[edit] Biography
[edit] Early Years
- "I’m only a Padawan learner, but one day I’ll be a Jedi."
- —Padmé Naberrie[src]
Padmé only had a few vague and disconnected memories of her parents as she grew up in the Jedi Temple. Later, it was revealed to her that her last name, Naberrie, was a prominent one on Naboo so presumably Padmé was born there. She was first trained in lightsaber combat by Renust Nju. At the age of twelve she was apprenticed to Shakya Devi, not much is known about their first years together though Padmé always expressed regret that she did not know her first Master more.
[edit] Naboo Crisis (32 BBY)
- "You would have been killed if you had tried to stand and fight."
- —Qui-Gon Jinn[src]
Two years following their partnership, Padmé and Devi were sent by Supreme Chancellor Valorum to mediate the Naboo Crisis. When Devi was killed by Darth Maxah Padmé sent a 913 which was received by Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi, they contacted her once they arrived on the planet and assisted in the Queen Nalanda fleeing the planet. She accompanied Qui-Gon to Mos Espa when the ship was forced to land on Tatooine and met Anakin Skywalker. When they arrived on Coruscant, Padmé was relieved of the mission by the Jedi Council but later (due to the intervention of Kuan Yin Nevu) returned to Naboo and assisted Nalanda in her fight to the throne room. Following the Battle of Naboo she was apprenticed to Kuan Yin Nevu.
[edit] Secession Crisis (22 BBY)
- "This is my first real assignment and I wanted to prove that I could handle it on my own."
- —Padmé Naberrie[src]
[edit] Clone Wars (22 BBY - 17 BBY)
- "I've seen this war firsthand, and I don’t want it to continue another moment more than necessary, even if that means making certain sacrifices."
- —Padmé Naberrie[src]
During the Clone Wars, Padmé was involved in quite a few decisive engagements, including the Battle of Aphidna and the Defence of Carlyle. She also tracked the former Jedi Shinai Stel-Ardak with Anakin following his sabotage of the Conference of Avingnon and was involved in the Liberation of Naboo prior to the war's end.
In the Battle of Coruscant, Padmé came to assist Obi-Wan and Anakin and was able to prevent Anakin killing Count Dooku. After the battle, she was approached by Senator Bail Prestor Organa of Alderaan who was secretly planning to discredit Palpatine along with the rest of the Loyalist Committee and wanted to know where the Jedi would stand, Padmé told him that the Jedi's position was a precarious one yet things should improve after General Grievous was killed.
[edit] Confrontation with Sidious and Death
- "I’m sorry, Anakin, I love you, and I tried to save you, but I won’t let you destroy yourself."
- —Padmé Naberrie[src]
From R2-D2 and C-3PO (who were analysing transmissions from the Invisible Hand) Padmé learnt that Palpatine was the Sith Lord Darth Sidious (at the same time Anakin learned this from Sidious himself). Realising the importance of the data, she made sure it was sent on to Senator Organa and she and Anakin went to confront Sidious, on the way witnessing the death of her former Master Kuan Yin Nevu at the hands of Renust Nju.
In Palpatine's office, Anakin and Padmé came to blows after she attempted to kill the Sith while under the influence of the dark side of the Force. Palpatine convinced Anakin that Padmé would betray him, like all the Jedi had and attempted to kill her with Force-lightning, reminding Anakin of the Force vision he had experienced of Padmé's death. Anakin deflected the lightning with his lightsaber, giving Padmé the opportunity to kill the Sith Lord, though she was hit with the full force of the explosion when Sidious died. In Anakin's arms, Padmé died, telling him with her dying breath that she loved him and not to lose himself because she was no longer there.
[edit] Legacy
It took a full three years for Anakin to put Padmé's sacrifice in perspective, he was in a way assisted by the fact that he took Sona Cantari as his apprentice. Bail Organa was another who promised himself that her death would not be in vain, which perhaps led to his assention to Supreme Chancellor following the period of Caretaker Government.
[edit] Spirit Life
Padmé first appeared as a Force ghost to Sona Cantari and Han Solo during the Battle of Mantua, assisting them in evading Varicean troops. Anakin at first did not believe Sona, but he later spoke with her in the months after the Fall of Coruscant when he was grieving for the loss of his former Master, Obi-Wan.
