does the editing policy, unless you specified otherwise. The "you" in "you may remove this notice" etc. refers to you, the author. The template is talking to you. =P As for its redundancy with {{Major}}, that's just basically an all-encompassing template that says a lot of work is being done to it, but there are also, shall we say, sub-templates of that including {{Expansion}} and {{Rewrite}}, to name a few. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 17:41, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, it's fine. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 17:48, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

  • Just so you know, I also deleted your stub template. The main reason is because a stub is not an article that has all of its information. A stub is an article that's lacking in information. Length doesn't necessarily dictate whether an article's a stub. Besides that, it's also redundant and an overly-expanded version of {{Stubby}}. Please don't turn this one into a user subpage, because it's far too long and excessive. Also, in regards to asking users not to edit your article, we have an editing policy that specifically says no one can do that without your permission, unless they're just cleaning up spelling, grammar, etc. If it happens, we simply revert it and ask the user not to do it again. Thanks. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 20:58, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

No problem! - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 21:11, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Re: Thanks for adding categories Edit

I've been User of the Month twice over the last two years. Someone else can have a chance. =P - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 22:28, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Re: Darth Vicious Edit

There are a number of issues that I can see that I’ll broadly go over here. For the infobox, you need to capitalize the first word in every field. That means “None” and “Red” and the like. The “Known apprentices” part is asking for names, not a number. If you don’t have the names, just leave that field blank.

Going to the introduction, there are some grammar issues that I can see, particularly in the use of British English instead of American English. The latter is our standard here, as that’s how SW works are published. You may not be from the United States, but that’s the way we ask that you write articles, just as Wookieepedia asks. There’s also some instances of a non-neutral point of view in the intro, such as your speculation that that it was “probably” due to the dark side.

As for the tense issue, here are two big instances: “Vicious should be furtherly educated for the next 191 years” and “Vicious should become one of the three most important Sith of the time.” That’s all present tense, because you’re saying he should be doing something in the future. Also, “furtherly” isn’t a word.

Outside of that in the introduction, there are a couple of minor but noticeable grammar errors with missing commas and the like, as well as some misspelled words, which I alluded to before. I’d suggest setting your MS Word or equivalent program to American English and then run a spell check using that. There are also some spelling, grammar, and NPOV errors in the article body that you’ll want to be on the lookout for. A few things to look out for are a lack of commas in certain areas, the appropriate use of commas and other punctuation marks after quotation marks, and the correct way to state year names (1,330 BBY instead of 1’330 BBY, etc.). That’s outside of the spelling errors.

Also, I’d ask that you remove all of the empty section headers until you’ve added content to them, and/or that you set them up on a user workspace. Articles aren’t workspaces, so you shouldn’t have empty headers like that. That’s why we remove empty headers from articles when we see them, especially if they’ve been there for quite awhile. We also try not to use lists here, so you should get rid of the bullet list in “Executing Order 66.” If you feel that keeping the names is relevant, just name them in paragraph form.

Finally, we also try to avoid bullets in behind the scenes sections as much as possible. You don’t need to have a bullet underneath your guidelines in order to explain the guideline.

Now that all that’s said, the OOU part of the fanonification template doesn’t mean that you automatically have OOU issues in your article. That’s just one of the things you MAY need to watch out for.

Hope that helps. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 17:54, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

  • There's a difference between what you said and what Wikipedia says. You said "he should become" or whatever. That "should" specifically means it hasn't happened yet and will happen in the future, meaning it's not written in past tense. Remember, Star Wars was "a long time ago," and that's the way we write articles here as well. There is no present or future, only the past. "He would soon become the President of the United States" is different, because the "would soon become" denotes that it already happened, as does "he would later become" (which is the best way to say it, IMO). As for the list, if you intend for this to be a featured article then you need to get rid of the list in both the Order 66 section and the behind the scenes section. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 18:34, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

You can put the issue up for a vote now. You just can't vote on it. I can guarantee you, though, that you won't be satisfied with the result of the vote. This is how we do things here, not just for FAs but for all articles when we come across them (you'll see plenty of users, ie. non-admins, in the RCs removing bullet lists from articles). It's not some mean old oppressive administrators telling you this. This is the community approved standard. We adopted it from the Wookieepedia way of doing things (I don't know why you keep mentioning Wikipedia, as that's entirely different), and we've been doing this for quite awhile now. Like I said in my first response above, you can still list all of the character names in that Order 66 section, just not with bullets. You should also be converting your BTS bullets into paragraph form.

You're doing a fairly good job here so far, but as a new member to the wiki you really need to recognize that there are long-established ways of doing things. Why should the entire wiki change its successful way of operating just to cater to what you want? I'm not trying to sound rude in saying that. I'm just saying that it's best to get used to how a new website your on is operating instead of trying to change every little thing that doesn't suit you. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 18:51, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Template Edit

Hey Friedebarth, quick question for you. What's the purpose of {{Mult issues}}? It seems like a less specific version of templates like {{Cleanup}}, {{Fanonify}}, etc. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 22:40, December 4, 2009 (UTC)

  • The template is just redundant. If you'd like me to remove the templates from your article I will, and I'll replace them with a comment on the article's talk page. I'd rather just delete that Wikipedia stuff since it's not going to be used at all (other than perhaps by you) and since it just creates a redundant and unnecessary template that doesn't fit here anyway. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 22:49, December 4, 2009 (UTC)

Oh, and no problem for the barn star. =) - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 22:49, December 4, 2009 (UTC)

  • I know exactly what template you're talking about, though. I've seen it used on Wikipedia, and it just really doesn't fit here. I can tell you're used to Wikipedia based on some of your previous comments as well, but this just isn't Wikipedia. We're much, much different than them. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 22:58, December 4, 2009 (UTC)

I can almost guarantee you that I won't like it because of its redundancy. ;-) - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 23:04, December 4, 2009 (UTC)

Re: Errors in template? Edit

No idea. Sorry. Also, please don't feed the trolls, such as you did on that user "Fat Tits" talk page. That can also be considered a personal attack, as two wrongs don't make a right. Please don't do that again in the future. Thanks. =) - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 01:26, December 5, 2009 (UTC)

  • Try asking someone who edited it on Wikipedia. They might know. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 17:07, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
