- "I'm not destined to be a farmer."
- —Narod Antrell[src]
Narod Antrell was a Human male Padawan of the Jedi Order born in 33 BBY on the Outer Rim world of Dantooine. He was the son of the farmers Malua and Radi Antrell, and lived with them until the Jedi Watchman Joraic'enlos took him at the age of three to Coruscant, where he joined the Jedi Order. As a youngling, he was placed in the Ascending Jedi Clan by Grand Master Yoda alongside his roommate Rikao. While with the Ascending Jedi, Narod developed a bond with his teacher and Jedi Knight Cinde Moun. She opted to have Narod become her personal apprentice, but was killed in 22 BBY, during the Battle of Geonosis that began the Clone Wars, before she could do so.
Since Narod was without a master by the age of thirteen, he was reassigned to service in the AgriCorps. Still, he continued his studies of the Force in secret until he escaped the AgriCorps and Coruscant by stowing away aboard a shuttle in 19 BBY, unknowingly, the same night the Great Jedi Purge began. Narod eventually arrived on Dantooine, where he befriended the cantina patrons Mayik Treno, Erroph, and Adoor, the latter whom he began working for at his cantina. He later helped his newfound friends assist Mayik in escaping Dantooine to return to his homeworld of Devaron, causing tension with the local gambling ring that Mayik owed debts to.
Narod remained safe, though, thanks to his friends' protection and also caught the attention of Jedi Master-in-hiding K'Kruhk, for his deed to Mayik, in the process. The Whiphid offered Narod apprenticeship after realizing the boy was Force-sensitive, which he agreed to. After bidding farewell to his friends, Narod ventured with K'Kruhk and his Jedi companion Chase Piru to the green moon, where only he and K'Kruhk remained to complete his Jedi training. There, K'Kruhk told Narod his most important trial would be facing oneself; sometime later, Narod encountered a dark-sided apparition, one he had unwittingly created with his own mind, in the nearby Phydah Forest and conquered it.

Biography
Early life
- Radi Antrell: "Son, do you want to be a Jedi?"
- Narod Antrell: "I dunno, Daddy."
- ―Radi and Narod Antrell[src]
Narod Antrell was a Human male born on the Outer Rim Territories planet of Dantooine in 33 BBY, on the date Kelona 23. Narod lived with his parents Malua and Radi Antrell on their farm until he reached the age of three, in 30 BBY, when the Jedi Master and Watchman Joraic'enlos came to Dantooine and took him in to the Jedi Order. Initially, Narod's parents had been reluctant to let him go to Coruscant for training, but eventually relented. Instead, it had been Narod who later regretted the decision, who, as he grew, had little recollection of that day or his parents, only clearly recalling that he had been promised he would become a Jedi.[1]
Jedi Initiate
Upon arriving on the Core World of Coruscant, Narod was taken by the Twi'lek Joraic'enlos to meet the Jedi Grand Master Yoda, who inducted him into the Jedi Order as a Jedi Initiate. Immediately afterward, Narod was taken to his room in the Jedi Temple, Jenth-313, where he roomed with the Rodian youngling Rikao, from whom he eventually learned to understand the Rodese language. As a youngling, Narod was assigned to the Ascending Jedi Clan, learning his basic training from Yoda himself in the years that followed.[1]
In 23 BBY, the Jedi Knight Cinde Moun, hoping to ascend to the rank of a Master, was assigned to head the Ascending Jedi, taking over Yoda's duties as their teacher. During this, Moun was hoping to find a youngling suitable to become her personal Padawan, whom she would eventually have to successfully trained in order to ascend in rank. During her tenure with the youngling clan, Moun kept close watch on Narod, with the two developing a relationship together over the following months. Eventually, by 22 BBY, Moun told Narod that she wanted him to become her Padawan, although not until after she completed a mission with Jedi High Councilman Mace Windu, as part of the strike team for the planet Geonosis.[1]
Moun was killed, however, in the Battle of Geonosis, which began the galactic-wide conflict known as the Clone Wars. Joraic'enlos, who had also done battle on Geonosis and survived, personally delivered the news to Narod in the following days, leaving the youngling heartbroken and without a master. If a youngling did not become a Padawan by the age of thirteen, they would be reassigned and instead serve the Jedi in their Service Corps; this was the case for Narod after he reached the age limit, and was transferred to the Agricultural Corps division on Coruscant.[1]
Agricultural Corps
- "It wasn't always like this. My life should've been different..."
