Owen Kenobi, Jr. was what some would call a Jedi and what others would call a renegade. Owen Kenobi was never part of Yoda's or Luke Skywalker's Jedi Order, but was trained in the ways of the Force by the Force-ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi, his uncle. Owen Kenobi was credited with being a "savior" to the Ewoks of various tribes, and had changed the face of the Galaxy with his devotion to the Jedi way, even though he worked far from civilization for most of his career.

[edit] Biography

[edit] Heritage

Obi-Wan Kenobi, though raised in the Jedi Temple from the time he was a baby, knew his brother, Owen Kenobi. Owen Kenobi was not strong in the Force, as his brother was, though he carried a recessive gene inside that granted direct interaction with the Force. Owen Kenobi married several years after the Blockade of Naboo, in 32 BBY. The father of a future great man gave birth to a single son, which the mother named after the father.

[edit] Early Life

The couple raised the boy on Alderaan, and they lived a peaceful life even into the Clone Wars. Owen Kenobi, Jr. grew strong and content through his childhood, living normally from the struggles at school to the joys with the HoloNet. The boy grew in a family whose father was an architect and the mother investing in stocks. The family shared a strong bond and the father, mother, and child were inseparable.

[edit] Rise of the Empire

The family was disrupted by the fall of democracy in the Galactic Senate, as Owen Senior was politically minded and was an action-taking soul. Stormtroopers invaded the family's home one night, after the Jedi named Kenobi. As Owen Senior looked exactly like his brother, the Stormtroopers fired, but did not strike down the target, as Owen Senior fired first. The family moved, Owen Junior then only eight years old, and Owen Kenobi, Sr. joining the Rebellion that was growing.

[edit] Custody of the Rebellion

Owen Kenobi, Jr. grew up with the Rebel Alliance, and learned to hate the Empire. But Owen felt that the best way to overthrow the new order was to undermine the government the same way that it had been when Palpatine declared himself the Emperor. Owen tried to spread the idea that a galactic civil war would only prolong the Empire's reign and provoke many to attempt to continue the legacy of the Empire even if Palpatine was overthrown. Owen thought that Palpatine had to make himself look bad in front of everyone to lose political support, and then gain consent of a complete rebellion when nearly nobody left is loyal to the Emperor.

[edit] Battle of Hoth

After the Battle of Yavin, the Rebel fleet moved to Hoth, and was invaded by Imperial troops sometime later. Owen Kenobi's mother had died of hypothermia while there was a shortage of medical supplies.

On Hoth, Owen learned to master the controls of the X-wing starfighter he was assigned. His family, stationed in Outpost Theta, a concealed storage settlement for rescue vehicles and transports, was isolated from the rest of the establishment on Hoth, in order to allow for extra evacuation tools in case the Imperial Navy tracked down the base. Owen, a headstrong, determined young man, took a long time studying the schematics for the X-wing and practicing his sharpshooting on asteroids in a nearby debris field within the system, but he was later promoted to lieutenant just before Darth Vader found Echo Base.

Outpost Theta, just out of the boundaries of the shield generator, was still hidden, and evaded Imperial detection. However, when the landing forces were spotted, the group of thirty-five fighters, led by Nafai Starmaster and Reuben Kralich, were dispatched to intercept as many of the landing craft as possible.

The group managed to disable four transports carrying juggernauts and AT-ATs, and destroyed nearly forty landing craft dispatching AT-STs and snowtroopers. Owen's father was killed in the attack. Enraged at the sudden loss, Owen destroyed several squadrons of TIE fighters single-handedly, and then fled the planet, heading toward the middle of nowhere.

[edit] Destiny as a Jedi

Though Owen Kenobi, Jr. thought he chose his destination randomly, his feelings guided him to select a planet the ghost of Obi-Wan wished to meet him at. The X-Wing pulled out of hyperspace over Mustafar, a lava-scorched planet, and he landed at, "coincidentally," the same landing platform where Padme's cruiser touched down at the end of the Clone Wars. Owen Kenobi was now fully-grown, headstrong, and teeming with energy, just as Obi-Wan were when he was a youngling. In addition, as he exited the fighter, the ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi appeared, having just finished saying to Yoda on Dagobah "So was I, if you remember."