Padmé was also one of the Force ghosts that appeared during the victory celebrations at the end of the Galactic Civil War.
[edit] Personality and Traits
- "Jedi don’t make decisions like this, they don’t make decisions based on personal motivations."
- —Padmé Naberrie[src]
Raised as a Jedi from an early age, Padmé took to heart the Jedi techings of non-attachment, self-sacrifice and self-discipline. She faced her first test of will at the age of fourteen following the death of her first Master Shakya Devi at the hands of Darth Maxah, but was allowed to return to Naboo on the understanding that it would help her heal. Despite this, Maxah was to be in Padmé's nightmares for quite some time after.
Padmé's confidence grew as she matured, and her dedication to the Jedi order was unquestioned. This was why, despite her personal feelings for Anakin Skywaker, she was able to leave her feelings for him behind her. This may have also happened because of the fact she had discovered her former lightsaber instructor, Renust Nju, was really a Sith Lord. Padmé always regretted that she did not expose Nju for what he was, despite Yoda telling her that it would do more harm than good. also, Padmé was able to make the ultimate Jedi choice in deciding to eliminate Darth Sidious rather than sparing him for Anakin's sake.
[edit] Power and Abilities
- "You were a fine student, Padmé. I only wish you could be more practical."
- —Renust Nju[src]
As a young Padawan, Padmé had trouble controlling the Force and continually found it slipping from her grasp. This of course changed as she became more competant to the extent she was able to do a powerful Force-push in order to stop Anakin Skywalker from attacking her when they dueled at the end of the Clone Wars.
Padmé's lightsaber trained was under the instruction of Renust Nju, though she learned much from her second Master Kuan Yin Nevu. She was skilled in Ataru, using her speed and agility to the advantage. Anakin once commented that it was almost like she was dancing. Padmé also utiliesed Sokan, which she used extensively in her duels with Renust Nju and Anakin Skywalker.
[edit] Relationships
[edit] Anakin Skywalker
- "I’d have to give all of myself, and anything less wouldn’t be fair on you. Keeping it a secret would be like cutting myself in two, and you’d be the same."
- —Padmé Naberrie[src]
Padmé first met Anakin Skywalker when he was ten years old and even then he seemed to have a crush on her, treating her as a person rather than as a Jedi, something that had not happened to Padmé before. Anakin never looked on Padmé as another Jedi, he just saw her as herself and this would prove to be crucial to their relationship.
Ten years later when they accompanied Senator Nalanda to safety on Naboo. Padmé was at first against this and asked her former Master Kuan Yin Nevu to change the Jedi Council's ruling, yet Nevu told Padmé that this was a test that she needed to face. Despite her efforts, Padmé found herself opening up to him which came to a point when they were both underwater and kissed. After that, Padmé explained to Anakin that there needed to be a distance between them, for their own sakes if no one elses. Anakin initially agreed, but but later tried to get her to change her mind to no avail. This was after Padmé's discovery of Renust Nju's betrayal and she was having her own doubts about the integrity of the Jedi Order. Because she had been raised as a Jedi, Padmé was able to leave her feelings for Anakin behind. Anakin wasn't able to, and Padmé knew this as well.
At the end of the Clone Wars, Padmé came to assist Obi-Wan and Anakin during the Battle of Coruscant and following the battle Anakin experienced a vision of her dying at the hands of a Sith. Padmé never attached any importance to this, yet it was through this vision that Sidious attempted to seduce Anakin to the dark side of the Force. However, Sidious was successful in turning Anakin against her and Padmé made the ultimate Jedi choice:putting aside her personal feelings for Anakin and saw him as a mere extension of Sidious' will. Padmé managed to overcome him temporarily and moved to attack the Sith Lord, being fried by his Force-lightning. Yet in the end, it was Padmé's love for Anakin, something she had never confessed until then, that saved her (as well as the whole Galaxy) when Anakin stopped the lightning with his lightsaber so she could attack Sidious. Her dying words were for Anakin, as she knew that her death could drive him into despair, yet it would prove to be three years before he was able to see her sacrifice for what it was.
