Star Wars Fanon:Archival policy

The Star Wars wiki of fan invention.

The Star Wars Fanon archival policy is a policy on Star Wars Fanon stating that, rather than deleting messages from talk pages, whether they be article talk pages, forum talk pages or user talk pages, users must create archives if they wish to remove messages on their talk page for historical purposes. On Wikia Wikis, archival is important for historical purpose as it can serve as a record of past discussions or because it allows administrators to determine how best to handle consequences of policy infractions. For example, if a user breaks a policy, an administrator would need to know whether or not the user has been previously warned for such an infraction, and if it was done before the removal of the messages then the archive would serve to let the administrator view the past warning. If the message was simply removed from the page and not archived, then the administrator would not be able to hand out the appropriate punishment, lest they waste their time in combing through page histories.

The core message of this policy is simple: rather than deleting messages from talk pages, if a user wishes to remove messages then they must create an archive and place said messages in the archive. Should a user be caught removing messages without archiving them, administrators will revert the edits made to the talk page, thereby adding the messages back in. Bans will not be given for continued infractions, as administrators can easily revert the removal of talk page messages.

In the event that the problem does persist and becomes an issue between administrators and the user, then while there are no set bans strictly for this policy the administrator in question can, if they so choose, enforce the three revert rule or the disruption policy. However, the administrator is not required to enforce these policies, and is encouraged to do so only if an extreme situation calls for it. Administrators should typically assume good faith before enforcing the aforementioned policies, and it should only be used as a final resort.
