[edit] Biography
[edit] Early life
Very little was known about the events around Revan’s birth. There were claims that he was born beyond the Outer Rim Territories, though those reports remained unconfirmed, as did any information about his parentage, homeworld and birth name. Despite this, it was known that he was located by the Jedi Order at a young age and was deemed suitable for training in the ways of the Force by the Jedi High Council.[1]
Jedi Master Kreia was Revan’s first instructor in the ways of the Jedi, and it was said that she trained Revan on Dantooine.[2] Revan also spent some time at the Great Jedi Pyramid on Coruscant, where he and his closest friend, Alex Squinquargesimus, often visited Jedi Master Zhar Lestin for additional training. During this time, elder Jedi noted Revan’s desire for knowledge, though they dismissed it as exuberance and eagerness and believed that he would be a future champion of the Jedi Order. Master Vrook Lamar, however, claimed that Revan was too eager to learn about the Force and that he sought knowledge of ancient Sith practices.[3]
Revan came to leave Kreia’s tutelage, instead opting to study beneath numerous Jedi Masters at one time. These included Zhar Lestin, Dorak and Arren Kae. Revan studied the process of Force bonding, among other techniques, and eventually Revan returned to Kreia. She claimed that he realized there was nothing further he could learn from the Jedi Order, aside from how he could leave it.[1] Although the exact details were not known, the general consensus amongst the Jedi Masters on Dantooine was that, although he had been promising as a Jedi Padawan, Revan became headstrong, proud and far too quick to dismiss the lure of the dark side of the Force.[3]
[edit] Revanchist
In the years that followed, Revan became what was said to have been a powerful and charasmatic Jedi Knight. When skirmishes in the Outer Rim broke out between the Galactic Republic and the Mandalorian Clans, Revan moved throughout the Jedi Order and argued for Jedi intervention. Although he was at first a lone voice in the Order, considered the “Jedi’s own crusader” by the Republic media, Revan gradually gathered a following. The first to join Revan’s cause was Alek, who then aided his friend in further recruiting efforts.[4]
In 3,964 BBY, Revan was considered the honorary “Jedi Master” by those who followed him, specifically Alek. Revan made the decision to journey to the Mandalorian front, against the wishes of the Jedi High Council, so he could scout out enemy lines.[4] On the way, Revan and his followers made a detour to Taris, where Revan hoped to recruit more Jedi to his cause from the Jedi Tower. However, neither Revan’s acquaintance Lucien Draay or any of the other Jedi on the planet were willing to follow.[5]
Shortly after leaving Taris, Revan left most of his followers on Suurja while he investigated events on Onderon and Dxun. Although he reported his findings to the Jedi High Council shortly after the onset of the Mandalorian Wars, the Council told him that there was still no cause for Jedi intervention and sent him on a mission to rescue those of his followers who had been captured during the Fourth Battle of Suurja.[6]
Ultimately, Revan’s captive followers were saved from the experiments of the so-called sadistic Demagol by Zayne Carrick and Rohlan Dyre.[7] Once reunited with his followers, Revan’s campaign for Jedi intervention in the Mandalorian Wars continued, although somewhat differently than before. Whereas his efforts had been previously said to be based on curiosity, the context of the larger Mandalorian Wars made him somewhat of a celebrity. As his followers came to be known as the Revanchist, the Republic cast Revan in the role of a crusading savior who was wrongfully ignored by an arrogantly indecisive Jedi Council. Shortly thereafter, Revan himself came to be known as “the Revanchist”.[4]
Revan continued to travel the galaxy during this time, taking his message of Jedi intervention to whoever would listen. While on Cathar, Revan and many other Jedi felt the deaths of thousands during the Battle of Serroco as the Mandalorians dropped nuclear warheads on the surface.[8] A short time later, Revan was invited to bid on the exogorth superweapons that Arkoh Adasca was selling on behalf of his faction within the Jedi. Unable to attend due to business elsewhere, Revan sent Alek in his place. Several Jedi had visions concerning the exogorths and the role they would play in the war, so Revan instructed Alek to ensure that the danger they presented was removed as a threat.[9]
Shortly after the Battle of Omonoth, the siege of Taris and the bombardment of Jebble, Lucien Draay was appointed to the Jedi High Council. Draay was able to further convince the Jedi Council that Revan’s interventionist ideals were wrong for the Republic and the Jedi, and they agreed to recall or, if necessary, detain the so-called pro-war renegades.[10]
