- "They will know, Mandalore belongs to the Mandalorians" - Jango Fett, Mand'alor the Reborn
The Mandalorian Union is the united front of all Mandalorian clans, factions and people from across the galaxy, all of whom have been fully united behind Jango Fett, aka, Mand'alor the Reborn. The Mandalorian Union consists of Death Watch, New Mandalorians, survivors of the True Mandalorians, Mandalorian Knights, and more. The Mandalorian Union would go on to help fight the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) alongside the Galactic Republic for the rest of the Clone Wars, and after the Republic's reorganization into the Galactic Empire, the two former allies would become enemies during the Mando-Imperial War. They would go on to continue fighting the Empire in the resulting Second Galactic Cold War, and all the way to the Galactic Civil War and onward.
The Mandalorian ExcisionEdit
In the last millennia of the regime of the Galactic Republic, the warrior people of Mandalorian Space clashed with the Republic on numerous occasions, most notably in the Mandalorian Wars from 3,976 BBY to 3,960 BBY. After losing their leader, Mandalore the Ultimate, the Mandalorian warrior clans were disarmed and surrendered to the Republic, though they were left with a simmering resentment of the Republic and the Jedi Order that had defeated them. The Mandalorian warrior codes came to be followed only in Mandalorian Space, but it was not until the emergence of a new leader, Mandalore the Uniter, in 1,051 BBY that the Mandalorians began to reclaim stability in their lawless area of the galaxy. In a movement known as the Return, Mandalore the Uniter urged his fragmented people to strengthen and defend Mandalorian Space. They were thus able to survive the millennium-long New Sith Wars and grew to be a regional industrial power, safeguarding neighboring sectors and star systems from trouble while also advancing in technology and military strength. It was during this time that Mandalorian Space, primarily the Mandalorian homeworld of Mandalore, reached an apex in its military power.
As Mandalorian Space returned to galactic prominence as a rigidly disciplined society, the Republic, left weakened and splintered after the New Sith Wars, began to draw itself back together following the Ruusan Reformations of 1,000 BBY. The Republic's re-institutionalization of the Outer Rim Territories thus reopened conflict with Mandalorian Space. Although first seen as a much-needed source of stability, the Mandalorians—who had begun to tax commerce along the Hydian Way, were forcing economic and defense pacts onto bordering sectors, and disregarded the Republic's new defense force restrictions altogether—re-emerged as a threat to the Republic. Some pro-peace clan leaders believed that Mandalorian Space should join the Republic as one of its most powerful and influential sectors, as they had no chance of winning a direct engagement with the Republic. Nevertheless, the Mandalorians' overall position was resoundingly for continued independence, as popular opinion held that non-warrior Mandalorians could not claim to be Mandalorians at all. That mindset prevailed for several centuries, until the Republic and the Jedi Order decided to move preemptively against the ever-resistant Mandalorians.
In the year 738 BBY, the Republic authorized the creation of a task force to assault Mandalorian Space and remove the threat of the Mandalorians as an opposing power. The Republic's Judicial Forces were called in alongside units from various Planetary Security Forces of the Expansion Region, with members of the Jedi Order serving as commanders for the war effort. The Jedi led their troops to Mandalorian Space, striking at key Mandalorian worlds such as Fenel, Ordo, and Concord Dawn, as well as Mandalore itself. In the battles that followed, the targeted planets of Mandalorian Space were crippled with devastating bombardment by the Republic forces, creating barren deserts of white sand from entire regions of the planetary surfaces. Having lacked from the start any hope of repelling a Republic attack, the Mandalorian clans were defeated, with the Jedi–Republic forces claiming victory in the conflict.
The Clan Chieftain CouncilEdit
The Mandalorian Excision, as the short but brutal war came to be known, left Mandalorian Space crippled by the Republic and the Jedi Order. In a move that would last for decades, the Republic occupied and disarmed Mandalorian Space, establishing a loyal caretaker government for the sector from remnants of the pro-Republic peace movement from before the war. The occupation of Mandalore birthed a schism in ideology within Mandalorian society: in opposition to the warrior clans rose the pacifistic New Mandalorians from the caretaker government. Resenting the Republic but seeing no benefit to continued opposition, the New Mandalorians renounced the ages-old warrior codes for nonviolence and neutrality in an effort to save their ravaged homeworld. They triumphed over the warrior clans, holding most positions of power and gaining rule of Mandalorian Space itself.