- —Narod Antrell[src]
When Narod was reassigned to the AgriCorps, he did by his duty, doing all he was told by the overseers in his division. However, in secret, he continued to study the Force, unwilling to give up the many years he trained at the Jedi Temple and under Moun. With the help of the overseer Jambe Lu, who had access to the Jedi Archives in the temple, Narod resumed his studies, privately and on his own time, through flimsiplast manuscripts. Part of Narod's inspiration to continue his studies was the hope he held to someday become a Jedi after all, whether he had been selected or not, and help in their war effort. As well, Narod witnessed the Battle of Coruscant in 19 BBY, one of the major battles between the Galactic Republic and the opposing Confederacy of Independent Systems in the Clone Wars, including viewing the Separatist-flagship Invisible Hand crash land into Galactic City from afar.[1]
Also during his time in the AgriCorps, Narod befriended a boy named Memo, a fellow unselected Jedi Initiate. Unlike Narod, however, Memo no longer had faith in the Jedi way or the Force. Due to his desire to be more than a farmer, Narod hoped to escape from the AgriCorps, and, if possible, Coruscant. He developed a plan that was mocked by Memo, although he had no doubt in himself, especially not after sensing disturbances in the Force, which he did not understand but sensed were troubling. Before initiating his plan, Narod was badgered by the Twi'lek overseer Andas'alom, who ordered him to do his farmer's work. This allowed Narod to put his plan in motion, planting crops around a scarefauna, a humanoid figure made of straw hay and garbed in clothing, that he built for the purpose of a decoy.[1]
When the crops grew tall enough to hide him within, Narod made his escape that night, running towards the Coruscant Undercity; unknowingly, he escaped the same night the Great Jedi Purge began. Narod slept in an airspeeder to recover his strength, and eventually made his way to a local undercity spaceport. Before arriving, however, Narod viewed the HoloNet News, learning of the so-called Jedi Rebellion and learning of the newly-declared First Galactic Empire, which shocked him. In search of transportation off the planet, Narod stowed away aboard a shuttle in its storage compartment, using the Force to control his breathing in order to survive the low-oxygen room. Unconcerned where he was traveling to as long as he was off-world, Narod was unknowingly taken to Dantooine, his birth-world.[1]
Ventures on Dantooine
- "You were a good garbage boy. I'm sure you'll be an even greater Jedi."
- —Adoor to Narod Antrell[src]
When the shuttle carrying Narod came to Dantooine, it landed in the local spaceport of the city of Tillaj. Narod had fallen asleep, though, and was not awoken until the Devaronian cargo worker Mayik Treno found him in the back of the compartment. Treno was surprised by someone's presence in the cargo hold, and subsequently conversed with the boy. Narod, knowing he had to start a new life and leave all previous ties behind, asked Treno for help in finding work, to which the Devaronian agreed. Once Treno was done with his shift, he promised to take Narod to Adoor's Cantina, the local cantina where he knew could find the boy work. Under the alias of "Draegan," taken from a name he had used in his childhood playtime, Antrell complied and traveled with the Devaronian.[1]
Once at the cantina, Narod was introduced to Adoor, the Peripleen owner of his namesake cantina, and Erroph, the Snivvian friend of Treno and Adoor. The Devaronian proposed Narod working under Adoor, to which the Peripleen agreed to, knowing he would be more competent than his LD-series worker droids; as such, Narod was assigned as the head of the garbage crew. He worked for Adoor for over six months, developing a strong relationship with his boss and new friends. When Narod was given news that Treno was in trouble with Bronoge's Gamble, a local gambling racket, he quickly agreed to help Adoor and Erroph in their plan to set the Devaronian free from his debt by getting him off-world, happy to comply since Treno had helped him start his life on Dantooine.[1]
After Treno was told of the escape plan, the Devaronian agreed to it and readied for his escape. Narod's role was to drive Treno to the spaceport by using his repulsorlift Class-725 garbagecraft, carrying him in the truck bed and concealing him under garbage composites. When their plan was executed, Narod did as planned and drove Treno the spaceport, getting him past the security detail; since Treno owed Bronoge, spaceport and racket boss, thousands of credits, Treno was never allowed beyond the arrivals port, where he worked. Narod took the cloaked Treno through the spaceport lounge to departures, although they were spotted by the guards Arn and Joss. Narod urged Treno to continue while he provided distraction; he used the Force, for the first time offensively, to attack the two guards, prompting them to chase him. While Treno escaped, Narod drove the guards away from him and eventually escaped, too, by using a Force Push to break a window to flee from.[1]