[edit] The Mandalorian Wars
As the Mandaloian Wars continued, many began to see the Republic forces as desperate, as they were continuously requesting the aide of the Jedi Council. However, the Jedi Council continued to say that they were unwilling to follow into another war so soon after the Great Sith War, and they also feared a greater threat was at work. However, Revan and his followers disagreed, and after the galaxy began to speak of the devastating details of the Battle of Cathar, albeit several years after the fact, Revan used them to his advantage. Rebelling against their authority, Revan ignored the decisions of the Jedi High Council and issued a full call to arms in the Jedi Order. He ceased to argue for Jedi intervention, deciding instead that he would lead an intervention force himself. Alek was the first to join him, but soon after hundreds of Jedi joined Revan’s forces and agreed to fight alongside him against the Mandalorian Clans.[3]
After Revan led his forces into the war, many agreed that it would act as a turning point due to what they believed was Revan’s strategic and tactical superiority and Alek’s courage and determination, all of which allowed them to become heroes to Republic citizens. Claiming numerous victories, Revan and Alek were sent through the ranks of the Republican forces and were given direct control over a third of the Republic’s fleet. With his newfound authority, Revan led the Republic war effort and began to push the Mandalorians back.[3]
Revan and Alek liberated Taris, fought Cassus Fett at Jaga’s Cluster and defeated much of the Mandalorian army at Althir. However, despite these victories, concerns were raised over the behavior of the Jedi fighting for the Republic. Although military commanders believed Revan’s tactics were nearly flawless, he and Alek began to adopt similar characteristics to the Mandalorians they were fighting, growing to despite weakness and indecisiveness in their ranks. Around this time, Revan ordered a Republic technician named Bao-Dur to begin construction on a weapon called the Mass Shadow Generator.[11]
According to some closer to him, a darkness began to grow inside Revan, although it was not just due to his experiences with Mandalorians. In 3,963 BBY, Revan visited the ancient Sith world of Malachor V while scouting for new outposts along the embattled Outer Rim, and when he arrived on the surface he was assaulted by the dark side energies that existed on the world. Through what he deemed to be the strength of his will, he was able to feed on the power without being consumed by it.[11]
As Revan explored the planet, he found the Trayus Academy, an abandoned training center built by a Sith faction called the True Sith. Revan also learned the exact location of Korriban, the homeworld of the Sith, as well as its significance to the Sith.[11] According to Kreia, as he continued to learn more about the True Sith, he embraced the Sith teachings in order to prevent a so-called greater evil from surfacing.[1]
Upon returning the war, Revan led the Mandalorians into a final confrontation over Malachor V. The Republic had finished construction on the Mass Shadow Generator, which Revan intended to use against the Mandalorian fleet, as well as Republic forces and Jedi who were not entirely loyal to him. Revan entrusted the device’s activation to Jedi General Jaxia Veers, and went on to battle and kill Mandalore the Ultimate himself. After the activation of the Mass Shadow Generator, the Mandalorian forces suffered almost a complete loss of their forces, and the Republic forces were also damaged. The power of the device also turned many Jedi to the dark side.[3]
After the battle, Revan denied the defeated Mandalorian forces their leader’s ancestral mask, and with it their ability to choose a successor. Revan ordered his forces to strip them of their weapons and armor, and to dismantle their Basilisk war droids. Revan condemned the Mandalorians to perpetual exile, and many became bounty hunters, bodyguards and mercenaries. Combined with the victory in the war itself, this allowed Revan to be hailed as a savior by the Republic. However, what those who praised him did not know was that the Sith teachings were already making their way through the ranks of those that had followed him.[3]
[edit] Quest
