Reuben Oz was a youngling from the New Jedi Order. He was an orphan, originally from the backwater planet of Roswell, a world ignorant to the rest of the galaxy until a few years ago, and he doesn't attempt to hide his utter fascination with life off his home world. Reuben was first discovered at the age of 10 when Jedi had come to liberate their planet from industrial invaders who had assumed control of Roswell two years earlier for its abundant supply of quartz. When Reuben was discovered to have a moderately strong sense of the Force, it was suggested he go with them to learn the ways of a Jedi.

[edit] Pre-Contact Life

Reuben Oz was born to a backwater, low-tech planet as the son of a restaurant chef and a nurse. He was orphaned a year after birth when a gas leak at the restaurant his father worked at caused an explosion that killed several people including Mr. and Mrs. Oz. Reuben came to life in a local suburban orphanage where he developed an interest in tinkering with mechanics and reading science fiction novels.

Reuben loved camping as well. On one camping experience in 19 ABY, he wandered into a cave and eventually found an orange crystal half buried deep inside. He kept the crystal as orange was his favorite color, and it would become the focusing crystal for his lightsaber several years later.

Around 29 ABY, an industrial invasion force had arrived on Roswell, detecting large amounts of quartz on the planet. The invaders took over with relative ease as the Roswellers had never seen the kind of "alien technology" they carried before. The extraterrestrial visitors soon had many, including children such as Reuben, digging for quartz.

Due to their lack of communication with off-world life, Roswell could not call for help on its own. But at 31 ABY, the Jedi did discover the industrial takeover of the planet. Soon after, the planet was liberated and the leader of the invasion was put to trial. While on Roswell, one Jedi interacted with Reuben and found the Force to be relatively strong with him. When life on Roswell was back in order, the New Republic began negotiations with the planet's Alliance of Nations regarding the planet's induction into the Republic.

Meanwhile, the Jedi who discovered Reuben learned more about him and offered to adopt the young boy, taking him to the Junior Jedi Academy to be trained in the ways of the Force. Reuben was amazed by the society that spanned the galaxy and spent quite a bit of time studying its history, customs, and basic technology.

[edit] Personality and traits

Reuben Oz was a spunky and quick-witted boy. He was rather excitable and tended to show fascination with plenty of things most "alien" kids of the galaxy took for granted, including droids (though he usually called them androids or--as degrading as it sounded--robots). Having a natural sense of curiosity, he would sometimes take a small pieces of machinery apart to see how they work; this actually included a lightsaber once in his early training days, though he ended up putting it back together incorrectly and the misdirected energy loop caused the weapon to "self destruct" when Reuben tested it (he was shaken up, but generally alright). He's a generally polite individual, but he had a tendency to try avoiding anyone that showed the slightest hostile opinion of him. Another notable tidbit about Reubin is that he is left-handed. Reuben has been known to be something of a comic book geek. During the first few months of his Jedi training, he had an occasional habit of performing superhero stereotypes as he ecstatically considerered his force sensitivity to be his own superpowers to one day save the day with.

Reuben boasted a relatively considerable knowledge of science and technology, and he loved to tinker with gadgets. Whenever building something from scratch, Reuben preferred to sketch it out on blueprint first. He could seem like something of a perfectionist with his blueprints, and he'd usually sketch out several drafts on white sheets before drawing out the official on blue paper. He could also reverse engineer some of the more relatively simple tech he'd come across during his training, though getting the specs exactly when putting a device back together was often another story.

Reuben also possessed a level of culinary skill, probably inherited from his father, and he liked to experiment with foods. He also happens to be a pretty good dancer. Reuben had a relative good grip of controlling the Force, though he would sometimes have trouble controlling where he moved things when using telekinesis, often joking that he had "bad Force-eye coordination."

Reuben Oz was created by DanMat6288. The character is designed as a basic concept of what would happen if a Force-sensitive Earthling were to be sent to train as a Jedi without being from Earth or anywhere outside of the Star Wars galaxy. Reuben's middle and last names come from George Lucas and Frank Oz, respectively. His home planet is named after Roswell, New Mexico, the town famous for the supposed UFO crash. By Earth standards, Reuben has what sounds like a rather light Brooklyn accent.

The image used for Reuben's article, like the rest of the author's drawing style, is of a simple, cartoonish anatomy. It's currently being used to display a basic concept of what Reuben looks like, but if viewers like to post a more realistic depiction of this character, they are encouraged to show the author the image by linking to it on his talk page first. The author has also stated that any suggestions to improve the character will be welcomed on his user talk page.
