Truya Djo was the daughter of Saria Djo, the leader of the Fire Island clan on Dathomir. Like her mother and sisters, she was strong in the Force - strong enough, and lucky enough, to survive several attacks from the Nightsisters from 4 to 8 ABY. Saria's other daughters died during these attacks, and Truya was the only female of Saria's line to survive.

In 9 ABY, Truya gave birth to a son, Welk. Two years later, she was wounded in combat and sustained a serious abdominal wound. She survived, but was unable to bear more children, leaving her without any daughters. To make matters worse, Welk was kidnapped by Nightsister Tamith Kai at the age of twelve, and the expedition to find and retrieve him was unsuccessful.

Welk returned to his family on Dathomir in 31 ABY, cleansed of the Dark Side. He brought his five-year-old daughter, Desa, whose mother was killed during the Stellar Imperial War. Truya let him live with her and Saria, protected from enslavement though with few rights of his own, and they helped bring up his daughter.