While the Republic was still savoring the victory over the Mandalorians, Revan and Alek secretly traveled to Dantooine and entered an ancient burial mound located near the Jedi Enclave. After successfully passing a set of trials given to them by a guard droid that had been left behind by the “builders”, they were given access to a Star Map that led the way to a weapon called the Star Forge. Before viewing it, however, Alek warned that if they were to view it then they would never be able to return to the Jedi Order, as the Jedi would know that they had fallen to the dark side. Despite this, they cast any doubts they had aside, instead deciding to view the Star Map.[3]
After examining the Star Map on Dantooine, they realized that the map was incomplete and that there were further devices spread throughout the galaxy. Revan and Alek were able to locate additional Star Maps in the Dune Sea on Tatooine, the Shadowlands on Kashyyyk, the ocean floor of Manaan and the tombs of Korriban. While on Kashyyyk, Revan installed an interface to restrict access to the planet’s Star Map.[3] While on Korriban, they also learned more about the First Sith Empire and declared themselves to be the new Dark Lords of the Sith, dubbing themselves Darth Revan and Darth Malak. Revan declared himself to be the master, taking on Malak as his apprentice.[2]
In an act that surprised most in the Republic and the Jedi Order, Revan and Malak gathered the remainder of their fleet and disappeared from the known galaxy. They claimed that they were searching for the remainder of the Mandalorian fleet, though in reality they used the information from the Star Maps to travel to the previously-unknown Lehon system. Upon their arrival, they crashed on the planet Lehon and were attacked by the Black Rakata who attempted to take them prisoner. Revan and Malak defeated them, and although he could not understand their language he used a Force technique to rip it from their minds, driving Galactic Basic Standard into their thoughts as well.[3]
After forcing the Black Rakata into submission, Revan had them take him and Malak to meet their leader, The One. After giving the Rakatan leader the knowledge of Galactic Basic Standard, Revan explained that he was pursuing the power of the Star Forge and that he would require access to the Temple of the Ancients. However, neither The One or his followers had knowledge that his species had built the Star Forge in the past, although they were able to promise him access to the Temple of the Ancients if he were to slaughter the Elders, a rival Rakatan tribe. Revan swore he would do so, but after realizing that the Elders were also likely in possession of the answers he sought he instead approached them in peace. Through the Elders, Revan learned about the ancient Rakatan and their fallen empire, as well as the disruptor-field that had caused the vessel carrying him and Malak to crash.[3]
Revan sensed that the Elders had a disdain for the violent past of their species, so he proclaimed himself to be a servant of the light side and that he was searching for a way to destroy the Star Forge. The Elders trusted him and granted him and Malak access to the Temple of the Ancients. In response, Revan promised that they would return after destroying the Star Forge, though in reality they had no intention to act on either promise. Once inside, Revan and Malak were able to shut down the disruptor field and leave the planet.[3]
Leading his hidden forces to the Lehon system, Revan began to formulate his plans and officially founded the Second Sith Empire. He recognized that the Star Forge was capable of granting a large amount of power to those who fully embraced it, but he also understood the consequences and so he minimized his exposure to the station and used it only to construct a fleet large enough to conquer the Galactic Republic. Malak was confused as to why Revan would reject the full power of the Star Forge, though Revan understood that the station was what fueled the hatred within the Rakatan species and led them to the civil war that destroyed their Infinite Empire. Revan did not intend to let that happen to him.[3] Before deciding to leave Lehon, Revan recorded a holocron that stated his views on the ways of the Sith Lords and left it inside of the Temple of the Ancients.[12]
[edit] Jedi Civil War
One year after he first disappeared, and when his fleet was prepared to his satisfaction, Revan led his Sith armada back into Republic space, revealing himself as the Dark Lord of the Sith.[13] In an effort to end what he said was the tyranny of the Jedi Council, Revan launched the Jedi Civil War and pledged to topple both the Jedi Order and the Republic while doing little damage to its underlying industrial infrastructure. The first attack his forces led was the Battle of Foerost, where they overcame surprised defenses and captured a large amount of the Republic fleet that had been based in drydocks around the planet.[1]