However, this was far from the end of the Mandalorian's warrior ways. In truth, it was just a new beginning.
After the excision, ten Mandalorian Warrior clan leaders convened at the original Mandalorian capital of Keldabe, where they began their own secret plans to rebuild the strength and honor of the Mandalorians that the Republic and Jedi took away from them out of their own fears. These ten major warrior clans, along with multiple other smaller clans, formed the Mandalorian Clan Chieftain Council. The ten major clans who founded the Council were Clans Takeo, Trac, Awaud, Ordo, Kryze, Vevut, Spar, Varad, Jendri, and Jeban. There were also many other smaller clans among their numbers, including Beviin, Bralor, Cadera, Carid, Detta, Farr, Lok, Lone, Rodarch, Sornell, Tal'rang, Tenau, and Vizsla. These clans began to rebuild their power, however they did so in secret, and away from the watchful eyes of the Republic and the Jedi.
Growing in SecretEdit
As the New Mandalorians began their self-destructive pacifist ways, the Clan Chieftain Council clans began to rebuild and prepare for the day the New Mandalorian government collapsed upon itself. The head of the Chieftain Council, Akaan Trac, began seeking out ways to increase the Mandalorian's fighting strength without the Republic or Jedi catching on. Thanks to the Ruusan Reformation, many vessels, weapons and other forms of equipment which use to belong to the Galactic Republic's military, were being taken and sold to Planetary Defense Forces, on the Black Market, anywhere for reasonably cheap prices. These old republic vessels and equipment were used for a large part of the Council's new armed forces. However, the Council knew they needed newer, more advanced, and capable weapons, ships, droids and so on for their military forces.
Discovering the FoundryEdit
The first major boon to the Council's power came from the Farr Clan. They had acquired an ancient Jedi Holocron from nearly 4000 years ago, dating back to the Great Galactic War between the Resurgent Sith Empire, and the Galactic Republic. The Holocron belonged to none other than the famous/infamous Grey Jedi Knight Revan, and inside the Holocron were the Coordinates to the ancient Rakata droid factory, the Foundry, at Lannik Space.
The Council sent a force to investigate and retrieve the Foundry. Most of the station was abandoned after the Great Galactic war, leaving it defenseless for when the Mandalorians retook it. Upon acquiring the Foundry, they began to retool, and modify the asteroid station for new purposes. Within 100 years time, the Foundry had been refitted to manufacture more than just Droids, but also Starships, Weapons, Equipment, and more out of nearby asteroids. However, though this solved many of their problems, they still had a very noticeable lack of Man power, even with all of the Mandalorian Clans who remained loyal to the true warrior path of the Mandalorians.
The Mandalorian KnightsEditOnce again, however, luck was on the Mandalorian's side. During an exploration mission in the Unknown Regions of space, a Mandalorian Vessel stumbled across the Rakatan Archipelago. Upon arrival, they discovered a small but powerful organization of Mandalorians, descendants of Mandalorians who did not surrender to the Republic at the end of the Mandalorian Wars 4,000 years prior. But the true shocker of this organization, was the discovery of the Mandalorian Knights, an order of Force-Sensitive Mandalorians who were descended from Dorjander Kace's followers who defected to the Mandalorian's side during the Mandalorian Wars, and fought with them. They had been leading the Mandalorians of the Archipelago, where they discovered several new planets, including one named 'New Mandalore', where they discovered members of the once believed extinct Taung race, the original Mandalorians, still alive and growing.</p>
The Mandalorian Knights, and their forces were graciously welcomed into the Clan Chieftain Council, where their forces were united, once again providing a massive boon to the Mandalorian's growing strength.
The Rebirth of the Star ForgeEditAfter making their alliance with the Mandalorian Knights, unifying the Mandalorians with the Council, the Knights revealed to them one of their most secretive projects, one which they have been working on for nearly 2,000 years. After the New Sith Wars had ended, the Mandalorian Knights had traced down the steps of Revan, visiting the planets of Dantooine, Kashyyyk, Manan, Tatooine, and Korriban for the ultimate goal: The re-discovery of the forgotten world of Rakata Prime, also known as Lehon.
Upon arrival at Lehon, the Knights discovered the ruined wrecks of the old Republic and Sith warships which remained after the final battle of the Jedi Civil War, as well as the remains of the Star Forge itself. For those years after, the Knights have been rebuilding the Star Forge, using the debris of all of the fallen vessels, as well as the remains of the original Star Forge, to recreate it. Unlike before however, the new Star Forge, named the Star Forge II, was considered more powerful than the original for several reasons. The first and foremost: The Star Forge II, like the original, could absorb energy and power through the Force. However unlike its predecessor, the Star Forge II draws power from both the Dark and the Light sides of the force, rather than being solely dependent on the Dark Side.
