Drewton's Rules of Fanfiction

  1. Write a fanfic only if you've thought of a good idea.
  2. Follow canon as much as possible.
  3. Avoid using kids as characters. Episode I: The Phantom Menace and my own The Drewton Legacy: Commencement are good examples of how including kids can weaken the story.
  4. Raise interesting psychological questions for both the character(s) and the reader. Remember that the question doesn't always have to be answered in the novel. Example: there are fair points on both sides of whether the Jedi should have gone to war during the Mando War, and there's no clear definitive answer given. Legacy of the Force does a good job with this as well.
  5. "Villains" that are cowardly and/or constantly gloat/boast are overdone. Not related to Star Wars, but all of Durza's dialogue is too lame to read.
  6. Never overdo the comedic side of Han Solo. Because Timothy Zahn overdid it in the Thrawn trilogy, I just couldn't take the books seriously.
  7. Don't have Anakin faultless/near-faultless as The Clone Wars portrays him. Otherwise his turn is completely unbelievable.
  8. Avoid the idea that Anakin died and was a different person than Vader. Otherwise, how is it tragic, and how can there be redemption?
  9. Avoid stories about a kid being taken to join the Jedi Order and becoming extremely powerful.
  10. Don't portray Revan or the Jedi Exile as the most powerful Force users ever, though they may be (and probably are) two of the most powerful Force users of their time.
  11. Avoid writing stories about Revan post-TSL. He's probably dead.
  12. The ordinary citizen doesn't necessarily completely trust Jedi.
  13. Jedi aren't necessarily as good as they might seem to be and Sith aren't necessarily as evil as they may seem to be.
  14. Try to write something different that's come before. In most of the LucasArts games, the dark side ending is ruling the galaxy. But TFU did something different: your girlfriend's dead, you're a slave to the dark side, you're stuck in a life-support suit that's the only thing keeping you alive... Basically, your life sucks.
  15. Vader doesn't enjoy being Vader.
  16. Never write a Mary Sue. The story will automatically fail then.
  17. Yoda isn't an omniscient, all-knowing being who's right about everything.
  18. Any Jedi who's joined the Order around the age of nine should have extreme difficulty at the least adapting and becoming near-emotionless.
  19. Most Sith should have good reasons for doing what they do and be understandable.
  20. Mandos aren't the best thing ever.
  21. "This separatist movement [...] has made it difficult for the limited number of Jedi Knights to maintain peace and order in the galaxy. Senator Amidala [...] is returning to the Galactic Senate to vote on the critical issue of creating an Army of the Republic to assist the overwhelmed Jedi…" Look at those words. Look at them and try to tell me that makes any sense at all. Unless if you think the Republic and Jedi are like "oh, if you want to leave us, we'll get an army and kill you all".
  22. Don't let clone troopers make decisions for themselves and question whether any order is right or wrong as TCW does. Really, the people writing that show seem to have never watched II or III.
  23. Don't use Jar Jar. Ever.
  24. Have good back stories for most of your main characters. Some can even be suprisingly surprising revelations. Atton Rand, for example.
  25. Avoid the old man or some other guy assisting some young guy in rescuing a priness or other young girl pattern. OT, Eragon, POTC. Way overdone.
  26. Romance doesn't need to in every story. It's way overdone too.
  27. The Prophecy of the Chosen One, or at least Lucas's interpretation, is ridiculous. There's always going to be Sith. As long as the dark side exists, they'll always be around. I personally like the theory that the Chosen One is more than just Anakin; it's the one who destroys the Sith in his/her era. This does not mean, however, that they should be constantly be popping up. And how is destroying one side balance? I'd say the only way Anakin could fulfill the prophecy was by destroying both the Jedi and the Sith, thus fulfilling both the groups' interpretations. And I don't see much point in that.
  28. Never give a character four arms. Except if it's Dexter Jettster.
  29. Avoid Lucas's ridiculous backstory for Grievous.
  30. Don't limit planets and characters to those seen in the films. It's a big galaxy.
  31. Revan was the one who corrupted Malak. Don't say otherwise.
  32. If you want to write something really, really important, do it in the KOTOR or Legacy era.
  33. The Legacy era is a great area to write in. Lots of potential for Jedi, Sith, and Imperial Knight characters. And it's a fresh and new era.
  34. Never use timetravel.
  35. If you're writing about something canon, do research on it.
  36. Make sure canon characters' dialogue sounds like something they would say.
  37. Leave the creation of Skywalker characters to canon.
  38. Avoid talking about the Journal of the Whills.
  39. Don't write any major galactic wars from 4 ABY-40 ABY. There's enough already.
  40. Use the old Clone Wars timeline. The new series is a joke compared to preestablished canon.
  41. Avoid references to the Holiday Special.
  42. Write in past tense, unless if you want to go Stover at times.
  43. Finally, avoid typos.