Under his leadership, Sith forces bypassed militarily vital planets after Foerost that he deemed necessary for future galactic defenses against the threat of the True Sith. Revan explained his plan for keeping the Republic largely intact as an effort to minimize post-war rebuilding, and so he could begin his rule with a functional military and economy, although he did see to the assassinations of a number of Republic politicians. Despite this, he also believed that if he failed in conquering the galaxy, the Republic would at least be more capable of defending itself.[1]
Knowing that the war with the Jedi would be decided by whoever had superior and stronger numbers, Revan pioneered previously-unknown Sith tactics that relied on secrecy rather than brute force. His Sith assassins infiltrated the Republic to kill or abduct Jedi throughout known space, and he reestablished strongholds and academies upon worlds strong in the Force such as Lehon, Dxun and Korriban, the latter becoming the capital of the Second Sith Empire. On these planets, the followers that he deemed to be most faithful converted captured Jedi to the dark side.[1] Revan also kidnapped some of his own Force-sensitive soldiers and converted them into Dark Jedi, as well as utilizing assassin droids, such as HK-47, whom he created himself, to eliminate threats to him.[3]
Using Malak as his top general, Revan was able to create alliances necessary to expedite the support and deployment of his forces. The Second Sith Empire conspired with the Czerka Corporation, one of the richest galactic companies of the time, to gather resources. Revan also secured diplomatic relations with Manaan so they would be able to export the healing agent kolto.[3]
Around this time, Revan ordered the capture of Telos IV. However, under Malak’s direct order, defected former Republic Admiral Saul Karath bombed and attacked the civilian population without warning. Half of the Republic fleet docked at Telos was destroyed, and thousands were killed. The attack itself left the environment devastated, with the atmosphere degraded into acidic vapor and all of the plant and animal life dead. Revan’s reaction to this event was unknown.[3]
The Sith continued win each battle they undertook, until a Jedi Padawan named Bastila Shan was brought into the conflicts with her battle meditation, a Force power that increased the combat effectiveness of the Republic forces and drained the will of enemy combatants. However, even with Bastila’s aid, the Republic recognized that they would not be able to hold out long against the Sith. In an attempt to end the war, the Republic and the Jedi set a trap for Revan and Malak, luring them into a battle against a smaller fleet. During the battle, Bastila led a team of Jedi onto Revan’s flagship and cornered him on the bridge, though Revan did not appear fazed by the strike team. He quickly eliminated the Republic soldiers, although the Jedi took down Revan’s Dark Jedi forces.[3]
As Revan prepared to fight the Jedi, Malak ordered the ships under the command to fire on Revan’s flagship’s bridge, betraying his friend and master in the hopes of destroying both Revan and the Jedi forces. Although Malak believed Revan had been killed, he had only been injured and the Force, along with the Jedi, kept him alive. Bastila somehow used her mind to keep Revan alive due to her Jedi beliefs, and through that act Revan and Bastila’s minds became tied together in a Force bond. Bastila took Revan off of the ship while the Sith, believing their Dark Lord to be dead, retreated from the battle.[3]
While en route to the Great Jedi Pyramid, Bastila stabilized Revan, although he was still in critical condition with a fractured mind. Bastila brought him to the Jedi who debated what course of action to take. In the end, in an effort to find out how Revan raised what they felt was an unbeatable fleet, the Jedi High Council decided that they would rely on Bastila’s bond with him and try to draw out his memories. To do this, Revan’s mind was reprogrammed by the Jedi High Council in order to conceal his identity and draw out his memories.[3]
[edit] Search for Bastila
Under an implanted name and a false identity he believed to be the truth, Revan was enlisted as a common soldier in the Republic army where he was placed under Bastila’s command on the Republic warship Endar Spire, having no recollection of his former Force powers. Darth Malak believed his former master was dead and so devoted all of his forces to hunt for Bastila, eventually catching up with her and the Endar Spire over Taris where he attacked it. Revan awoke from sleep in the middle of the battle and proceeded to fight his way off of the ship with the aid of Trask Ulgo, a fellow soldier. As they were making their way to find Bastila, Ulgo sacrificed himself to save Revan from what he believed was a Dark Jedi, though it was actually Malak’s apprentice Darth Bandon.[3]
