The Battle of Abonshee was a battle of the Cruentusian War. Having introduced itself into the war, the United Coalition of Worlds moved into the Abonshee system, occupied by the Death's Tongue Militia fanatic group previously, to restore peace. Using shock-and-awe tactics, the UCW scored an initial advantage. Using heavy EMP use, the UCW managed to eventually rout the DTM after several days of intense warfare.
Prelude[]
A few months before, the DTM had taken over the planet of Abonshee, assisting local serfs in an uprising before consolidating its hold there and establishing a number of facilities. At this point, the United Coalition of Worlds had recently introduced itself at a battle of Janna, successfully testing out its military technology. Determined to eradicate the Death's Tongue Militia, and in turn, lessen the odds against the United Coalition of Worlds creating a cohesive galactic government, Janos Snake tasked both Tara Dras and Necasian defector Snaipes Horgan to make a show of power against a Death's Tongue Militia-occupied planet.
The battle[]
Initial engagements[]
Intending to catch the Death's Tongue Militia off guard, Tara Dras led a small group of warships to Abonshee during the local system's early hours. However, the United Coalition task force discovered the presence of DTM missile emplacements and rudimentary mass drivers on the nearby local moon. With Nataska Vergulva and Joe Tylars launching a concurrent offensive on the moon, Tara Dras elected to turn her attentions upon the planet itself.
Assisted by orbital EMP bombardment from the Tantor cruisers upon the DTM's heavy vehicles, numerous UCW assault teams landed planet-side and set up for a push into the planet's capital city. As the UCW's forces landed on the surface, the DTM began to shell the UCW's advance with the ore and missiles from the nearby moon. Tara Dras deployed the Viper battle tanks under her disposal and tasked them remain within range of their infantry in the hopes the tank's electronic countermeasures would provide some protection against DTM's missiles while Nataska led the assault on the moon.
Push into the city[]
After a struggle across the craggy terrain surrounding Abonshee's capital, the UCW forces managed to breach its walls. However, the UCW forces were unprepared for the DTM's traps and ran afoul of various hidden bombs and suicide bombings, and they suffered multiple losses from the attacks. Due to this, Tara commanded the forces to set up various camps in the broken buildings and await further orders. The order was met with confusion and dissent amongst the ranks, however, the order was followed. In the hours following, Tara deployed the remaining infantry on the cruisers and paranoia grew amongst the UCW's troops as the DTM remained silent.
With the UCW lines replenished, Tara ordered the UCW infantry divisions forward with the armor divisions as heavy support. As the infantry pushed through the city, the DTM sprung their trap, unleashing the eborax virus upon the advancing enemy. Unprepared for the viral attack, panic rampaged through the ranks and the DTM commander, Sashin Ramar, pushed the advantage, sending in DTM militants supported by Rapier combat bikes and ordering the recommencement of orbital bombardment from the planet's moon. Tara ordered the infantry to retreat behind the tanks as they advanced upon the approaching militants. Using the ECM of the tanks in unconventional ways, the armor division managed to disable the Rapier bikes and the militant's radio communications.
Taking the advantage[]
Shortly after, the bombardment from Abonshee II ceased and, identifying DTM strongholds, Tara began an assault upon the buildings with orbital attacks from Tantor cruiser's EMP and ballistic cannons followed by clean-up by commando teams.
Forseeing a United Coalition victory, Sashin Ramar decided to do as much damage to enemy as possible before the DTM's defeat. Sashin ordered Seraphim battle tanks modified to use missiles filled with the eborax virus and Hopper attack crafts to straddle the opposition, whilst Sashin fled for the Strat-class cruiser located on the other side of the planet.
Giving chase[]
As Sashin fled the city, Greyfox Squad, which was being momentarily led by Snaipes Horgan, noticed his retreat and requested permission to pursue the fleeing DTM commander. The permission was granted, and the squad was picked up by Exfor gunship. Sashin, noticing that he was being followed, ordered his escorts to destroy the pursuing gunship. This attack managed to cause some damage to the gunship, though it was able to escape crashing and it managed to follow Sashin to his destination. This time, however, the gunship was shot down by Sashin's shuttle and the commander was able to escape to the awaiting cruiser and then the system.
The gunship landed roughly upon the surface, yet safe enough too ensure that there were minimal casualties.
Final movements[]
With their commander having fled the system, the DTM's morale was broken and most surrendered. However, with the few that didn't, Tara ordered carpet bombing from Emperor assault bombers and then a systematic sweep through the city by the remaining commando teams. Within hours the remaining DTM forces had been rounded up, and Tara was able to report success to Janos Snake.
Aftermath[]
Tara Dras was commended by Janos Snake for quickly breaking the DTM's hold upon the Abonshee system and subsequently lead a future assault upon another DTM-held system. The DTM had again suffered a major defeat and withdrew the last of their militants to support the other systems that were still held by their military.
