[edit] Origin of The Name

Penguinator-176 was an early screen-name of this RPF regular, taken in early 2001 on the GameFAQs message boards. The -176 ending was merely added because Penguinator's (then) current e-mail used the numbers: as Penguinator had already been taken, the ending stuck and became a habit of including in following incarnations.

At the role-playing forums, Penguinator-176 has been dubbed Pen, Peng, Penguin, and any derivative thereof, but also answers to Ben.

[edit] History at the RPF

Arriving in May of 2005, Penguinator-176 first lurked for a few days, before joining The Altered Clone Wars, an altered-universe game created by Timothor. After a summer of relative silence, Penguinator returned, joining goblin_fire's self titled RPG. This gave him a basic grounding in all things surrounding the RPF.

As Goblin Fire came to an end, the relatively-inexperienced writer found himself posting at Hooper McFinney's Bar and Grille 4.0. This heavily influenced his style of humour for future games. He was also the adoptee of Earwen_Lightrider for a while.

As 2005 became 2006, some changes occurred. For one, Penguinator was becoming acquainted with others, and was something of a familiar face. As the year drew on, Penguinator befriended Dark-Enigma and MASTERPRENN (hereafter referred to as DE and Prenn), and tried his hand at managing his own games, to varying degrees of success.

The year drew on, and Dark-Enigma withdrew from the RPF, as many do in the RPF. However, with each departure came a new arrival, and it was under these circumstances that he met the now-infamous Reynar and Tyi_Maet-Nefer. It was around this time that Imperial_Hammer celebrated his two-year anniversary at the boards, and cited Reynar, Prenn, and Penguinator as players to watch.

With increased enthusiasm, Penguinator celebrated the arrival of the Non-Star Wars RPF, creating what were possibly his most successful games there. However, none were major successes, an issue that still bothers him to this day.

With the creation of the Social Thread at the End of the Galaxy, Penguinator became (along with Reynar Tedros and Master Prenn) a part owner of the thread. Reynar and Penguinator, noted for their notorious knack at killing threads, were eager partners, and currently do their best not to kill it by accident.

[edit] RPG Problems

Penguinator has a history with running unsuccessful RPGs, though some have been well-liked and enjoyed.

They include:

Of this list, Penguinator is most proud of The Steam Chronicles and Persona, feeling them to be his best work, though he notes that his desire to tell a story is what caused their failure.

The failed Doctor Who RPG was a bit of a fiasco for the GM, as his attempts to drive the story resulted in complaints about pushing the characters into a corner.

[edit] Interests and Life

Greatly interested in music, Penguinator takes regular music classes and is heading into a recording and production class in the coming year. His instrument of choice is an old Les Paul copy, dubbed "Anjo" for the brand emblazoned on the headstock. His current favourite guitar is the Epiphone Dot Es-335.

Heavily into movie making, he's only recently begun the foray into short, fun, self-made films.

Favourite things include:

  • Directors David Fincher and Sergio Leone
  • The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
  • Led Zeppelin, particularly the third album
  • Cookie dough ice cream
  • Pirates
  • David Bowie
  • The Venture Brothers
  • The excellent System Lords IV game
  • Halo 3 Beta (that's right!)
  • Impy's Pirates game
  • Guitarists Brent Hinds and Jimmy Page
  • Bang Camaro (who run on dude power)

[edit] Current Events

A reboot of Persona has been put on hold, to make way for a Cowboy Bebop game.
