Described alternately as 'seeing shades' or 'veils of light,' users who master it are able to sense the life-essence of other beings, allowing them to perceive their feelings more readily and at greater distances, as well as to affect their minds with greater ease.
Vodo-Siosk Baas describes Sense Aura[src]

The power known as Sense Aura to the Jedi Order of the Galactic Republic was a powerful and naturally-occurring Force ability that manifested itself in only a few beings. Because of this, it could not be taught, and was thus also difficult to describe.

Description[]

Sense Aura, as the name implied, took the form of 'auras' or 'shades' that the Force-user in question could perceive around all living things. Though the experience was unique to each individual who wielded this power, it was consistent in that the auras that surrounded sentient beings were seen as possessing their own individual characteristics, such as color combinations, luminosity, or patterns, that defied classification.

Usage[]

Those who possessed the natural affinity for Sense Aura were able to access it readily once they had become aware of it within themselves. Through training and meditation, a Force-user could expand the distances at which they could discern individual auras, or else the collective sense of groups of beings, even out to planetary distances in some cases.

Laera Reyolé, at the time of the Jedi Civil War, was the only known user of Sense Aura. Guided by her Master, Vrook Lamar, she was able to learn how to use her ability to more easily affect the minds of other beings, proving that it was a gateway to higher-tier mental powers. By the time of the liberation of Iridonia some years later, Reyolé had expanded her sphere of detection to the point that she could sense relative population densities at the distance of a lunar orbit.