Obi-Wan prophesized that Owen's path would be a great one, and took Owen as an apprentice, teaching his nephew the ways of the Force. Owen Kenobi learned to control his feelings and listen to the will of the Force, learning to be a Jedi as effectively as any knight. Owen Kenobi excelled in lightsaber combat, and was a vigorous learner, thinking that he was destined to be the one to undermine the Empire as Palpatine had undermined the Republic.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, just as the Death Star II was being destroyed, told Owen that it was indeed his time to prove himself as a Jedi, and his trial mission was to search Endor and reactivate any planetary shield generator stations that remained on the planet to prevent the debris from the Death Star II from wiping out the life there. Obi-Wan promised that Owen Kenobi would become a Jedi Master if his mission succeeded, and Owen became excited. His trial was to change the entire course of his life, and for the better.

...But not in the way Owen Kenobi suspected...

[edit] Fate on Endor

Owen Kenobi, Jr. traveled to the Forest Moon of Endor to search the planet for any remaining Imperials, and piloted his T-65 X-Wing over the moon. A piece of debris from the Death Star II collided with his spacecraft, however, and he lost control of his starfighter. The X-Wing crashed onto the surface of the Forest Moon, and the impact knocked the Jedi unconscious.

Owen Kenobi, Jr. awoke among curious Ewoks, who, despite their confusion and curiosity, chose to take care of him until his intentions were revealed. The local Ewok shamans saw his starfighter fall from the sky, and thought he was a sign from the gods. Owen Kenobi used the Force to communicate with the Ewoks, and through much effort and desperation, Owen was able to convince the Ewoks to help him in his mission.

Owen and a team of volunteer Ewoks, most of them curious creatures who were not really determined to be loyal to their assignment; rather inquire to the foreigner, scoured a hundred-kilometer radius an activated four Imperial generators that could create a strong enough field to send falling debris back into space, presumably into the gas giant Endor. With this mission achieved in an astounding week, considering the load of followers who were not of great help, he saved the life on Endor from extinction. Even then, however, meteors and space junk was falling unimaginably consistently, and the atmosphere was clouding. Over the next decade, Owen and the many tribes of Endor would endure a global chill from the interfering particles in the atmosphere and the dust kicked up from the larger meteorites.

He led the Ewoks against the escape shuttles and generator sentries that found refuge on the planet, and several months later, long after the Rebel Alliance departed, Owen Kenobi concluded that he had fulfilled his mission, though he was unable to return to the civilized universe.

[edit] Immersion into the Ewok Tribe

Owen Kenobi, Jr., knowing how to tap into the Force, brought awe to the Ewoks, and the primitive mammals respected the Jedi almost as a god. Owen Kenobi learned their language after months of immersion and was able to deny their worship, saying that his power came from the Force, and he was not an entity of any sort. He discovered several Force-sensitive Ewoks among the tribe, and taught them to use the Force and to be Jedi as he was. Owen Kenobi taught the Ewoks simple techniques of weaponcraft with the supplies available and helped unify the tribes in the area.

As a Jedi Order of Kenobi's started, the Ewok shamans became jealous of the human, and plotted against the Jedi. Owen Kenobi solved this problem by having the Endor Jedi Order work for the Ewoks' leadership. Owen Kenobi's Jedi shaped the local Ewok primitive government into a democracy, though the Endor Jedi were unable to make the system appear over the entire planet; they were limited to small areas on the Forest Moon. The new trade system introduced by Owen Kenobi proved effective for the several allied tribes with the Tree Tower village, and the many neighboring tribes adapted a less traditional economy.

