Question Edit

Only the nine members of the Council of Seers will vote for featured articles. If the community wishes to vote for articles, they may do so on the good articles nominations page. In order to become a featured article, the article must receive at least five out of nine votes from the Council of Seers.
—Description of featured articles[src]

Is that only applying to objections or is that voting as a whole? Because users have been voting for featured articles for a while. Or do user votes not count?--Josh BenderTalk 21:10, November 25, 2009 (UTC)

Word count restriction Edit

I was thinking that we put a word cap on Featured article front page entries. I have been seeing several articles with mammoth introductions of a thousand words or more and that is pretty long for an FA sample. It also stretches the front page and makes more blank space than is intended. I am not saying we limit intros to 200 words, I am only saying that we need to limit the excerpt to a manageable limit. Kind of like an FW entry. This is probably "instruction creep" but I thought I'd throw it out there.-I'm the Chosen One 20:03, August 11, 2011 (UTC)

  • So the introduction in the actual article isn't changed, but only so much goes on the main page? Savage1138 20:17, August 11, 2011 (UTC)

Disagreed. If they're long, they're long. Generally they're long because the article is long. If an article has an introduction that's too big in proportion to the rest of the article, then that's something reviewers should point out before voting on the nomination. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 20:33, August 11, 2011 (UTC)

  • Per Brandy. Intros are, by and large, proportionate to the length of the overall article. Reviewers should also point it out when an article that is up for FAN has too small an intro as well. GoodwoodDebating Society12,018 Edits 20:56, August 11, 2011 (UTC)
    • Yes Savage, only limiting the entry on the front page, not the actual intro in the article. Yeah, but the reviewer has an obligation when the intro is short, not when it is too long. An intro that is too long is subjective and personal preference. I was merely saying that we could do something similar to the FWN thing that has an excerpt on the front page.-I'm the Chosen One 05:10, August 12, 2011 (UTC)
      • No it's not a personal preference. The featured article requirements say this: "To be well written, comprehensive and detailed, the article must be of substantial length, long enough to provide sufficient information, depth and analysis of the subject without including unnecessary information." An overly long introduction in proportion to the body of the article is "unnecessary information." - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 06:07, August 12, 2011 (UTC)
        • Whatever, I was only mentioning an excerpt for the Main page to maintain formatting, I was not actually insinuating a "word ceiling" for the actual article. I really don't feel like discussing the Introduction procedures for the actual article.-I'm the Chosen One 06:24, August 12, 2011 (UTC)
          • I'd oppose it either way. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 07:15, August 12, 2011 (UTC)
          • In lieu of a restriction, how about instead the intro just ...'s off after it hits a certain limit. That way, there's no restriction and no tables are broken.--Josh Benderщ(゚Д゚щ) 07:26, August 12, 2011 (UTC)

Good to know.-I'm the Chosen One 07:23, August 12, 2011 (UTC)

Good Article first? Edit

Both SWF:FAR and SWF:FA say, "In order to become a featured article, an article must first be voted as a Star Wars Fanon good article." Is this simply out-of-date, or is it something we should be doing and have not been doing? Savage1138 16:41, November 14, 2011 (UTC)

  • I can't find the CT, but that rule was abolished more than two years ago. Also, it is fairly obvious based on how we have been operating that this rule is gone.-I'm the Chosen One 16:07, November 15, 2011 (UTC)
    • Yeah, I figured. Savage1138 16:25, November 15, 2011 (UTC)

I don't know if I have understood correctly, however I've read that it's necessary an image for the infobox of a featured article. Have I understood correctly? ADMIRAL MIKE501 Yes, Sir! 15:25, January 13, 2014 (UTC)

  • No. If no image is available, you don't need an image. - Brandon Rhea@fandom(talk) 15:42, January 13, 2014 (UTC)
