The New Galactic Republic was a democratic, federal republic, and was the Galaxy's central government.
History[]
Post-War Recovery[]
Following the defeat and subsequent retreat of the majority of First Order forces, the New Republic Remnant and the Resistance moved quickly to reunite the Galaxy. The chaos caused by the Hosnian Cataclysm made this extremely difficult, as numerous crime syndicates, warlords, and pirates had taken advantage of the lack of a central government, taking or pillaging entire systems. The New Republic, after integrating the forces of the Resistance into a revived New Republic Military, eventually dealt with these threats and resettled on Chandrila. New senators were elected by planets who pledged their support to the Republic’s revival, and Midas Drast was elected Chancellor.
Shadow War[]
The New Republic needed to regain the faith and loyalty of the Galaxy, and found a way once the Shadow War began. Multiple crime syndicates and families united to form a new Shadow Collective and began brutally expanding across Wild Space and the Outer Rim. The New Republic declared war and the Galactic Defense Force faced its first true test as a military. The Shadow Collective was driven back to the edges of the Outer Rim and forced to surrender. The Galaxy then recognized the return of the New Republic and countless worlds applied for admission into the Senate.
Government and politics[]
Legislative branch[]
The New Republic Senate remained the unicameral decision-making and governing body of the New Republic, but was renamed the Galactic Senate. Senators were elected by member worlds and held seats in the Senate, resolving issues and disputes based on a majority vote.
Executive branch[]
Judicial branch[]
The Galactic Court replaced the New Republic Tribunal as the primary upholders and interpreters of the laws of the Republic. The Court dealt with crimes such as treason and terrorism, while local and planetary courts dealt with crimes such as theft and murder.
Economy[]
The New Republic used the Republic Credit as their official currency, and it was accepted on all member worlds and colonies.

Military[]
The Galactic Defense Force was the military arm of the New Republic. It consisted of an army, a navy, and many special forces and sub-units. Due to a massive rearmament campaign, the Galactic Defense Force numbered hundreds of thousands of ships and millions of personnel and soldiers by the beginning of the Intergalactic War. The Galactic Defense Force was overseen by Republic Defense Command, also known as RepDefCom.
Astrography[]
By the time of the Intergalactic War, the New Republic either presided over or was allied with most of the Galaxy. The Chiss Ascendancy provided the Republic with maps of the Unknown Regions to aid in its colonization initiative, while the Killik Colony, bitter over their defeat during the Swarm War, severed all ties to the government. The Umbarans remained a secretive state, rarely attending Senate sessions.