One of the main missions of an Ewok Jedi was to slay the Goraxes that preyed upon the Ewok community. The Goraxes, which were dull-brained and brutal, were not so great a challenge for a gang of Ewoks with lightsabers and Force-skills. The security of the Tree Tower Village and neighboring tribes improved greatly because of the Endor Jedi's efforts. Negotiations and agreements were commonly settled between bickering clans and tribes with the help of the Endor Jedi Order.

In the meantime, Owen Kenobi, Jr. learned to better speak the language of the Ewoks, and he in turn taught some eager scholars to speak Basic. Owen Kenobi befriended the leaders of Tree Tower, and became an informal advisor to the clan leaders.

Though Owen Kenobi had hoped for a life of galactic significance, he fell in love with the naturally harmonious nature of the Ewoks and became dedicated to the Endorian species. He was a Jedi Master, as he was the leader of an order just as Jedi as the Senate-supported Old Republic Jedi Order and the Order, which Owen Kenobi was unfamiliar with, which was led by Luke Skywalker.

[edit] Second Clone War

Endor's surface was not touched so much by the New Republic, and the Tree Tower Village and the other villages made prospering by Owen Kenobi were unaware of the start of a galactic threat introduced by Darth Infineus. The Ewok Jedi and the human Master did sense the growth of the Dark Side, and the Endor Jedi Order did become suspicious of the growing dark activity.

[edit] Arrival of Jacen Solo and Tenel Ka

The mood of the tribes changed vigorously when Darth Monarchist chose the Forest Moon of Endor for a place to gather Force energy to feed the Dark Reaper. Several-captured Jedi were placed in the path of the Harvester's field to strengthen the Force that was to be harnessed. The Harvester was set up near the Tree Tower Village, and the reaping field receded just at the edge of the village.

Two curious visitors, accompanied by a couple of weary apprentices, were knocked out by the field on the edge of the Harvester's range. The visitors, who were Jacen Solo and Tenel Ka in their late teens, awoke to the same quarters that Owen Kenobi found himself in decades before. The Jedi explained their situation, and Owen Kenobi admitted that he considered himself a Jedi, as well as many Ewoks in his Order. The revelation of a separate Jedi Order on Endor startled the Jedi Knights, but they considered themselves in debt of them, nevertheless.

Owen Kenobi Jr. was reluctant to trust the newcomers immediately, but their interests became similar enough to cooperate when there became an appearance of Separatist outposts on Endor. Owen agreed to send some Ewok warriors (and Jedi) with Jacen and Tenel Ka to a Separatist outpost to send a distress signal. The outpost was overwhelmed, but the main base was unshaken. The communication was sent, and the Jedi returned to await a planned takeover to capture the Jedi before they could inform the New Republic of the Dark Reaper. (Medicio Kindoo had already discovered the plans, but the CIS II was unaware of it)

Owen Kenobi laid out a trap for the droid army that was approaching the Tree Tower Village, and sent Jacen, Tenel Ka, and three of the Ewok Jedi in the Endorian Order to mislead the massive convoy. The battle droids were directed straight into the path of a moonfall that started at the dawn.

The remaining forces attacked from outposts not exposed to the moonfall, and the Ewoks outnumbered them. Though technologically disadvantaged, the Ewoks fought the battle droids just as mercilessly as the instance of the Battle of Endor.

Owen Kenobi, Jr. was the first to spot a wedge shaped figure in the sky. Thinking that it was a Star Destroyer, carrying menacing Imperials from his early life, he exclaimed "A Star Destroyer!" Jacen corrected him, saying that the Justice-class Assault Ship was on their side, and Owen Kenobi finally told the Jedi Knights his name, and told them not to reveal his existence to the Jedi Order that looked out for the rest of the Galaxy. Owen Kenobi hid from the New Republic forces, which easily defeated the remaining battle droids, and returned to help the Ewoks who had lost their homes to the Harvester rebuild their lives.