Darth Desolous

Darth Desolous was a Pau'an Dark Lord of the Sith born on Utapau who lived from the time of the reign of Darth Haagen to the Siege of Dantooine. When the Mandalorians invaded Republic space, Desolous heard the call to war and joined Revan and Alek Squinquargesimus's cause, defying the Jedi Council. He was eventually seduced the power of the dark side of the Force, and therefore was exiled from the Jedi Council.

Vowing revenge, Desoluos took on his Sith name and rallied an army to serve him. The war he raged on the Jedi proved brutal, and his reign was finally ended in a battle on Yaga Minor in which his army was destroyed and he himself was thought to be killed. Believing his previous actions to have been mistakes, the defeated Dark Lord gave up a life of war and chose to live in a small cave on Dantooine. He would write many books which spoke of the dark side, including Control of the Force.

Many millennia later, Desolous trained the Jedi Idnum-Ki during the Siege of Dantooine and told him that he could ascend from simply being Jedi or Sith. In 2 BBY, a simulacrum of Desolous fought Darth Vader's secret apprentice, Galen Marek, inside the ruins of the Jedi Trials Chamber.

Idnum-Ki

Idnum-Ki was a Cerean and Jedi Master during the last years of the Galactic Republic. As a Padawan, he had an interest, later leading to an obsession, of Sith holocrons. This entailed much discussion over him from the Jedi High Council, but at the time they merely dismissed it as curiosity. After being made a Jedi Master years later, he took Dular as his apprentice in 34 BBY when the Padawan was abandoned by his previous Master, Xarkun.

In 32 BBY, Idnum-Ki joined the Jedi Council of Seers, a group dedicated to stopping the return of the Sith. He did whatever necessary to stop their possible return, even if that meant killing Ibtiseh, a fellow Jedi who he had foreseen would indirectly cause the death of the Jedi Council members. During the same year, he participated in the Siege of Dantooine, in which he was turned to the dark side of the Force by an ancient Sith named Darth Desolous. Idnum gradually began to feed his own Padawan the same teachings, and made occasional visits to Dantooine for further training from Desolous, though he did not consider himself a Sith at the time.

By the time of the Clone Wars, Idnum-Ki had become a manipulative Dark Jedi. He placed seeds of doubt within his own Padawan, and used even Count Dooku, the leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, as a tool. He had grown powerful enough to strip the Force away from a Jedi or Sith, and conferred once with Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith.

Incident on Adirof's moon

The Incident on Adirof's moon was an event orchestrated in part by Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith, that occured during the Clone Wars. A shuttle piloted by Captain Raymus Drewton and clone trooper pilot Reeves was secretly sent to Adirof, with Dular, a Jedi; three clone troopers including recruited soldiers Commander Kyle Krenis and Lieutenant Tarisian Drewton; and two prisoners, Bodotor Thuvat and Dem Nozah, on board. However, before it could arrive on Adirof, the shuttle was shot down by a Separatist battleship and crash-landed on the planet's moon. All on board except Reeves survived. As the survivors searched for a transport off the seemingly-uninhabited moon, tension rose from previous situations and suspicions had grown from the crash, resulting in them fighting against each other. The fight was quickly interrupted when Separatist droids emerged from the a nearby ocean's water.

After escaping them, the shuttle-crash survivors determined that, because of the Separatist's occupation, there would be Separatist starships on the moon which they could use. Soon after, Dular, the Jedi, was confronted by and dueled Separatist Commander Asajj Ventress. Upon locating a Sheathipede-class transport shuttle, Commander Krenis, Captain Drewton, Lieutenant Drewton, Daklif Ordo, and a clone trooper hijacked it and rescued Dular from the duel. Unknown to them at the time, prisoners Bodotor Thuvat and Dem Nozah had remained on the moon in order to make a deal with Separatist leader Count Dooku. Though the incident did not go exactly according to Darth Sidious's plan, he was confident that enough had been achieved.

Raymus Drewton

Raymus Antilles Drewton was a recruited Captain and excellent pilot in the Clone Army during the last days of the Galactic Republic. He was born on Naboo, a year after the birth of his brother, Tarisian. His father, Drazil Drewton, was assassinated in 32 BBY on the Legacy. Raymus himself was nearly killed by the assassin, barely escaping with his brother by crash-landed via escape pod on Dantooine, which was being attacked by the Kaleesh as a result of Drazil's death. After the battle, they were brought back to their homeplanet by Jedi Master Idnum-Ki.

Almost ten years later, Raymus and Tarisian joined the Republic Peace Keepers and fought skirmishes against the Nockudumey Terrorists. A few months later, they fought in the Battle of Geonosis and became recruits in the Clone Army. Raymus was soon promoted to the rank of Captain by Jaric Mothell at the Battle of Muunilist, where his strategy saved the Republic from defeat. Though he denied it, he was considered brilliant by his superiors.

Months into the war, he and his brother were captured by the Nockudumey. During their captivity, it was revealed that an assassin named Mecupa had killed their father. A skirmish which Raymus and Tarisian participated in followed the denouncement of Bodotor Thuvat, ending with the arrival of Republic forces which rescued the Drewtons forced the Nockudumey to retreat.

