A Guide To My IRC status

I am, at most times, present on this site's IRC Channel, and frequently use a variety of status messages. I will place them here, so users know what I am up to, and will not get discouraged or angry if I do not respond immediately.

Recently, I have been going by "Jerry_Cantrell". The name is for Alice In Chains' guitarist, Jerry Cantrell.

CBT - I am at the computer, and able to converse.
CBT|Around - I may or may not be at the computer screen, but am in the house.
CBT|Away - I am away from the keyboard. Usually used when I go outside, but still at the house.
CBT|Out - I am not at the house.
CBT|Sleep - I am asleep. Needless to say, you won't get a response.

Various other display messages are sometimes used, and should be treated as "Around".

The Viewpoint

As many other users are placing their views on the site, I will follow suit and place my own views on my user page, instead of on a sub-page. Well anyway, first, let's start with the way many articles are structured. Poorly. Yes, this is a site where anyone can come to put down their ideas. No, we don't allow anything to be posted up, and I'll tell you why. Because it takes us back to the days of this site being perceived as a place that is run by twelve year old children. Though, in the past, admittedly, I have acted like one towards a great deal of people. Yes, I once ran around this site like a madman claiming that everything had to be perfect. But as the days wore on, and I eventually brought about my own downfall, I took time off to reflect on my life as a whole. During my time away from this site. "What are you doing?" was one of the many questions I asked myself. And I mean, really, what was I doing? I was going around getting in people's faces about bullshit. I mean seriously, was I that childish? No, you don't need to put messages on my talk page telling me the answer, because I know what it is.
When all was said and done, and I finally confronted my demons, I returned to find that the site was running on all cylinders, at full power. This is a great thing. I hope it continues to do so.
After the reformation, the site quieted down considerably, save for the occasional vandal. And we have a handful of new users making their way here, from various other Star Wars related sites.
But getting back to the point of this whole thing here, no, we don't allow anyone to post any old story. The reason being that it looks like something a child would write. (Again, going back to the days of old.) I don't appreciate being categorized as an immature child. This is the reason why so many of us get on the cases of others to make sure to write neatly, and to use proper grammar. And, while I have not personally criticized someone on whether or not they grasp the English language, I will, however, say something when it contains content that looks like this.

Look, I'm not about perfection, and I am not saying you have to be a prodigy of the English language, and always speak properly, and to always be one hundred percent dead on with your typing. But, please, at least make it comprehensible. And the kicker is, when we let these people know that they aren't making any sense, and then offer assistance, we get the usual "u cant tel mi 2 du any thin". How are we supposed to help anyone when they will not accept it? Call me anything you like, the fact remains that a lot of others do try to assist these users, but only end up being assaulted with immaturity.
The next topic I would like to explore is general fan fiction. I write my characters alongside many canon characters because, after all, who wants their creation to be considered nothing? A great quote comes to mind when I think of this.

See? Who wants to be forgotten? Moving on to another area is the overall reception of articles. What many people fail to realize is that their beloved "canon", I use the quotations as the Star Wars universe has since become quite laughable, though, that too is my own opinion, is garbage. And please, don't waste either of our time by telling me that I'm wrong, because if you disagree with me, we've already come to a stalemate. But getting back to the topic at hand, many characters from canon are typical "Mary-Sues" and began as an idea in the mind of a fan just like you and I. The characters in the "Expanded Universe" operate alongside canon characters. Does that make them immediately less interesting? I would say not. I find it immensely amusing that people take the notion of canon so seriously as to say that there are "...set rules and set canon...". What? What the hell are you talking about, set? It's an imaginary universe conceived by someone just like you, and just like me. And who knows, today's fanonites may be the next George Lucas. So don't cut down someone's imagination just because they want to write an alternate universe that contradicts the one that you "know".

A General Reflection

I find it quite amusing that people still seem to have nothing to do but vandalize wiki pages. Yes, you are quite "1337", being able to click on a button that allows you to edit any page on the site. Yup, as a matter of fact, I have buttons that I press too. It's called a "block" button, and I will continue to use it so long as we have little children that continue to do these things, and then after I block them, they go to another wiki site, and bitch and complain on my talk page there. But, honestly, I can't say I don't get a little bit of enjoyment out of it...
