We should not have made this bargain."
"You're over-reacting. This was a good bargain. If we help the Sith gain control of the galaxy, then they will help us with the invasion."
"Then why do I feel like we will be killed before they succeed?"
"We won't.

—Rune Haako and Nute Gunray

Rune Haako was the Neimoidian advisor to Nute Gunray during the invasion of Naboo in 23 BBY. Although the invasion had failed and both Gunray and Haako were captured at the end of the invasion, the Trade Federation's second attempt at retaking Naboo sparked the Clone Wars.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Sometime before the invasion, Rune Haako had met and joined Nute Gunray on the Trade Federation, becoming the viceroy's personal adviser. Both had left the Galactic Republic and met Darth Sidious and his apprentice, Darth Maul, the former Jedi Knight, Khameir Sarin. Both Sith Lords promised to help Gunray and Haako with whatever plans they needed as long as the two helped Sidious take control of the galaxy. Sidious then brought the Federation together with the Commerce Guild, Techno Union, Banking Clan, and Geonosian Industries, thus forming the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Invasion of Naboo[]

In 23 BBY, Haako joined Gunray in the invasion of Naboo. When Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum sent Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his former apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi to negotiate terms with the Federation to stop the invasion. After learning from Gunray's protocol droid, TC-14, about the identity of the ambassadors, Haako panicked stating that they were done for. Gunray tried sending Haako to distract the two while he contacted Sidious, but Haako backed out, explaining that the Jedi could twist his thoughts and turn them against each other. Haako suggested on sending TC-14 to distract the two. Gunray then contacted Sidious, in which Haako blamed him for not keeping the Jedi away from their plans. Sidious was amused that Haako was more afraid of the Jedi than of him. He then ordered Gunray to let the Jedi continue their path, but realized Gunray was a coward and told him to kill them if it pleased him.

MaulGunray

Gunray and Haako receive orders from Sidious, regarding the Jedi.

Gunray went ahead and attempted to kill them, but with no success. After the Jedi escaped, Gunray began the invasion. Eventually, the invasion had failed with both Gunray and Haako being captured, the droid forces being destroyed by Annikin Skywalker, and Maul escaping without either Neimoidian. Despite being captured and awaiting trial on Coruscant, droid forces attempted to retake Naboo, only to be defeated by the Jedi and new Clone army of the Republic, thus sparking the Clone Wars.

Personality and traits[]

Haako, like most Neimoidians, was labeled as greedy and cowardly. He was usually showing fear for Sidious and Maul, but during the invasion showed great fear towards the Jedi. Haako was also nervous of Gunray's deal with Sidious, feeling they would both be killed before the Sith succeed. Gunray denied it, however.
