Star Wars Fanon:What Star Wars Fanon is not

The Star Wars wiki of fan invention.

Shortcut:
SWF:NOT

The Star Wars Fanon Wiki is a wiki for creating, documenting, and showcasing fanon works. However, users need to understand what Star Wars Fanon is not, as defined on this page.

Contents

[edit] Star Wars Fanon is not

[edit] Uncyclopedia

The Star Wars Fanon Wiki is a place to document professional looking encyclopedic pages. Articles that are written unprofessionally and do not conform to a standard of excellence must be rewritten. If they are not, they will be subject to deletion.

[edit] Wookieepedia

Articles on canon events and canon characters should have limited canon material and facts, as the focus of the article should be kept on the fanon aspects of the topic. Users should avoid creating multiple articles on canon characters or events, though if the creation of such an article is needed then it is expected that a link will be included in the “See also” section to the canon article on Wookieepedia. That way, it is made clear in the article that the character is canon, although the article is not.

[edit] Darthipedia

Darthipedia is the Star Wars Humor Wiki and is dedicated to making joking and satirical content based on the Star Wars universe. For this reason, and in an attempt to become a more serious Wiki, joke articles are not allowed on Star Wars Fanon and must be written at Darthipedia. Joke articles that were not approved through community consensus in the fall of 2008 will be put up for a deletion discussion if found, or transferred to Darthipedia if the author so wishes.

[edit] For role playing

Star Wars Fanon, although not documenting facts from the real-world or professional fiction, is meant to be an encyclopedia. Therefore, the Wiki is meant only to document information about characters, organizations, weapons, or anything else related to Star Wars fanon information in an encyclopedic fashion. There is no role-playing on Star Wars Fanon, so any efforts to role-play will be stopped and sent to TheStarWarsRP.Com, which is an official partner website, or other respectable role-playing establishments.

Because this is not a role-play, articles about characters, or anything else for that matter, should not be thought of as a role-playing profile. In a role-playing profile, role-players have a tendency to write from the point of view of the characters or their own personal point of view, which means that they will likely only write about the so-called “good” aspects of the character and all of his or her strengths. That is not what an encyclopedic article is about. Role-players will also likely write in what we call “prosetry”, meaning a colorful prose that is best suited for narrative works of fiction. Articles on this Wiki are meant to be written from a neutral perspective without any point of view rather than in the format of a role-playing profile.

[edit] MySpace/Facebook

Star Wars Fanon is not a place to chat with friends online. Because of that, do not...

  1. ...spend excessive time editing your user page if it’s simply going to become a blog. There are other websites for that, but Star Wars Fanon is not one of them.
  2. ...post the same thing on several talk pages that are not of importance to the Wiki, such as “vote for this article” or “hey, how are you today?” Posting such comments is essentially posting spam which is a violation of Star Wars Fanon policy.
  3. ...create clans or social groups. Please see the Clan policy for more information.
  4. ...post irrelevant information in forums or talk pages that can start conflicts.

If your main goal is to socialize and chat with friends, it is suggested that you created a MySpace or a Facebook, or that you install and use AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Live Messenger or Yahoo! Messenger. However, please be aware that becoming friends with people on Star Wars Fanon is not discouraged. It is simply asked that your chatting be taken somewhere else.

[edit] A government

There is no government, house or council of any sort that runs Star Wars Fanon or decides what the policies of the Wiki are going to be. Running the Wiki and deciding what its policies are going to be is done through community consensus. A government was tried originally, though it did not work out as some had hoped. Therefore, there will never again be another form of government on Star Wars Fanon other than, quite literally, the people themselves.

[edit] Yours

All articles posted on Star Wars Fanon are published under the GFDL license, which verifies that the content is under fair use and attributed to the author, or it is published under the Creative Commons license, which releases original content into the public domain, thereby making it subject to redistribution and editing if not for profit. You cannot use any form of legal justification for forbidding others to edit your articles because, quite simply, there is no legal justification. What you can do is request that users do not edit your articles because they are undergoing a major edit or you think it is complete enough that it should be preserved as is. Members who are having issues with other members regarding editing articles are encouraged to speak to the Administration.

Users of Star Wars Fanon are asked to respect the original view of any given user’s Star Wars Fanon universe. This is done so by refraining from adding our own views into another person’s article, or by using your ideas in one of our articles without your permission. However, anyone can edit any article under the guidelines of the Editing Policy.
