Masr was a planet in the Outer Rim Territories, and a possible home planet of Humans.

Geography[]

Masr was a planet composed almost completely of desert, except for a few rivers running from the large ranges of red mountains which dotted the landscape, a small ocean in the west and the few dotted oases which so many crime lords had set up secret bases next to. The highest point was Aruu sanSagar, a titanic mound of red-orange rock which many believed housed another sentient species. Small kingdoms of Masr'u, a possible indigenous species, ran along almost every river. The buildings which the Masr'u built were almost all made of mud bricks, the easiest substance to obtain in the harsh climate.

Masr was a possible homeworld of both humans and Masr'u. This was believed because the Masr'u were incredibly disdainful of technology, happy with what they had. Because of this, it was unlikely that they had ever used space travel, so couldn't have arrived on the planet, only been indigenous. As tests proved that the Masr'u were almost certainly an adaptation of baseline humans to Masr's climate, this would mean that Humans were native to Masr, and had chosen to leave after discovering space travel, but one group stayed behind to become the Masr'u. However, this is not definite, and could just be untrue speculation.

In around 2,500 BBY, Masr was discovered by the republic, but ignored due to the local sentients being 'primitive'. After this, many crime lords set up hideouts near the oases on the planet so that they could escape from the republic if they ever needed to. Jabba Desilijic Tiure was one such crime lord.

The Masr'u, who arguably owned the planet, had it divided up into several kingdoms, each of which ran along one of the planet's many rivers. Some of these kingdoms had sold their land to a crime lord in return for a supply of goods such as spice and slaves. These were still allowed to live on their land but were property of the crime lord, meaning that they weren't exactly slaves, as they were entitled to own their own possessions and had some rights, but had to perform certain tasks in the crime lord's service if s/he so wished. These tasks could be: Farming, hunting, fighting, building or preparing food; but could not be anything else. The Masr who didn't sell their land remained undisturbed by the outside world for all time.