Fighting his way through the ship, Revan was eventually contacted by Carth Onasi, who told him that they were the only two left on the ship. With Carth’s help, Revan found his way to the escape pods where he and Carth managed to escape just moments before the Endar Spire was destroyed. Revan was knocked unconscious during the crash so Carth brought him to an abandoned apartment before briefly leaving him to scout the area. Carth learned that most of the escape pods had crashed into the Tarsian Undercity and speculated that Bastila was alive there. As Carth continued scouting, Revan had a vision through the Force while he was sleeping that showed him the Jedi attack on his flagship shortly before he lost his memories. When he finally woke up a few days later, Carth told him that Revan had been trashing in his sleep for days.[3]
After Revan was awake, he and Carth agreed to search for Bastila. As they left the apartment, they found themselves in a fight against a group of Sith soldiers threatening the co-owner of the property, and they managed to defeat the troops. Continuing their search, Revan and Carth checked local cantinas and other Upper City locations, and eventually realized that they needed to travel into the Lower City, though they would need a disguise to get past the Sith guard. In the North Apartments, they found a Sith interrogation of a black market dealer, and Revan and Carth defeated the Sith to protect the Aqualish dealer. The dealer told them that he had been attempting to acquire Sith armor for the Hidden Beks, a Lower City swoop gang, but he was unable to provide the two with any. However, they did take the armor from the bodies of the Sith interrogators and were able to make their way into the Lower City.[3]
After entering the Lower City, they made their way to Javyar’s Cantina, a haven for bounty hunters, pazaak players, gang members and other citizens. At the cantina, they met Mission Vao, a young Twi'lek Tarisian, and her partner Zaalbar, a Wookiee. Mission viewed herself as Revan and Carth’s “welcome party” to Taris, and answered as many of their questions as she could. Eventually, she and Zaalbar left, and Revan and Carth decided to head for the Hidden Bek Base where they met Gadon Thek, the gang leader. Thek told them that Bastila had been captured by the Black Vulkars, a rival swoop gang, and she had become the prize in the Tarisian Season Opener. The only way to rescue Bastila was to win the race, and Thek offered to sponsor Revan if he could retrieve a prototype accelerator that the Vulkar’s had stolen.[3]
Revan and Carth agreed and made their way to the Undercity, using stolen security papers, where they hoped to find Mission and Zalbaar once again, whom Thek had suggested would be able to lead them into the Black Vulkar Base inside the sewers. When they entered the Undercity, they encountered the Outcasts that were forced to live there. They learned about the Rakghoul disease and were told not to go beyond the city gates, although they chose to do so anyway. Once they did, they were attacked by rakghoul, but were able to escape into the sewers. However, once they arrived, they encountered Gamorrean slavers who also attacked them, as well as more rakghoul. As they fought their way through, they found Mission and also discovered that Zaalbar had been captured by Gamorreans, although the group eventually found him and Zaalbar pledged a life debt to Revan. After having helped Mission, she was able to lower the force field to the Vulkar base and allow them to gain entry.[3]
Moving deeper into the sewers, Revan led the group towards the Black Vulkar base, which was guarded by a rancor that had made the area its lair. They were able to defeat the rancor using a poisonous grenade and gained access to the base. Once inside, the group searched for the prototype accelerator, having to shut down numerous defense systems and defeat a number of guards in the process. Gaining access to the garage, Revan and the group defeated Vulkar enforcer Kandon Ark and his three bodyguards, all of whom were guarding the accelerator. Once it was in their possession, they returned to the Hidden Bek Base.[3]
Once they returned the accelerator, Thek kept his word and sponsored Revan in the race, although he warned him that the accelerator that was to be used on his swoop was not entirely stable so it could have exploded and killed him. The next day, after learning how to race a swoop bike, Revan entered into the race and had a successful first run, though his time was beaten. By the end of all of the races, Revan had the highest time, though the Vulkar’s announced that Revan used a prototype to cheat and that he should be stripped of the prize, which was ownership of Bastila. As the Vulkar’s began to attack, Bastila freed herself from her restraints, and along with Revan and the others she was able to help defeat the Vulkars. Bastila was spiteful of Revan at first, scolding him by saying that it was a poorly attempted rescue attempt. However, once Revan told her that he was with Carth, she ordered him to bring her to him, so they returned to the Upper City apartment where the entire group began to discuss how to escape the Sith blockade around Taris. During that session, Bastila also apologized to Revan for her initial response to his rescue.[3]
