"Cavalier is my middle name. You can’t even imagine the teasing at the schoolyard. Full name, of course, being Remy Cavalier Diabet, Now With More Real Butter Flavor...The First."
—Remy Diabet

Remy Diabet was a freelance detective active during the Galactic Civil War and for several years following it. He used his CorSec training and partnership with Jav Yonx to solve crimes for hire. He was born on Corellia to a CorSec detective father and nurse mother. His father was killed three years after Remy's birth by Ezar Ybrosh in an explosion that essentially wiped the family's hometown of Iodef off the map. Remy, his mother, and his sister Meih moved to Bortelles, the city where Remy would later serve as a CorSec officer himself - despite a phobia that caused him to become nauseous at the thought of using a blaster. In that job, he met Jav Yonx and left the force soon after to start a private investigation business with the Duro. Working as a detective-for-hire introduced him to his future wife Messuni Roserain, with whom he finally settled down and became a professor at a Bortelles university.

[edit] Biography

[edit] CorSec

"What kind of cop knows how to steal a speeder?"
"They call us CorSec.
"
—Jav Yonx and Remy Diabet

After graduating from CorSec Academy and clearing the CorSec firearms proficiency test with the lowest passing score possible, Remy went to work for Internal Affairs. His assignment brought him to his adopted hometown Bortelles, a city with an incredibly high rate of police corruption. Remy's investigation resulted in the termination of five officers with criminal ties, and the hatred of many crooked cops who remained. He remained in Bortelles, serving in a normal capacity unrelated to Internal Affairs.

Remy's partner was Djerro Begg, an old friend from the academy. They worked together until Begg's resignation in 1 BBY, which was quickly followed by his apparent death. Around this time, he met Jav Yonx, a Duro policeman who was investigating the murder of his colleague Edairu Benali. As Remy had been Benali's Corellian police contact in a case against interplanetary smugglers, he helped Jav look into the killing. By the end of the case, Remy gave up hope for his ability to act within the system, and resigned from CorSec. He and Jav went into business for themselves as private detectives.

[edit] Detective for Hire

"Detective stuff this time?"
"Detective stuff.
"
—Jav Yonx and Remy Diabet

Remy and Jav came to enjoy a small amount of notoriety as capable, though eccentric, detectives who would take most any job if the credits were good enough. Their career together lasted approximately 20 years. Their biggest cases included the assassination of a Senator (traced to Benul Caintin under the orders of Mr. Black), serial killings, nuclear terrorism, and even a job finding a missing Jedi artifact for Luke Skywalker - a man whom Remy admired deeply.

It was during the case of that dead senator that Remy and Jav first met Messuni Roserain, who saved them from several bounty hunters for reasons she refused to disclose. Roserain was a recurring presence in the detectives' lives, serving as something of a guardian angel. She joined the partners on a permanent basis about six years after the Battle of Endor, when she and Remy confessed their feelings for one another while being held hostage by Nirug Lossk. They married two years afterward, and went on to parent two children. Messuni made an effort to cure Remy's fear of blasters one of her ongoing projects. While her training reduced the severity of the problem, she could not eliminate it entirely.

The detectives utilized two different modes of transportation during their career. The first was the Freelancer, a Corellian YV-850 freighter that had belonged to Jav's uncle Palo Yonx. It was destroyed in an attempt on Remy and Jav's lives by a rival detective. It was succeeded by another Corellian freighter, the Freelancer II. It was eventually sold to finance college funds for Remy's children, except for one scrap of the hull which he took to wearing around his neck.

Jav and Remy argued constantly throughout their time as partners, until finally they went separate ways. The issue that split them was the death of Audrinna Jaxic, a CorSec lab technician who became a private detective because of the example of her hero Jav and advice of Remy. Each blamed the other's influence for the young woman's murder at the hands of a suspect she'd been investigating.

During his time as a detective, Remy worked with and against numerous underworld figures, including but not limited to Synth Lydon, Alias Sibul, The Sonar Man, Venigom Hai-soz, Taalos Amier, Welc Ryred, Nemis Magedd, and Aria Illiem.

[edit] Professor

"And what do you plan to do with your free morning, Professor Diabet?"
"Oh, you know, crack three homicides, cure a virus, teach myself Neimoidian, solve for X, make a sandwich, do the laundry."
"Okay, forget planning. What
will you do?"
"Oh definitely make a sandwich.
"
—Remy Diabet and Messuni Diabet

Remy and Messuni retired to the suburbs of Bortelles after Jav left. The city had since been cleaned up thanks to the assassination of crime lord Welc Ryred and the follow-up efforts of CorSec, The Sonar Man, and even Jav and Remy. There Remy acquired a position as a professor at the local university teaching courses related to criminal justice and forensics. The Diabets raised two children. The older daughter Aria was a cynical failed student of the Jedi Academy, and the younger son Wes was an enthusiastic child who went on to follow in his father's footsteps.

Life was relatively normal for fifteen years, until The Sonar Man called Remy with one last case. Remy and Messuni reunited with Jav, and embarked on an investigation of a serial killer killing Sonar's allies in the same manner as "The Justice Killer", whom the detectives had previously caught. They came to find that the killings were the work of The Network, an organization behind thousands of conspiracies over the preceding 7,000 years - including several in some way connected to Remy and the people around him. The inquiry ended aboard The Invisible Goliath, the Network's roving base of operations, where Jav killed its leader Mr. Black. While on this case, Remy and Jav finally repaired their damaged friendship for good.

Remy returned to his university job and lived out the rest of his life in peace.

[edit] Behind the scenes

Remy is depicted by Alan Tudyk. His "now with more real butter flavor" catchphrase comes from a throwaway gag in a writing exercise. It has since become a running joke appearing multiple times in most stories featuring him. Remy won Best Original Character, Male in the "Saga" edition of TheForce.Net's 2008 fanfiction awards.
