The Stellar Imperial War was the three-year conflict between Empress Shira's Stellar Imperium and the New Republic.

[edit] The Takeover of Berival

The event that is considered to be the beginning of the war was when the planet Berival fell. It was nominally part of the New Republic, though so far in the Outer Rim that it had little contact with the Core Worlds. In early 26 ABY, though, Empress Shira, who had rulership over two star systems just slightly further out, took the entire system by force, threatening to destroy the capital if they did not agree to be ruled by the Stellar Imperium. When the New Republic heard about this, they began efforts to find Shira and bring her in for a diplomatic discussion, but she disappeared and could not be reached.

[edit] The Death of Darth Trefitz

Three months later, Luke Skywalker was able to find the location of the Empress' primary ship, and he also sensed the presence of Sith, or at least Dark Jedi, on board. This was brought to public attention, and shortly thereafter, Darth Trefitz was killed and his body put on public display. Shira claimed that she did not know that this advisor was a Dark Jedi, and she was thankful to the other Force-sensitive but largely untrained people in her service that were able to destroy him for her. Although some were suspicious of her story, for the most part, the idea of Sith controlling the Stellar Imperium was put to rest for a time.

[edit] The Escape of the Dantooine Virus

In late 27 ABY, a few planets began to mysteriously "disappear" - no transmissions, except those made by droids, were received or sent. The Jedi investigated this matter, and Alema Rar made the first report back regarding the mysterious phenomemon in the Doldur Asteroid Belt. All living things were dying quickly; the culprit turned out to be the Dantooine Virus, named for the first major planet that it struck. The Stellar Imperial fleet actually helped the New Republic and the remainder of the galaxy, although for its own motives; it quarantined affected planets and systems and limited the damage from its own accidental release of the biological warfare agent.

[edit] The Mission to Dantooine

Although the mission was not initially a major event in the war, it did have some effects that led to the Battle of Angwel just over a year later and caused the loss of several of Shira's officers. In early 28 ABY, Luke Skywalker sent four Jedi from Yavin IV to investigate the sudden loss of communication from Dantooine. These Jedi Knights were:

Their ship was attacked en route by a small portion of the Stellar Imperial fleet, which had been lying in wait near the Marstill system. The ship was tracked to the G0-CV system, and the Stellar Imperium tried several times to find and destroy the Jedi Knights. Tiera and Vurif were dead before ever reaching G0-CVII, but Jacen and Anakin survived. General Baclaw, Lieutenant Odact, and a squadron of Force-trained troopers, as well as a squadron of elite troopers not sensitive to the Force, were killed while trying to hunt the two Jedi.

[edit] The Release of the Cyalax Virus

Empress Shira had planted one of her own people, Darth Inferna, into the Republic Senate, as the Senator of the Angwel system. When the Cyalax Virus was ready, Shira used Inferna to spread the disease among the Jedi. Unlike the Dantooine virus, the Cyalax virus did not kill cellular mitochondria - only midichlorians, and only down to a threshhold that did not make life impossible. It only stripped sufferers of the Force for a period of fifteen to twenty-five months while their bodies healed. Inferna, who was inoculated against the virus, used her two-year-old daughter Desa as a vector, first infecting Princess Leia, and then allowing the disease to spread. While a few Jedi in remote locations did not fall ill, most of the Jedi Order was temporarily left without their powers, making it far easier for the Sith to continue their work unobstructed.

[edit] Moving the Stellar Imperial Headquarters

In early 29 ABY, Shira was forced to move her base from Cyalax to a mobile location on board a Star Destroyer. Jedi Knight Jaina Solo infiltrated the Cyalax complex and almost killed Shira, before becoming outnumbered by other Sith and needing to flee. Now that her location was known, though, Shira moved her personnel and equipment to a ship.

[edit] The Death of Darth Inferna and the Disappearance of Welk

Shira sent Inferna and Lord Welk to find and kill Jaina. They returned to the location where Jacen and Anakin were thought to have died, and found that the young Jedi Knights were still alive. Inferna held them both on her ship and tortured them for over a week, but when she tried to kill Anakin, Jacen killed her to defend him. Welk then ran, and unable to face Shira with his utter failure to kill any of the Solos, went to the Unknown Regions with baby Desa. This left Shira as the only significantly Force-trained person in the Stellar Imperium.

[edit] The Battle of Angwel

The Battle of Angwel was the final (and only major) battle of the Stellar Imperial War. Shira's fleet was cornered in the system by the combined fleets of the New Republic and Hapes Consortium. The Stellar Imperials were easily overrun, and two Jedi, Jaina and Zekk of Ennth, captured Shira and attempted to force a surrender. Shira refused to cooperate and dueled them, and kept on fighting even after injury. Jaina and Zekk ended up killing her, but by this time, most of her ships were in New Republic control.

[edit] The Berival-Bastion Treaty

The Berival-Bastion treaty was signed on Bastion a week after the Battle of Angwel. Admiral Hocke of the Stellar Imperium agreed to disband the Stellar Imperium. 75% of the Stellar Imperial fleet went to the New Republic, 15% to the Hapes Consortium, and 10% to the Imperial Remnant. All planets taken over by the Stellar Imperium had the choice of whether to join the New Republic or be part of the Imperial Remnant. The Remnant had mostly stayed neutral in the war, and many within the Stellar Imperium resisted rule by the New Republic, but were willing to join the Remnant, which had also formed a peace agreement with the New Republic years earlier. After the Berival-Bastion treaty was formed and signed, by Cal Omas (Republic), Admiral Hocke (Imperium), and Gilad Pellaeon (Remnant), the Stellar Imperial War was officially over.