[edit] Escaping Taris
The group knew that they needed a plan to escape Taris, and after coming to the consensus to keep searching for one they left the apartment to find a way off of the planet. When they left the apartment, Revan was approached by a messenger sent by Mandalorian mercenary Canderous Ordo who requested a meeting in Javyar’s Cantina to discuss an offer that Canderous said Revan would not want to refuse. When they arrived, Canderous told him that he was impressed with his victory in the race and the skirmish that followed, and he felt that Revan was a perfect fit for his goal of leaving the planet. Canderous said that he would be able to provide a ship to leave the planet if Revan could find the blockade codes inside the Sith Military Base.[3]
Because the Sith Military Base required an astromech droid to unlock and open the door, Revan spoke with Janice Nall, a droid builder in the Upper City. Telling her that Canderous had sent him, she agreed to sell him a droid for two thousand credits that Davik Kang, leader of the Exhange on Taris, had ordered. After acquiring the droid, named T3-M4, Revan and the group proceeded to the Sith Military Base.[3]
Once inside the base, the receptionist sounded the alarm, causing numerous guards and sentry droids to be alerted to their presence. During a fight with a group of guards, Revan was able to acquire a Sith passcard, but in order to reach the elevator it was used in the group first had to destroy a heavily-shielded security droid. Once that was done, they proceeded to the next level and found the room of the Tarisian Sith Governor, who revealed that Revan was Force-sensitive. The Governor attacked Revan, though Revan was able to kill him and steal the launch codes, after which he and the group fled the base.[3]
Upon leaving the base, Revan led the group back to Javyar’s Cantina to meet with Canderous, who in turn brought them to Davik Kang’s estate under the guise of Revan being a new recruit. Canderous assumed that Kang would have Revan stay at the estate while conducting background checks, although Bastila disapproved of the plan but agreed to it anyway. Once inside the estate, Revan met Kang and bounty hunter Calo Nord. Kang agreed to look into the prospect of bringing Revan into the Exchange as a recruit, and after a tour of the estate Revan was told that he would not venture beyond the guest area or disturb the other guests without the guards attacking them.[3]
After Kang left, Revan and the others began looking for a way to disable the security systems of Kang’s personal ship, the Ebon Hawk. They came upon legions of guards who attacked them, though they were able to fight through and slice into a computer to disable the security systems. Lacking the launch codes, Revan and the others entered an interrogation room where the former pilot of the Ebon Hawk, Hudrow, was being tortured. They saved him, and to repay the debt Hudrow provided them with the launch codes.[3]
Revan and Canderous led the others to the hangar, but as they arrived explosions began to break out across the city, causing the estate to begin to crumble. While inside the hangar, Kang and Calo Nord saw the group trying to escape onto the Ebon Hawk and attacked them, and during the ensuing shootout Canderous killed Kang and a piece of the hangar collapsed onto Nord, seemingly killing him. Revan and the group then boarded the Ebon Hawk and took off for the apartment where the rest of the group was, and as they were they realized that the Sith were bombarding the entire surface of the planet, likely in an attempt to kill Bastilla.[3]
As the Ebon Hawk made its way into orbit, it was caught up in the Battle of Taris. Sith fighters attacked the ship, and Revan manned the gun turrets to fend them off while Carth piloted the ship. Once the fighters were dealt with, Carth set a course for the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine and immediately made the jump into hyperspace. Behind them, the entire surface of Taris was bombed, destroying the vast majority of the planet.[3]
[edit] Jedi training