[edit] Return of the Jedi

Owen Kenobi, Jr. helped to shelter and care for the many lives that had lost everything at the wrath of the Harvester. However, the Endor system began to be the home for another form of a superweapon: the Planetary Energy Harvester. A scale proof-of-concept prototype was built on the Volcanic Moon of Endor, which Darth Monarchist had commissioned to test an idea. As the Volcanic Moon was a neighbor to the Forest Moon, the growing darkness was sensed by the Endorian Jedi, and the Tree Tower Village became suspicious of the changing face of Endor's other large moon.

Coincidentally, the Planetary Energy Harvester prototype brought the same two Jedi Knights to the Endor System, Jacen Solo and Tenel Ka. The Jedi led a strike force to the Volcanic Moon to interfere with the Separatist plans, whatever they were. The Jedi Knights were shot down, and they escaped in a fighter whose hyperdrive failed. Because they were limited to short-range escapes, the Jedi fled to the Forest Moon, where they knew they had a friend: Owen Kenobi.

Owen Kenobi, Jr. welcomed the two Jedi, but was not thrilled to receive extra company. He had work to do to restore the area. Jacen Solo and Tenel Ka were nursed back to full health by volunteering Ewoks, and they later helped the neighboring villages recover from the long-term damage caused by the Harvester.

[edit] Darth Artoo's Crusade

Meanwhile, Darth Monarchist had traced the fighter and figured that the passengers were the two Jedi. To avoid revealing the plans for the P.E.H. to the New Republic, Darth Monarchist sent his astromech droid, Darth Artoo, to kill the Jedi. Darth Artoo led a small force of B-2 Battle Droids to the surface of the Forest Moon. Darth Artoo made its way to the Tree Tower Village, where the craft was found.

Owen Kenobi, Jr. and the Ewok Jedi, along with Jacen and Tenel Ka, accompanied legions of Ewok warriors to meet the Battle Droids. Owen Kenobi engaged the Force-sensitive astromech droid and they dueled in the many levels of the forest. The Ewoks' wood-and-stone weapons proved useless against the B-2s' heavy armor, but were able to destroy the Battle Droids by short-circuiting the blaster holes with buckets of water and making traps.

In the duel with a lighsaber-wielding astromech droid, Owen Kenobi, Jr. proved a strong Jedi, worthy of fighting even Luke Skywalker. Owen Kenobi had to face a small domed metal figure that carried five lightsabers and a blaster, however, and the fight was intense. Owen quickly disabled one lightsaber, and some time into the lightsaber duel, Darth Artoo accidentally set the forest on fire with an inaccurate blaster bolt. The rising flames blinded the inferior sensors of the B-2 Battle Droids and made them walk about confusedly, and the Ewok Jedi started to organize evacuation.

[edit] Death

Owen Kenobi, Jr. took out the next two lightsabers of Darth Artoo's within the next ten minutes. The astromech then surprised the Jedi Master with a blast of Force lightning, and Owen Kenobi was knocked back into a burning tree. Though shocked, Owen Kenobi was not greatly injured, but he knew he could not escape the rising flames of the forest fire. In a brief vision, he saw his former master and uncle, Obi-Wan Kenobi, declaring that their destinies were one and the same. He shouted, "Flee, you fools!" to Jacen and Tenel Ka, who had lagged behind. Darth Artoo cut the Jedi Master down in the next few seconds.

[edit] Force-Ghost

Owen Kenobi, Jr. witnessed Jacen Solo attempt to avenge his life on Darth Artoo and sever Darth Artoo's fourth lightsaber. Darth Artoo knocked Jacen out and put Tenel Ka unconscious with a heavy blast of Force lightning. Darth Artoo retreated to escape the flames, which were then growing to unbearable temperatures. Owen Kenobi was now one with the Force, and, as he still retained his individuality, he was still able to use it. Owen Kenobi protected the two unconscious Jedi Knights from the forest fire, and kept them safe through the hellish environment.

