Niko Bellic was a human male Separatist and later Rebel Alliance Special Operations officer, as well as the leader of Zapad, a criminal organization. Born on the Wild Space planet of Aslava, Niko grew up in hardship due to the Aslavan civil war. In 24 BBY, Niko was drafted by the Aslavan gendarme as a child soldier and was part of a regional militia. He survived the conflict for the last two years of it, and to escape the planet, he joined the Confederacy of Independent Systems when a contingent of the Separatist Droid Army came to Aslava.
As a sort of mercenary, he took part in the Clone Wars as a colonel in the Separatist Army. When the conflict ended with Order 66, Niko went underground and started Zapad, a criminal organization which ran numerous illegal operations. When the Alliance to Restore the Republic was founded, the organization heavily aided them, and Niko was given a captain rank in the Alliance Special Operations.