When the Ebon Hawk arrived on Dantooine, Bastila went ahead and spoke to the Dantooine Jedi Council about the events on Taris. After she informed them of Revan, the Council requested to meet him. Bastila presented him to the Council, and Zhar Lestin said that they had been discussing how Bastila claimed he was strong in the Force. Although other Jedi Masters were inclined to believe he should be trained as a Jedi, Vrook Lamar said they needed indisputable proof of his connection to the Force, as adults were rarely trained. Revan became confused when Lamar said that if he was trained the Dark Lord could return, and because they did not wish to reveal his identity they decided to discuss that matter in private.[3]
As the Council deliberated, Revan and Bastila shared a vision of Revan and Malak, as Jedi, visiting the Dantooine ruins where they first found the Star Map. They informed the Council of the vision, and the Council claimed that the ruins had been known to them for a long time but that they believed it was only a burial mound. Revan was told that he and Bastila had a Force bond, and that the Council believed that they could defeat Malak if they worked together. The Jedi Masters also decided to send them to the ruins in their vision, hoping that they could find some clue as to why Revan and Malak had turned to the dark side.[3]
Before they were sent, Revan spent weeks training in the ways of the Force, not knowing that it was his second time doing so. Many remarked that his progress was amazing, and Zhar Lestin, who was his instructor, said that he had never seen anyone master their initial training so quickly. However, before he could end his apprenticeship and become a Jedi Padawan, he first had to complete three tasks. First, they tested his knowledge of the Jedi Code, a test that he passed; second, he successfully built his own blue-bladed lightsaber, and despite the color chose to become a Jedi Consular; third, he would have to cleanse a meditation grove of a dark taint that had overcome it.[3]
While he was on his way to investigate the taint at the meditation grove, Revan found himself in the middle of a number of disputes. The first person he met was settler named Jon, who was demanding that the Jedi Council help him gain justice for his daughter Ilsa, who had been murdered by Mandalorians on dantooine. Although Revan did not initially refuse Jon, he did not want to commit violence so he continued on his set task. However, Revan ended up killing several Mandalorians in combat to protect himself, as they ambushed him around the Enclave. Eventually, Revan found the Mandalorian leader, Sherruk, and killed him after being attacked. Jon thanked him for his effort, satisfied that the threat had been dealt with.[3]
Continuing in his task towards the grove, Revan met a Twi’lek Jedi named Bolook who was investigating the murder of a colonist named Calder Nettic. Bolook invited Revan to assist him in questioning the two suspects, Handon Guld and Rickard Lusoff, and in solving the case as a means of additional training. Through Revan’s questioning and consultation with an information droid, Revan was able to determine that Nettic had been having an affair with Guld’s wife, so Guld murdered Handon who was in turn shot and wounded by Lusoff. Lusoff himself had his own plans to kill Nettic following an argument over a failed business deal. Both suspects were arrested and jailed by Bolook.[3]
The last dispute Revan involved himself in was a situation with the Matale family. The family had a long-running feud with the Sandral family who lived nearby, and even with assistance from the Jedi Council they could not reach a compromise to settle their disputes. Revan was told that Shen Matale had been kidnapped by Nurik Sandral, as Sandral believed his son Casus had been killed by the Matales. Rahasia Sandral told Revan about the kidnapping when he arrived at the Sandral estate, and Revan was able to break Shen out and allow him to escape with Rahasia, both of whom were in love with one another. However, both of them were ambushed by their parents outside of the estate, although Revan was able to convince the fathers to allow their children to live their own lives, and they both agreed to purchase a new house for their children.[3]
Finally, after hours of settling unrelated disputes, Revan arrived at the tainted grove and found the source of the dark taint. It was a Cathar Dark Jedi named Juhani. After Revan dueled and defeated her, she explained that she had been a Jedi Padawan and that she believed she had killed her master in a fit of rage, but Revan told her that her master was still alive and convinced her to return to the Jedi Enclave and seek forgiveness from the Jedi Council. When Revan returned to the Enclave, the Jedi Council was pleased with his success and his decision to redeem Juhani. He had passed his final test, and therefore became a Jedi Padawan.[3]