Narod returned to his garbagecraft and left the spaceport, passing the gate guards who were oblivious to the occurring situation, watching the shuttle carrying Treno, piloted by Erroph's friend and pilot Rinald, his connection in the spaceport, depart from Dantooine. Meanwhile, similarly, the Whiphid Jedi Master-in-hiding K'Kruhk witnessed the transpiring events at the spaceport, taking an interest in training Narod in the ways of the Jedi, having previously believed such an opportunity would never arise again due to the Purge. The Jedi Master was able to locate Narod at Adoor's Cantina, and, while he was celebrating with Adoor and Erroph in the private room, he was called out by K'Kruhk and formally introduced. Having recognized his name as that of the Jedi Master, Narod befriended K'Kruhk and took up on his offer to train under him.[1]
After agreeing to join K'Kruhk, Narod performed his final shift at Adoor's Cantina before preparing to get off-world with him. Bronoge had different plans, however, and had ordered Arn and Joss to kidnap the boy during the night and bring him in for interrogation; the two guards eventually planned to kill him. They did not succeed, though, as Adoor had anticipated their arrival and had his head serving droid 1-Z33 drug the two guards' drinks with hypnocane, which knocked them unconscious. Adoor had plans of his own, capturing the two guards and, alongside Erroph, had planned on feeding them to the native kath hounds. K'Kruhk intervened, however, and was able to persuade Adoor to allow him to handle the situation; instead of killing them, the Whiphid Force Persuaded Arn to confess his crimes and those of his boss into a holorecorder, then took both guards into Tillaj Defense Unit custody.[1]
Path to Knighthood
- "You must let go of everything. You must forget the past."
- —K'Kruhk to Narod Antrell[src]
The morning after his final shift, Narod had finished packing his few possessions when he learned from Adoor that Bronoge and his racket had been taken down by the Defense Unit, and told the boy that it had been K'Kruhk who had obtained the sufficient evidence for the raid at the spaceport. After the Peripleen inquired more on the identity of K'Kruhk, Narod, realizing he could wholly trust Adoor, confessed to him his true name and his previous role as a Jedi, and how he was going to receive training from K'Kruhk to achieve Jedi Knighthood. Adoor promised to keep the information secret, and later only told Erroph about it. By the end of the day, K'Kruhk's starship arrived at the spaceport and he told Narod to meet him there, which the boy did.[1]
While waiting, Narod met the Defense Unit patrolman Jerr Adoh, to whom he suggested that Adoor be appointed the head of the spaceport, a position that had become vacated with Bronoge's arrest, to which the patrolman agreed. Immediately after, Narod attempted to meditate while he waited, but was disturbed when a woman named Chase Piru broke his concentration. She introduced herself as K'Kruhk's pilot, and, although suspicious at first, Narod trusted the woman and followed her to the Theta-class shuttle she came to Dantooine on. Once inside, while putting away his things, Narod accidentally discovered a lightsaber, suspecting it to be K'Kruhk's, and tried to hide his discovery from Piru. When the woman infiltrated Narod's mind with the Force, he believed her to be a Jedi Hunter until she told him that she, too, was a Jedi.[1]
Narod spent a short time learning levitation from Piru, until K'Kruhk met them onboard the ship with the supplies he planned to take with Narod. Once ready, Piru took her seat as the pilot and took the shuttle off Dantooine, heading for the Outer Rim Territories as instructed by K'Kruhk. After the ship entered hyperspace, Narod expressed his eagerness to learn to K'Kruhk, and was later given a basic instruction on flying spacecraft by Piru. The lesson was cut short, however, when the ship reached its destination, the green moon. Since it was uncharted, K'Kruhk kept its location secret and only planned to take Jedi trainees, like Narod, to the world. The Whiphid and Piru only had knowledge of the world because they had previously been stranded there after a crash landing following their escape from the Inner Rim Territories world of Bogden 3, where they had responded to Order 66, which deemed all Jedi traitors, before escaping on their vessel.[1]
After leaving K'Kruhk and Narod on the moon, Piru left and returned to the group of younglings, who had survived the Purge alongside her and K'Kruhk, in another Outer Rim world. Once on the surface of the moon, Narod and K'Kruhk camped out, beginning their first lessons together immediately. The most important one, as K'Kruhk mentioned, would eventually be the Trial of the Spirit, where Antrell would have to face the mirror, meaning himself. As the two settled in what they knew would be their new home for some time, K'Kruhk instructed Narod on separating himself from the world he previously knew, which included the technology he carried and the teachings of his past, in order to succeed as a Jedi Knight.[1]
Duel in the Phydah Forest
- Narod Antrell: "Who are you?"
