[edit] Biography

[edit] Early life

"You’re the daughter I never had."
—Mar C'Seo[src]

Kuan Yin Nevu was trained by Jedi Council member Mar C'Seo [1], after passing the trials Kuan Yin would occasionally work with C'Seo even after she started training her own apprentice. It was sometime either during her training or shortly after that Kuan Yin managed to learn the Force-technique of Flow-walking, though it is unknown how she learned it and she was not able to master it enough to leave an imprint of herself in the past[2].

During a routine extraction mission, C'Seo was killed having told Kuan Yin to leave with Para Laren whom they had come to save as he had been injured. Shortly after her return to Coruscant, Kuan Yin took her former Master's place on the Council.

[edit] Naboo Crisis

"I am not here to give any words of advice, or even to offer my condolences."
—Kuan Yin Nevu[src]

When Qui-Gon Jinn came before the Council saying that the Sith had been behind the death of Shakya Devi, Kuan Yin was not nearly as skeptical as some of the Masters. She also agreed with Jinn in his statement that the boy Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen One.

Later, she visited Padmé Naberrie who was still grieving for her fallen Master, relating her own experiences when C'Seo had been killed. Kuan Yin also managed to convince the Council to let Padmé return to Naboo with Jinn and Queen Nalanda.

Kuan Yin was present at the funerals of Jinn and Devi, yet just before she approached Padmé and offered to train her and afterward the pairing was confirmed by the Council.

[edit] Secession Crisis

"The Council isn’t a gate you can swing any way you choose."
—Kuan Yin Nevu[src]

Shortly after Padmé passed her trials she was sent by the Council to Naboo to protect Senator Nalanda, a decision that Padmé disagreed with but Kuan Yin refused to intercede on her behalf again like she had during the Naboo crisis ten years before. She knew of young Skywalker's attraction towards Padmé–something she had tried to stop with the assistance of Skywalker's Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (JPT)–but told Padmé she had to trust herself and that there were some tests that needed to be faced.

Kuan Yin was also among the group of two-hundred Jedi that accompanied Mace Windu to free the trapped Senators on Imbroglio and later participated in the eschewing battle.

[edit] Clone Wars

Kuan Yin and Padmé Naberrie worked together on several occasions during the war. During the Avingnon Summit Kuan Yin and Padmé were with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, she managed to teach Skywalker Flow-walking[3], yet it is unknown why she did not pass this on to her former Padawan learner.

It appeared that Kuan Yin felt sorry for young Skywalker, particularly when he was put on the Council towards the end of the war so he could spy on Supreme Chancellor Palpatine.

[edit] Death and legacy

"You two go on, I’ll hold him as much as I can."
"No, Master—"
"Do as I say, Padmé!
"
—Kuan Yin Nevu and Padmé Naberrie[src]

After the death of General Grievous, Mace Windu had put the Temple in lockdown in case there were any reprisals from Palpatine. Padmé Naberrie then revealed to her that Palpatine was the Sith Lord Darth Sidious and that his apprentice Darth Typhon was none other than the Jedi Master Renust Nju. Kuan Yin knew that this information was critical to Windu, but before the three could find him they were confronted by Nju.

Like her master before her, Kuan Yin fought knew and told Padmé and Skywalker to save themselves. It did not take Nju long to cut her down as Padmé watched, her second Master that had fallen to a Sith.

Kuan Yin was remembered along with the other Jedi who had fallen in what became known as the Battle of the Jedi Temple, her lightsaber and a portrait of her were placed in the Temple Memorial Room–next to Padmé Naberrie's who had died not long after her.

[edit] Personality and traits

Kuan Yin was known for her keen perception as well as the subtle way she convinced others to her opinion[4], yet she was also open and direct, unlike many Jedi who were known for being cryptic and vague. Another strong trait of Kuan Yin's was her compassion, evidenced in the kindness she continued to show to young Anakin Skywalker and the understanding she had shown of Padmé's grief. And though a member of the Jedi Council, she did not strictly adhere to it's rulings, convincing them to change their minds as she knew it would help Padmé.

[edit] Power and abilities

As a Jedi Consular, Kuan Yin was particularly strong in the Force and had somehow learned the obscure technique of Flow-walking, and though she did not master it completely she passed the skill on to Anakin Skywalker.

She was also quite proficient with a lightsaber, using Form IV and training Padmé Naberrie in this form. Her lightsaber was green in color.

[edit] Behind the scenes

Kuan Yin Nevu was named after the Buddhist goddess of wisdom Kuanyin (also called Quanyin) and the character Sophie Neveu in The DaVinci Code.