At the time of Order 66, he was temporarily the Captain of the Tantive IV, the starship of Senator Bail Organa, under the guise of the prince of Alderaan.

Siege of Dantooine

The Siege of Dantooine was a battle in 32 BBY that followed and partially resulted from the Attack on the Legacy. Originally, the Kaleesh had come to negotiate with the Republic. However, when Senator Drazil Drewton, acting as ambassador for the Republic, did not arrive, they thought that they had been tricked and therefore attacked Khoonda, the autonomous government of Dantooine. Not only Kaleesh assisted in the fight against Khoonda, but also Trade Federation B1 battle droids, mercenaries, and the Mandalorian Crusaders. Ludge Ganler himself, the administrator of Khoonda, was captured, along with Tarisian and Raymus, the sons of Drazil Drewton and sole survivors of the previous assassination attempt.

Searching for the captives, Jedi Master Idnum-Ki entered a cave in which he instead found the Pau'an Sith Darth Desolous. After brief resistance from the Jedi, Desolous taught him much of the dark side of the Force which Idnum would use in the concurrent battle. Meanwhile, his Padawan Dular located the captive Drewtons and freed them.

The Jedi then rejoined the battle, and Idnum-Ki fought against General Sheelal in a lightsaber duel. As he himself was not a Force sensitive, Qymaen was no match for Ki's abilities, and he watched as the Dark Jedi turned the tide of the battle in favor of the Republic with Battle Meditation. Though the defeated General was allowed to escape, Khoonda was victorious, and celebrated hours after the conclusion of the battle.

Daklif Ordo

Daklif Ordo was a Human Mandalorian during the last days of the Galactic Republic. When the Mandalorians became all but extinct following the Battle of Galidraan, Ordo joined the Mandalorian Crusaders, a group of the last remaining Mandalorians, and fought in their nomadic battles. However, when crushed by a defeat, Ordo began to rethink his life and sought a purpose that was more than simply killing and violence. After learning of a terrorist organization called the Nockudumey, he infiltrated it and attempted to learn of its ways so that he would be able to destroy it. During the Clone Wars, Ordo assisted the Galactic Republic, though mostly because a Separatist Commander named Durge sought to destroy all Mandalorians. During the war, he attempted to kill the Nockudumey leader, Bodotor Thuvat, though only before learning of Thuvat's true goals. Thuvat was trying take the Nockudumey back to its founder's original intentions, which did not involve terrorism. Because of this, Daklif assisted him in the Nockudumey Civil Conflict.

First Duel in the Chancellor's Office

The First Duel in the Chancellor's Office was a duel that occurred in 21 BBY between Anakin Skywalker and Dular. Accused of being a traitor to the Republic for assisting former Nockudumey terrorist leader Bodotor Thuvat, who Dular was convinced was innocent, in escaping Republic custody, the Jedi sought to clear his name with evidence brought to him by a Mandalorian named Daklif Ordo. After receiving access to the Republic Executive Building, he eventually made his way to Chancellor Palpatine's office, where he encountered Anakin Skywalker. Loyal to the Chancellor, Skywalker dueled and defeated him. Because of both the Jedi Code and his previous friendship with Dular, Skywalker spared him, to Chancellor Palpatine's disappointment. Daklif Ordo then entered with Jedi Master Mace Windu and presented evidence which cleared Dular's name.

Tarisian Drewton

Tarisian Drewton, born in 43 BBY, was a Human male and recruited clone lieutenant during the Clone Wars. His father, Drazil Drewton, was killed by an assassin in 32 BBY. Tarisian and his brother, Raymus, barely escaped and crashed on Dantooine via escape pod. A battle was being fought at the time, and they were captured by the Kaleesh. However, they were rescued by Jedi, and Idnum-Ki took them back to their homeplanet following the conclusion of the battle.

Ten years later, Tarisian and his brother joined the Republic Peace Keepers and fought skirmishes against the Nockudumey Terrorists led by Bodotor Thuvat, the first on Mithus and the second on Coruscant. Later, they were recruited into the Clone Army. Tarisian became a Lieutenant, and fought many battles in the Clone Wars. He first met Dular on Getato and encountered Daklif Ordo while defending Kamino. One of the most notable battles he fought in was the Battle of Sriran, when the Republic assaulted Delta Station, a Separatist base.

Months into the war, he and his brother were captured by the Nockudumey. Bodotor Thuvat told Tarisian that the Nockudumey was not actually meant to be a terrorist organization by its founder Revan, but that his successors had turned it into one. Tarisian's doubts were eventually weakened, and later, he was told by a terrorist named Mecupa that he had killed his father. Tarisian tried to avenge Drazil, but his brawl with Mecupa was interrupted when Daklif Ordo arrived unexpectedly. Ordo told Mecupa that Thuvat was making a speech, one that Mecupa visited, and while present, denounced Bodotor. A skirmish followed which Tarisian and Raymus participated in, ending with the arrival of Republic forces which rescued the Drewtons forced the Nockudumey to retreat.