When Jacen and Tenel Ka awoke, Owen Kenobi showed himself to the Jedi in his new form, and promised that he would provide them a way to escape back to the technologically advanced portion of the Galaxy. Owen informed the Jedi that the Separatist forces were abandoning the paralyzed P.E.H. prototype, and were moving elsewhere to invade Mustafar.

Owen Kenobi, as a Force-Ghost, appeared on the command deck of a Porthole-class Battlecruiser, and used his retained Force abilities to remove the Battle Droids that piloted the craft. He used the Force to control the ship, and piloted it to the surface of the Forest Moon for Jacen and Tenel Ka to take back to wherever they were headed.

[edit] Preparation of the Ewoks

Owen Kenobi contacted the evacuated Ewoks as a Force-Ghost once Jacen and Tenel Ka departed. He told the Masters of the Endorian Jedi to organize the troops of the willing Ewoks into an army to assist the Galaxy in countering the threat of the Sith. He appointed a new Grand Master for the Endor Jedi Order, and the Tree Tower Village recruited many other warriors to assist them in their cause.

[edit] Summons

Owen Kenobi contacted Jacen Solo and Tenel Ka in their sleep after a devastating battle on Rhen Var. Jacen was unable to convince the captain of the "Star Destroyer" to put the ship on the course of Endor, and Jacen and Tenel Ka faked a deadly criticality in the Assault Ship's reactor, and forced everyone to evacuate. Jacen and Tenel Ka diverted the ship back to Endor and found an eager Ewok army, with the few that could speak Basic say that they volunteered service to the New Republic.

The ordeal, when the Jedi Knights returned, got them into trouble, for Jacen and Tenel Ka were accused of defying authorities and betraying the New Jedi Order and the New Republic. Owen Kenobi appeared to the Jedi Council as a Force-Ghost, explaining their motives, and the three-fourths of the jury that consisted of Jedi declared that they were innocent.

[edit] Battle of Thule

Owen Kenobi appeared on Thule when the bridge between the real world and the netherworld of the Force was forged by Anakin Solo, and he fought with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Darth Infineus's Quantum-class Hypertransport. Owen Kenobi bade farewell to the Endorian Jedi Order, which had been led by Jacen Solo and Tenel Ka on the ground to fight the Nightsisters, and declared that they had the choice to either join the New Jedi Order, or remain loyal to Endor and fight for their peoples. The answers were mixed, and Endor received returning heroes, while the Jedi Praxeum welcomed trained warriors.

[edit] Abilities

Owen Kenobi, Jr. mastered telekinesis, and was gifted mostly in communication. His prominence with moving objects with his mind allowed him to interact with the real universe even as a Force-ghost, and could maneuver a lightsaber with his thought. When Owen Kenobi crashed on Endor, he quickly learned the Ewoks' language with his ability to understand messages of all tongues.

Though radically gifted in learning languages and silently communicating, Owen was almost oblivious to effective Jedi Mind Tricks. He had never received a vision from the Force, besides seeing the deceased Obi-Wan Kenobi appear to teach him.

[edit] Lightsaber Combat

Owen Kenobi, having been taught by his uncle, Obi-Wan in ghost form, learned Form III: Soresu as his first form of lightsaber combat. Obi-Wan Kenobi also taught his nephew the usage of Form V: Djem So against bulkier enemies, which Owen used later against Goraxes.

Owen Kenobi used both forms of lightsaber combat against Darth Artoo.

[edit] Behind the Scenes

  • Owen Kenobi Senior is a canon character, mentioned in the Jedi Apprentice series as Obi-Wan's brother in a short sentence.
  • Owen Kenobi was created by C3PO the Dragon Slayer.
  • Originally, the concept of the warrior on Endor was a Rebel Soldier who had been separated from the strike force that destroyed the shield generator for the Death Star II. The idea was quickly changed to the character being a Jedi of a different origin than that of Luke Skywalker's academy.