With his task completed, the Jedi Council sent Revan and Bastila to investigate the ruins visited by Revan and Malak years prior. Once inside, they were confronted by a droid speaking an unknown language, although it changed the language it spoke to a dialect of the Selkath language, which Revan could understand, and said that it had been programmed to serve the “builders” if they sought the knowledge of the Star Forge. When asked whether it knew of Revan and Malak, the droid replied that they were neither bulders nor slaves, but that they had proven themselves worthy. The droid then told Revan and Bastila that they had to do the same. After passing the tests, they gained access to the room which contained the Star Map, although they found out that they would have to travel to Kashyyyk, Manaan, Tatooine and Korriban to find the rest of the map and locate the Star Forge.[3]
Revan and Bastila reported their findings to the Jedi Council, and the Jedi Masters agreed that the Star Forge had to be found. The Council still wanted Bastila to continue drawing out Revan’s memories, and they were also curious to see if Revan could complete the mission without falling to the dark side and reclaiming his former title of Dark Lord of the Sith. Juhani requested that she join Revan’s party in search of the Star Forge, and after being told of the plan Canderous, Mission and Zaalbar all agreed to continue on as well. Carth expressed confusion over the Council’s choise of sending Revan on an assignment that could have been the deciding point of a war, though he agreed to go with them anyway and they set an initial course towards Kashyyyk.[3]
[edit] Second quest
After arriving on Kashyyyk, Revan traveled with Zaalbar to the Wookiee capital Rwookrrorro where Zaalbar discovered that his brother Chuundar was the Wookiee chieftain and was being aided by members of the Czerka Corporation. Chuundar allowed Revan access to the Shadowlands, a Wookiee proving ground on the forest floor where Revan believed he would find the Star Map, so long as he killed a rogue Wookiee named Freyyr. Because Zaalbar was forced to stay in the village, as he had been made an outcast years earlier, Revan enlisted the aid of Carth and Canderous when he ventured into the Shadowlands. Inside, they encountered Jolee Bindo, a former Jedi Knight living there in hermitage. Jolee agreed to help Revan find the Star Map, which eventually he did. However, he encountered the security protocols that he had placed there years prior, although he was able to bypass them and successfully read the map.[3]
Having left the Star Map, Revan located the rogue Wookiee Freyyr, whom he learned was Zaalbar and Chuundar’s father. Freyyr had been cast out of the village years earlier for standing up against what he believed was a treasonous act when Chuundar began to work with Czerka slavers. Therefore, Freyyr and Revan devised a plan to remove Czerka from the planet, though he would first have to find Bacca's Ceremonial Blade. Wookiee tradition dictated that whoever held the blade would become chieftain. Revan found the blade in the stomach of a slain creature and he brought it back to Freyyr who climbed back to the villages to gain support for a rebellion. As Revan returned to the lift that had originally brought them to the surface, the lift operator attacked him when he learned that Revan did not follow Chuundar’s orders. Not wishing to be killed, Revan defended himself against the Wookiee and ended up killing him.[3]
When he returned to Rwookrrorro, Revan was confronted by a Wookiee who led him to Chuundar’s throne room where Freyyr was already present, causing the entire Wookiee population to become split on who should rule. Although Freyyr had the blade of Bacca, Chuundar had the hilt of the broken sword. Zaalbar also became torn between his father and brother, although Revan convinced him to side with his father by arguing that Chuundar had betrayed the Wookiee people by joining the slavers. When Zaalbar agreed, a fight broke out in the throne room, resulting in the deaths of Chuundar and the Czerka guards. Freyyr became chieftain once again, though he gave Zaalbar Bacca’s blade to symbolize that he would be chieftain once he returned from the quest to find the Star Forge.[3]
Despite having killed Chuundar, the rebellion was not over. Czerka had started to attack the Wookiees in revolt of their actions, though the Wookiees rebelled against the slavers. After hours of fighting, Czerka made the decision to pull off of Kashyyyk, coming to the conclusion that they were no longer safe there. With the rebellion over, Revan and the others, along with Jolee who agreed to travel with them, returned to the Ebon Hawk and set a course to find the Star Map on Manaan.[3]
