Sir Rensi Shal-Shatir OSO was a male Doloy officer of the Royal Navy of the Golden Empire.

Biography[]

Military career[]

Born on Dolomir shortly before it was annexed into the Golden Empire in 102 ABY, Shal-Shatir was the eldest son of two career military officers of the Tetrarchy of Mezlagob. Embarking on a military career himself, he attended the Royal Naval Academy and earned a commission as an ensign in the Royal Navy.

Ambitious and fiercely competitive, Shal-Shatir attended several service schools and earned multiple graduate degrees. He served as a staff aide to the Royal Starfleet's High Command, and the support and patronage of his superior officers led to his first major command, captaining a picket ship while still only a Lieutenant.

Continuing to excel on promotional examinations and make influential acquaintances, by 141 ABY Shal-Shatir was captain of the Imperial Star Destroyer Keltrayu. He and the Keltrayu were assigned to the command of Legate Sorrik during the Ssi-ruuvi Incursion, and subsequently to Legate Breek Zagrev. Breveted to the rank of Commodore for the duration of the campaign, Shal-Shatir served as Zagrev's second-in-command and commanded the space engagement at the Battle of Shest Minor while Zagrev led the ground invasion.

Following the conclusion of the campaign, the Keltrayu was dispatched to the command of Tarse Medrego to finish the Vagaari War. Though Shal-Shatir and Medrego often butted heads over their very different personalities and command styles, the Keltrayu nonetheless played a critical role in several Royal victories over the Vagaari.

After the war, Shal-Shatir was made an Officer of the Sovereign's Order and promoted to Vice Admiral in the Royal Starfleet's High Command. During the Nightmare War, he lobbied for a campaign to retake Dolomir after the depradations of the Reawakened. He was aboard the Sith Star during the Battle of Dolomir, and startled many of his colleagues by fighting in the Battle of the Sith Star rather than taking shelter with most of the senior officers.

Civilian service[]

Dolomir, retaken but in ruins, was in need of a Consul. Shal-Shatir dropped hints that he was available for and interested in the appointment, and his former commander Breek Zagrev gave him her endorsement. Shal-Shatir was given the Consulship and immediately became Dolomir's most dedicated partisan, constantly lobbying the Royal government for relief funding and supplies while courting companies to invest in the rebuilding efforts. His diligence was considered by other Doloy to have been a critical factor in the quick rebuilding of the Dolomir Merchant Officers Academy and the University of Dolomir.

Shal-Shatir was initially one of the loudest voices calling for punishing war reparations against the Skavik, if not their total annihilation. During his first year, he appointed a number of ministers, including businessman-turned-government officer Kairol Hannep as his Finance Minister. Shal-Shatir was unaware that Hannep was taking bribes, and was genuinely surprised and dismayed when Hannep "had a heart attack" in late 150 ABY.

Despite Hannep's demise, Shal-Shatir's efforts paid dividends in the decade following the Nightmare War. The University of Dolomir admitted a new freshman class in 152 ABY, and the Merchant Officers Academy reopened the following year. Shal-Shatir's personal appeals to species and homeworld pride resulted in a major migration of expatriate Doloy to their homeworld, and he managed to wrangle deals with extraplanetary companies which secured investments and loans for Dolomir at very favorable terms. In return for dropping his calls for retribution against the Skavik, Shal-Shatir also secured some personal support and favors from his old commander, Breek Zagrev.

In 153 ABY, Shal-Shatir had a floor seat for Jira Zaffrod's performance at the Samayus Palace of Opera; he was among the Shest Minor veterans who gave Jira a standing ovation for her rendition of "The Cannons Roared on Shest Minor".

Appearance and personality[]

Rensi Shal-Shatir had the green skin and white hair common to all Doloy, and gold eyes which were described as "piercing" by many of his subordinates. He was physically fit, though thin.

Breek: “You just resent that he's as good a bullshit artist as you are.
Tariun: “That is a heartless thing to say, Lady Sakaros. Rensi Shal-Shatir isn't in the amateur leagues, I'll grant you, but he still has a ways to go before he can treat flattery like a slender knife to be slipped between the ribs of logic.

Ambitious by nature, Shal-Shatir measured success by rank and station in life, and was committed to enhancing his own. Other beings considered him a hard worker and very intelligent, and put both to use in winning the approval of his superiors. He was less popular among his peers and subordinates, who viewed him as somewhat ruthless and needlessly competitive. While a skilled and able tactician, he viewed command as a means to an end (promotion), rather than an end in itself. He made many useful connections among senior officers through a combination of achievement and flattery.

As Consul of Dolomir, Shal-Shatir worked relentlessly to repopulate and reinvigorate his homeworld. Rin Sakaros felt it might have been the first project he was passionate about for reasons beyond what it could do for him personally.
