[edit] Current activities

  • See my blog for FE updates. I am currently busy with RL activities and so will not be able to reply to things with my usual punctuality. Yes, I still plan on handling the short story awards and the active FWNs, but it will take longer.

[edit] About the author

" Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God"
—Matthew 5:7-9

Atarumaster88 is the author of the Force Exile Series on the Star Wars Fanon wiki. An avowed Star Wars fan from his youth, Atarumaster88 first started his wiki career on Wookieepedia in the summer of 2006 and became an administrator and an established writer there. However, he also began writing the first draft of what is now the Force Exile Series during that time. Thankfully, that's deleted and purged from the archives now, except for Ataru's copy. Ataru is 18<x<100 years old. A significant detail about Ataru is his Christian faith and he seeks to have that displayed in his writing and actions even online. However, despite his belief in the inherent superiority and voracity of his faith, he will respect the beliefs of others, as he seeks to get along with all members of the SWF community. Ataru currently resides on Earth and lives with people.

And for kicks and giggles: Mary Sues and why we hate them.

[edit] Name

  • My name: You can call me Ataru or even AM88.
  • In case you see links to this userpage piped through "Will Enser" or some derivative thereof, that is not my real name. That's a pseudonym I invented for the benefit of others dissatisfied with "Ataru". Do not make a Will Enser article—it's just a pun off the phrase "will answer." The name's Ataru. Just Ataru.

[edit] Star Wars Fanon and reviewing policy

"You seek out the pedestals I sit upon and then saw their legs off while giggling with glee as I come crashing down towards the sharp, jagged rocks that you've conveniently placed below me."
—Anonymous SWF user on Ataru's reviewing habits.[src]

Atarumaster88's first and primary wiki is and will remain Wookieepedia and he is not here very often. That said, Atarumaster88 is willing to read and review other narratives, providing input, opinion, grammar nitpicking, and apostrophe corrections as needed. He's not big into reading articles, and much prefers fanfic. Please do not ask him to read junk, though, as you're wasting his time. Also, if you are not good with taking criticism—lots of it—it's probably not a good idea to ask him to review your work. He tries to stay civil with his reviews and provide constructive criticism, but has been known to come across about as sensitive as a crashing Star Destroyer.

I have been known to beta-read stuff, but my plate stays full enough that I'm not likely to beta-read something unless I owe you big time, or I actually like your work. I won't beta something that doesn't interest me. Beta-reading is my most extensive and therefore most-time consuming level of review, so I reserve that for select few works. I'm currently betaing the following fics:

My credits include:

Oh, and I'm also an Archivist, which means if you submit your fanwork to be a featured work, there's a good chance I might review it. If it's good, it'll get my vote. If it's not, I'll shred it into tiny pieces and hand it back to you on a plate. Also, if you want me to be really annoyed when I read your work, make sure that you hand me a .PDF and expect me to mark it up. That's a guaranteed way to make me want to reduce your work to bantha fodder, no matter how good it is.

[edit] Force Exile

Force Exile is a series of novels written set in the Star Wars universe, starting circa 19 BBY with Force Exile I: Fugitive. So far, two sequels have been written in the form of Force Exile II: Smuggler and Force Exile III: Liberator. Continuation of the stories told in this trilogy occurs in the anthology Yanibar Tales and Atarumaster88 has also started on a fourth novel, Force Exile IV: Guardian and a reference guide, The Essential Guide to Force Exile. Another supplementary work, the Yanibar Guard Sourcebook, is also in progress, and serves to provide more information about an organization central to much of the later Force Exile works: the Yanibar Guard. The cover art for all Force Exile works is courtesy of the inimitably talented Solus. See Atarumaster88's blog for updates and silly puns.

For any readers, feedback on any Force Exile work is greatly appreciated. Just leave me a comment on this user talk page or on one of the talk pages for the books, preferably on the main talk page rather than the one for each segment. It'd be really sweet if Force Exile was canonized, but that'll happen about the time George Lucas gives the author Leland Chee's job. We can always hope, right?

NOTE TO FELLOW AUTHORS: If you would like to cameo a person, place, or thing that I invented for Force Exile in your work, please let me know and provide as many details as possible. If you're looking to have something more than a cameo, the answer is almost certainly no. I'm sorry, but I'm not the collaborative type. If you are interested in contributing to the Force Exile saga, check out the What's the backstory? contest, where you can submit entries that provide backstory for existing Force Exile characters.

[edit] Ataru's writing conventions

These are posted here as reference for what the author uses in his writing. He does not necessarily judge other works he reads by their adherence to these guidelines; he operates under the stipulation that he is the only one who uses these and does not expect others to follow all of them. That said, some of these guidelines are more universal to good writing in general.

  1. Nothing is ever perfectly written, but strive for excellence.
  2. Never write a Mary Sue. Ever.
  3. Uphold the 7 pillars of Details, Dialogue, Development, Description, Decency, Characters, and Believability in all writing.
  4. Seek to tell a good story, not a social/political commentary.
  5. Let your work flow with existing official canon, not disrupt, rewrite, or violate it.
  6. Overt sexuality, extreme violence, foul profanity, and dark hedonism have no place in my work.
  7. Evil will never be ultimately rewarded.
  8. Never write anything for the sake of popularity or awards. Write what you want because you want to.
  9. All full-length novels should start on an Imperial or Republic ship, per the example of George Lucas and Timothy Zahn.
  10. Proof-read everything. After that, proof-read it again and have someone else read it if you can manage that.
  11. A good Star Wars tale has these elements: action, romance, suspense, comedy, symbolism, and thematic elements, in addition to being a page-turner.
  12. A good Star Wars author never gives himself more than a dozen general rules.