- The Apparition: "I am the one you summoned."
- ―The apparition to Narod Antrell[src]
At some point after his Jedi training began, Narod sought solitude in the Phydah Forest of the green moon. Once he entered it, he searched for the best place to meditate until he found it. His meditation was interrupted, however, when a dark-sided Force Vision confronted him, which led to a duel between the two. The Jedi trainee was nearly bested during the duel, but was able to overcome the Phydah apparition in hand-to-hand combat and use the Force to emerge victorious. Questions pertaining to the apparition, though, remained mostly unanswered, and Narod only knew that it had been he, through his mind, who had summoned the darksider.[3]
Personality and traits
- "Why do I blame you, Cinde? I'm sorry Master."
- —Narod Antrell expressing guilt over his anger[src]
As a young child, Narod Antrell was naive, displaying this when he believed going to the Jedi Order was the best thing to do and soon after regretting it. Prior to Cinde Moun's death, the Jedi Knight had noted that Narod was a troubled young boy, and personally believed only she could successfully train him at the time. Eventually Narod remained confident and ambitious after Moun's death, determined to become a Jedi even after being placed in the Service Corps. He did, however, express anger at not having been selected, although also expressed guilt over that anger. Narod never believed, though, that he was meant to be anything other than a Jedi. After the Great Jedi Purge began, he was cautious in his actions, preventing others from knowing his real name or purpose, as he did by taking on the pseudonym Draegan. Still, Narod kept true to those close to him and was able to wholly trust them.[1]
Antrell also enjoyed solitude whenever possible, as he had sought in the Phydah Forest to relieve himself of the stress of the tremors in the Force. In the subsequent duel that followed later that day, however, Antrell seemingly enjoyed the thrill of battle and was both confident and cocky in combat.[3]
Powers and abilities
- "Is that it?"
- —Narod Antrell, confident in his abilities[src]
Narod Antrell showed promise when he was first inducted into the Jedi Order, prompting Jedi Master Joraic'enlos to express his confidence in Narod to Yoda. He was unable to reach his full potential, however, when he was first in the Order due to his reassignment, although he kept studying and meditating with the Force. During that time, Narod was able to sense the emotions of others and disturbances in the Force, even if he did not fully understand them. After coming to Dantooine, he continued to use the Force for that purpose, as he did with Adoor and Mayik Treno at times. When Antrell assisted in liberating Treno, he displayed his strength with the Force offensively for the first time, using telekinesis to attack guards with baggage and, later, break a window to escape from. However, having little training and experience in such actions, Antrell was exhausted by the use.[1]
After Narod's Jedi training began, he demonstrated his abilities as a duelist versus the apparition that attacked him in the Phydah Forest, and was confident in those abilties even though he appeared clumsy in his motions. He was also able to use the Force to claim victory at the end of the duel.[3]
Behind the scenes
Narod Antrell was originally created as an article for Star Wars Fanon, the Star Wars wiki of fan invention, in October 2006 by author Victor Dorantes.[4] During its tenure as only an article without narrative sources, the Narod Antrell article garnered attention and popularity on the wiki. It eventually gained featured status in the December following its creation, and was showcased on the wiki's Main Page in January 2007.[5][6] The article went on to win numerous awards in the wiki's annual awards, winning four times in three ceremonies.[7]
Beginning in 2009, Dorantes started to develop the character of Narod Antrell in his eBook novel titled Acceptance, which primarily focuses on Narod Antrell at the start of the Imperial Period. Acceptance was later established as part of The Antrell Epoch duology, when its sequel, Deliverance, was announced.[8] As a follow up to Dorantes's works, collectively titled the Squishy Vic Series, Dorantes, also in 2009, began working on a project titled The Essential Guide to the Squishy Vic Series, an eBook reference book to his series. Similarly, Dorantes also published an essay entitled Into the Realm of Star Wars speaking of Antrell's origins, and has blogged about the character on StarWars.com.[9] Dorantes has also worked musically with the character, putting together a theme song for him titled "Epitome of My Training" for SVS: The Soundtrack, the soundtrack to his series of work.[10]
