Republic troopers were the main units of the Republic Army recruited for the sole purpose of defending the Galactic Republic further back in the historical days before the eruption of the first Clone Wars. Mainly composed of Humans and only males, each of these troopers swore an oath to protect and defend the Republic in general and in specific, regardless of costing their very lives.
It was noted that throughout the entire history of the Republic, not one trooper had ever even attempted to betray the government or its people. And so, they were deemed far better than altered clones and programmed battle droids, making them the best units in the whole galaxy.
Though dissolved in 75 BBY, the Galactic Republic eventually decided to reform the Republic troopers in the year of 17 BBY. As the Grand Army died off, the Republic Military was restored for the purpose of defending the Republic against increasing enemy forces.
