The novel also ends similarly to The Empire Strikes Back, where it's not so much an ending as it is a pathway to the next step of the journey.

Star Wars: Episode II - The Princess of Ondos is an upcoming Alternative Star Wars Saga novel by Brandon Rhea. It is a sequel to the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode I - The Chosen One, currently being written by Rhea, and continues many of the storylines of that novel.

Plot overview[]

Star Wars: Episode II - The Princess of Ondos begins in the weeks following the events of The Chosen One. Michael Lars has already learned about his destiny as the Chosen One by the Ophuchi Clan and has heard stories about the worlds beyond Tatooine, so he moves off of Tatooine and enters the larger galaxy. He finds himself on Coruscant, where the seeds of The Chosen One begin to grow into a brewing galactic war, political intrigue and conspiracy, and the looming threat of the Mandalorian Clans, long-believed to no longer be a threat.

The story continues the focus of Michael’s journey towards his destiny, and in doing so it also begins to explore the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic. Characters such as Grand Master Mace Windy, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, and Jedi academy Head Master Yoda are introduced. The characters of the novel become involved in a conspiracy that threatens to destroy the Republic and plunge the galaxy into a thousand years of darkness.

Whereas The Chosen One partially mirrors Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, The Princess of Ondos is meant to reflect the tone and feel of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. There are some similar elements, such as Michael learning more about the Jedi through his interactions with Yoda just as Luke Skywalker did, though Michael learns from other characters as well.

The ending of the novel is meant to lead directly into Star Wars: Episode III - Destiny of the Jedi. This is similar to how the ending of The Empire Strikes Back was designed to require a sequel, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, in order to resolve its storylines.

Development[]

The novel was first announced in public as Star Wars: Episode II - The Call of Destiny on July 10, 2011 on the Star Wars Fanon wiki. The announcement came as part of a blog post by Brandon Rhea introducing a number of characters, themes, and concepts from the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode I - The Chosen One.[1]

On September 4, 2012, Rhea announced that the title of the novel had been changed to Star Wars: Episode II - The Princess of Ondos and that the search for Sabé Arcadia, the Princess of the planet Ondos, would be part of the story. This story element was inspired by Adventures of the Starkiller, Episode I: The Star Wars, the second draft of what ultimately became Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.[2]