With both the Star Forge II, and the Foundry under their control, the Mandalorians of the council and the Knights began to grow greatly in strength. With both super-stations, they begin manufacturing warships, vehicles, droids, weapons, and more. And with several worlds secretly allied to them, plus the planets of the Rakatan Archipelago, and Lehon, the Mandalorians grew astonishingly fast.
The Discovery of Atlantia
As the Mandalorians continued to grow, the Foundry and Star Forge II continued to provide ships, vehicles and other necessary equipment for combat, as well as simple construction droids for creating new cities on Lehon and other newly discovered worlds. However one problem was begining to present itself: Manpower. Despite all they have done, the Mandalorians still lacked the large amounts of warriors, fighters, and so on they had before the Excision. Even with the Mandalorian Knights and their own forces, they had so many vessels that they could not even use due to the lack of Ship crews, soldiers, and so on.However, once again, they found the answer they were looking for. Around 100 BBY, after a miscalculated hyperspace jump, a Mandalorian scout vessel stumbled across a planet in wild space, the Tropical world of Atlantia. It was colonized by the Kaminoans many centuries ago, and was well developed, expecially thanks to their own cloning facilities. However they were being harassed by a local pirate organization, and in dire need of assistance. Thankfully though, the Mandalorians provided the Kaminoans the protection they needed, as they destroyed the gang of pirates. The Mandalorians and Kaminoans soon entered an agreement and an alliance: In exchange for protection, the Kaminoans will create the Mandalorian's their own Clone Armies.
Soon, the first wave of Clones were being born, several Mandalorians volunteered to become DNA donors for the Clones, men, women, humans, aliens, it didn't matter. Some of the Clones were created using the DNA from famous Mandalorian's from the past such as Shae Vizsla and Canderous Ordo, acquired thanks to the Mandalorian Knights. However, unlike their later GAR counterparts, the Mandalorian Clone Army is different in many ways.
First, was that the Mandalorian Clones were not genetically altered to be docile, obedient, or possess any behavior modifications. The Mandalorians wanted the Clones to be independent, to be able to make their own choices, wanting soldiers, not Droids. The second difference was the age accelerators. Unlike the Kaminoian's who trained the GAR, the Atlantian Kaminoians wanted the Clones to be able to serve for as long as possible. Hence, they created the anti-aging serum, which upon the Clone reaching maturity, cancels the accelerated aging process, allowing the Clones to have now normal full lives. It is thanks to these combined factors: the Clones, the Star Forge, and the Foundry, that the Clan Council and their clans grew to such heights in such short time.
Mandalorian Civil WarEdit
Accepting the TorchEditAround 60 BBY, the Mandalorians back home showed additional signs of fragmenting, as the True Mandalorians and Death Watch were formed, lead by Mand'alor Jaster Mereel and Overlord Tor Vizsla respectively. Jaster Mereel and his True Mandalorians followed the new 'Mandalorian SuperCommando Codex', which outlined new and proper Mandalorian behavior, wishing to turn the Mandalorians to more Honorable Mercenaries, rather than merciless raiders or bandits. The idea behind the Codex inspired the Clan council, as they adopted the codex into their own government. Although the council themselves stayed neutral and out of the fighting to avoid being discovered by the Republic, they gave secret support to the True Mandalorians, including sending some of their own men and women to fight for the True Mandalorians as new recruits.
After the Battle of Korda 6, Jaster Mereel was Killed In Action, after the betrayal of Montross, his second in command, while his adoptive son Jango Fett, became the new Mand'alor. However, Galik Trac, a Mandalorian of the Clan Council, wished for Jaster's Legacy to live on, as he acquired some samples of the fallen Mand'alor's DNA, and proceeded to include Jaster Mereel clones in the next Generation of Mandalorian Clones.
Then, came the Battle of Galidraan. The loss of the True Mandalorians to Death Watch trickery and the fooled Jedi task force was a large blow to the clan council, and after the battle they tried to find survivors. However thankfully, some survivors, including former Jedi-turned-True Mandalorians Aren and Sutura, were found during their search for Jango. The two were accepted into the Clan Council, while being adopted into the Takeo Clan. After the battle, the Clan Council unanimously agreed to keep the torch of the True Mandalorians burning, as they renamed themselves as the True Mandalorians.
