This planet was once like a beautiful painting, now look at it, this is what humans are capable of Miranda.
—Liam Boorman, describing his planet

Sol Tres was the third planet in the Sol system. Tres, as it was called, was a former hospitable world, now only a dead rock. The one known only to most as the Gnarly Old Man, but also as Liam Boorman was said to have come from the planet, long before its destruction. Liam observed the planet years later with his friend Miranda Drim'n only to be saddened to what happened to it.

History[]

Human Wars[]

Tres was once a hospitable world. In the centuries before Liam Boorman's birth, the world was constantly at war with one another. Finally, the people of Tres, came to peace. Being at peace, the Tresians began looking to the stars. They started work on a space program. The space program was completed when Liam was around thirty. He volunteered for the Grand Tour of the Stars.

Downfall[]

During his trip, the Tresians apparently returned to war. Upon his return, he found most of the world in ruin, while the survivors were still at war. The Gnarly Old Man fled from the planet, and made his way to the nearest planet. On a return trip with Miranda, they found the planet completely destroyed.

Legacy[]

Liam Boorman was the only known inhabitant to have lived on Sol Tres. His actions during the Volta Wars, including the building of the Red Barchetta, helped the Republic push back and ultimately defeat the Volta. For most historians, Sol Tres is nothing but an enigma. How a world could destroy itself is something that has never happened in known Galaxy.

Behind the scenes[]

Sol Tres was based off of the real-world planet Earth, and although it was placed in the Unknown Regions the author has maintained that the planet is not Earth. The planet was created with humorous intent by Nightmare975 to explain why Liam Boorman would only use so-called archaic weapons such as slugthrowers. When it was originally created, the name of the planet was "Arth", though when the author began to flesh out the information about the planet he decided to change it to something he felt was less "Earth-like". "Sol" was derived from Sol, the nickname given to Earth’s sun, and "Tres" came from the fact that Earth is the third planet from the sun.
