The Stalwart Defender was a Centurion-class battlecruiser in service with the Galactic Republic in the years during the Mandalorian Wars and Jedi Civil War. Commanded by Rear Admiral Kedlis Hetton, who would later lead his own task force using the vessel as his flagship, its career began as a border patrol ship on the fringes of the Outer Rim of the galaxy. In the wake of the outbreak of the latter conflict, the Stalwart Defender, along with its escorting Hammerhead-class cruisers Endar Spire, Delta Dagger, and Horseshoe, formed the nucleus of an assault force that landed the first counterblow against the invading forces of Darth Revan and Darth Malak's Sith Empire.

The warship went on to participate in the Iridonia-Lannik Campaign, a counteroffensive through Sith-occupied space that included actions at Rodia, Mon Gazza and Lannik itself. As part of the Second Fleet under Vice Admiral Forn Dodonna, Stalwart Defender and her escorting ships continued to hold the line against the Sith, with the Endar Spire being replaced by Kickboxer when the former vessel was assigned to Padawan Bastila Shan. In 3,956 BBY, after serving as the head of a mobile reserve force and undergoing reprovisioning atKuat, the vessel and her escorts were reassigned to protect Eriadu from a suspected Sith attack in that direction, serving in that capacity until the war's end later that year.

Stalwart Defender remained in Republic service for some time after the Jedi Civil War, leading an expedition to Korriban in 3,954 BBY aimed at ridding the planet of remaining Sith resistance. During the Dark Wars the vessel served as a command ship for Republic operations aimed at restoring planets that had been ravaged by the Sith, and the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders before them. In 3,944 BBY, after having participated in the retaking of the Gordian Reach from a collective of G0-T0 infrastructure planning systems, the old warship was finally beginning to show her age. After an extensive refit at the Corellian Engineering Corporation shipyards that saw the removal of her weapons systems' power sources, Stalwart Defender was decommissioned and placed in permanent orbit of Anaxes, to serve as a museum ship.