Alliance with the LycansEditThree years before, the Blockade of Naboo began, the True Mandalorians discovered yet another planet along the fringes of wild space. It was a planet home to a race of wolf-like sentients, who were similar in appearance to the Shistavanen, who call themselves, Lycans. They were a Tribal people, however they had already reached the stars, thanks to a surprising ally they met thousands of years ago: The Taung. Before the old Sith Wars, the Taung visited the Lycan home world, and taught them the ways of Mandalorians, and supplied them with Mandalorian weapons, ships, and armor. When they left, the Lycan's began to grow slowly from their homeworld, reaching out to several other Star Systems.
When the True Mandalorians met with the Lycans, they were more than willing enough to become allies, to once again work side by side with the Mandalorians as a whole.
The Clone WarsEdit
The Shadow Collective attack on MandaloreEditDuring the height of the Clone Wars, the criminal organization known as the 'Shadow Collective', lead by the Zabrak Sith brothers Darth Maul and Savage Opress, plotted a takeover of Mandalore with Pre Vizsla, the current Overlord of the Death Watch Organization.
Maul's plan involved turning the Death Watch from criminals into heroes for the people, without whom it would be impossible to gain control of Mandalore. Maul's agents attacked New Mandalorian police forces in Sundari to show the weakness of the Duchess' government. Duchess Satine Kryze attempted to calm her people outside the palace, but Vizsla and the Death Watch then swooped in and intervened to "stop" the criminals, becoming heroes in the eyes of the Mandalorian people who started calling for change. Vizlsa deployed squads to stop the criminals and had Ziton Moj, Lom Pyke and Savage Opress arrested.
Vizsla soon arrested Satine Kryze, but when Maul arrived in the city, Vizsla informed Maul that he had no intention of spreading their success to the other 2,000 neutral systems. Maul was arrested by Vizsla's men, as he proceeded to claim the title of Mand'alor for himself. However, what neither he, the Sith, or anyone would ever expect, was the intervention of the True Mandalorians.
They began by sending in a small team to infiltrate the Death Watch, consisting of the children of Aren and Sutura Takeo, Jaden, Matthew, Amy, and Jaden's lover Riona Bandph. They acted as new recruits to the Death Watch, and met with Pre who informed them of their first mission: Investigate Concord Dawn for rumored Separatist Presence. Though they agreed to check it out, they also knew they needed to rescue the former Dutchess. However they knew that in order to do that, they needed the help of the local Sundari resistance.
Thankfully, they were informed of three likely locations where the Resistance could be found by former Cuy'val Dar Training Sergeant Mij Gilamar, who had come to Sundari to confirm the Death Watch had taken over. After pointing them in the right direction, he asked who they were, but becamed shocked when they said they were True Mandalorians, before disappearing.
While Matthew and Amy left Mandalore to investigate Concord Dawn for CIS movements, Jaden and Riona got in contact with the Resistance, lead by Satine's nephew Korkie and his friends, at the now abandoned Royal Academy. They agreed to work together to take control from Vizsla, however shortly after the meeting, news of Savage and Maul's escape reached them.
Escape of the Nite OwlsEditReacting immediately, Jaden and Riona headed to the Sundari Royal Palace by jet pack, and witnessed the final moments of the duel between Pre and Maul, and the former's execution by the Sith Lord. They then intervened to help Bo-Katan, Pre Vizsla's most trusted lieutenant, and her Nite Owl Squad escape from the palace from the rest of the Death Watch who now swore loyalty to Maul.
After successfully fleeing the Palace, Bo-Katan then learned of the survival of the True Mandalorians from Jaden and Riona. Much to the, now former, Death Watch Lieutenant's surprise.
They then regrouped at the Royal Academy, where Bo was reunited with her nephew, and joined the True Mandalorians to free Mandalore from the influence of the Sith, once and for all. This moment marked the beginning of the reunification of the Mandalorian people.
Second Mandalorian Civil War Edit
With the death of Vizsla, and Maul's ascension to Overlord of Death Watch and Mand'alor, with former New Mandalorian Prime Minister Almec as the face of the new leadership, the Sith Zabrak brothers soon began their plans to spread their influence. However, with the rescue of the Nite Owls, and the arming of the Resistance, the time had come for the True Mandalorians to take back Mandalore.
The Second Mandalorian Civil War had begun.