Dorantes began production for Antrell's story after discovering that an unidentified Padawan had been taken in by K'Kruhk from the 2005 reference book The New Essential Chronology; Antrell, in Dorantes's fiction, fulfilled that role. After that, Dorantes developed ideas for Antrell through his article, which were, eventually, loosely integrated into Acceptance. Dorantes also made homage to himself with the character, making their birthdays fall on the same date, the 58th day of the year; February 27 for Dorantes, making it Kelona 23 for Antrell.[2]
Name
The name "Narod Antrell" was conceived by Dorantes in late-2004, but did not appear on the internet until the following year. The name appeared in numerous role playing games that Dorantes participated in on the Jedi Council Forums of TheForce.Net, a Star Wars-based website. Firstly, Narod appeared as a surname to "Roviik Narod" in a game titled The Star Wars, and "Narod Antrell" later appeared in a game titled The Galaxy at War Part III: Schism of the Sith, in November of that year. The name itself, however, was originally one of the top contending names for Dorantes to choose from for his primary character; among the others included Roviik, which was later given to Antrell's son, and Dorvi Ma'los, which was instead given to a supporting character in Acceptance.[11][9] The name comes from two sources; Narod from Dorantes when written backward, and Antrell from the surname Cantrell.[2]
Portrayal
Narod Antrell was originally portrayed by images of Dorantes that were not intended for the character, rather images taken beforehand, when he was first created on the Star Wars Fanon wiki. Shortly after, however, Dorantes acquired a custom-made Jedi tunic, using it that Halloween to portray Antrell as a Jedi Knight.[2] The costume, which was completed by Halloween, was custom ordered by Dorantes in the weeks prior to the holiday, and was modeled after Mace Windu's tunic.[12] Dorantes subsequently wore the costume for Halloween 2007 and has worn it numerous times for pictures of Antrell. Dorantes has stated that he regrettably did not wear the costume when he attended Celebration IV, the 2007 Star Wars convention in Los Angeles, California, regardless of originally planning to do so.[13][14] Also, although Antrell is officially stated to stand at 1.7 meters (5 feet 7 inches) in height, Dorantes himself is actually 1.6 meters (5 feet 3 inches) in height.[2]
Dorantes portrayed Antrell, in live-action for the first time, in the short-lived web series The Darkness of Phydah, created by Dorantes, which was composed of two short episodes. Dorantes wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the episodes, both which were uploaded to YouTube.[3] The series was canceled by Dorantes after he could not produce the episodes to his desired satisfaction, also stating dissatisfaction with his portrayal of Antrell. Regardless, the web series stands as canon in Dorantes's series of work.[15]
Although unofficial or non-canon, there have been other depictions of Narod Antrell created both by Dorantes and others. Before the Narod Antrell article was created, Dorantes participated in a role playing game in August 2006 titled Knights of the Old Republic 3: The Beginning of the End, where Antrell was a male depiction of the Jedi Exile from the video game Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords; in it, Dorantes depicted Antrell as one of the selectable player characters, which stuck with him for the official depiction of Antrell for a short while after before getting discarded.[12][2]
Other, later depictions of Antrell originated at Star Wars Fanon, when author Andrew Barton, under the username Drewton on the wiki, used the facial features of Dorantes as a mask for computer gaming modifications. Dorantes's skin was overlayed on the player character from The Sith Lords, which Barton originally intended to be Antrell, to create numerous images; instead, though, the images became depictions of Roviik, Narod's son, because Barton believed them to more closely resemble an adult Roviik instead.[16] Later, Barton returned to his modifications and worked on a skin for Antrell in the video game Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, using Dorantes's pictures to closely resemble the character.[17] Barton did the modifications on his own accord, and has stated he is a fan of Narod Antrell, considering him a memorable character.[18]
Another unofficial depiction of Antrell originated with Dorantes himself, after he created an article titled "Nimrod Anthill" on Darthipedia, the Star Wars humor wiki. There, Dorantes parodies his own character and his story, for which he also took new pictures specifically for it.[19]
