- "In nature, there is one thing the freelance detective hates and fears more than anything. This creature is called the Imperial investigator and Synth Lydon is the worst of all the brood."
- —Remy Diabet
Synth Lydon was a renowned investigator - first for the Empire and later as a free agent - from the destruction of Alderaan to his death after the Yuuzhan Vong War. His incredibly high intelligence, powerful observation skills, and dedication to justice served him well throughout his career, but he struggled in his relationships with others around him.

[edit] Biography
[edit] Duro
Synth Lydon was born on Duro while his father was on extended assignment for his work. The Lydon family moved to Imperial Center when Synth was only three. When Synth was fourteen, Imperial forces came to the Lydon apartment to arrest Synth's abusive father for laundering money from the Empire. The elder Lydon resisted the stormtroopers and was killed; Synth's mother was wounded. She died in the med-center.
Synth returned to Duro to attend academy there and train as an investigator like the one who had finally stopped his father. There he shared a room with Jav Yonx, and formed a friendship that would continue into their adult careers. They both entered the same police department, and were assigned to one another as partners. Their partnership was ended when Jav left the force over a murder suspect and mutual friend he believed to be innocent. Synth was recruited into the role of Imperial investigator in order to find and capture his rogue ex-partner.
[edit] Imperial Service
- "You must be the legendary Synth Lydon. Shall I bow, my liege?"
"I won’t demand it, but feel free." - —Zjionne Darkhorse and Synth Lydon
Synth served with distinction as an Imperial investigator. He worked almost constantly on multiple cases at once, in order to occupy his brilliant mind. He cultivated a reputation as arrogant, impatient, and insubordinate, but his eccentricities were tolerated for his excellent results. Though a loyal Imperial, he believed more strongly in the higher concept of justice, which was sometimes at odds with the goals of his superiors. He even aided an escaped prisoner whose incarceration was partially the Empire's doing, because Synth believed the man to be innocent.
Through his job, Synth came repeatedly into conflict with Jav Yonx and his new partner Remy Diabet as they worked several cases from opposing angles. His relationship with Jav devolved still further, and Synth held even more contempt for Remy. Six years after the Battle of Endor, both he and they were hired to retrieve The Eye of the Force for their respective employer. Synth had an opportunity to bring it to the Empire, but instead allowed Remy and Jav to take it for Luke Skywalker. It was the last case he would investigate for the Empire, as he went freelance immediately afterward.
[edit] Private Investigator
- "A little touchy about your employer’s failings when it comes to just actions. Don’t worry, Synth. That conscience you still carry around will go away some day."
- —Nemis Magedd
Frustrated with the Empire's idealogy, Synth became a detective for hire. He quickly acquired high-profile work based on his reputation as an Imperial investigator. He continued to have run-ins with Jav and Remy, but the rivalry was slightly less antagonistic. During his freelance stint, Synth became involved with another Imperial-turned-P.I. Zjionne Darkhorse. They married and she gave birth to a son Djerro. When Djerro was only a toddler, Zjionne was murdered by a gold-armed assassin who escaped before Synth could stop him.
His wife's death sent Synth on a two-year quest for revenge. He followed every lead he could, and met with nothing but dead ends. He went through every case Zjionne ever investigated in search of suspects, closing the open ones as he went. Finally he came upon the homicide of a scientist on Drongar. The victim had been working for InfiniTech Biomedical on a revival of an abandoned Imperial experiment codenamed Project Target. Synth went to the jungle facility where the project had originally been undertaken, and found contact information for the assassin that had been hired to kill his wife. He lured the man to a meeting and killed him, but not before the dying cyborg hinted that there was something larger than InfiniTech at work in Zjionne's death. This haunted Synth for years as he wandered the galaxy doing detective work, all the while keeping tabs on and anonymously supporting his son.
[edit] Final Case
- "Djerro, I have to admit you really do annoy me."
"I try my best."
"That's why I knew it was okay to admit it."
"See this? I'm glad we can have these heart-to-heart talks."" - —Synth and Djerro Lydon
Synth was reconciled with his son years later, while Djerro was attending the Duro Law Enforcement Training Academy. Synth was hired to look into the serial killings of allies of the Sonar Man - a case that Remy Diabet and Jav Yonx were also investigating. Djerro assisted Synth, and together they learned that the murders were the work of The Network - the same organization responsible for the revival of Project Target and Zjionne Lydon's death. Synth and Djerro were traveling on Synth's ship The Blind Wraith when they discovered that a Network assassin had snuck on board. This assassin was the successful result of the new Project Target - a clone of Nemis Magedd without the original's insanity but retaining his superhuman talent. The silent clone had already killed the leader of InfiniTech, and was programmed to kill both Lydons. Synth jettisoned him from the docking bay, but not before the assassin shot him in the heart. The investigator died in his son's arms.
