Keese Somar was a Human male Jedi Knight in the waning days of the Jedi Civil War and the First Jedi Purge, and was later exiled from the Jedi Order.

Trained by Jedi Master Marh Nassi, Somar was Knighted at the age of nineteen, and was enlisted aboard theRS Niare, a day later. After destroying a Sith warship, Somar embarked on a mission along with Master Kavar, fellow Jedi Knight Nopin Leve, pilot Vin Yiana, and bounty hunters Jani Mespar and Tisare Tesona. Together, the group managed to liberate Anon, ensuring a much-needed victory for the Republic Military.

Somar stayed with the group of liberators, minus Kavar, and journeyed aboard the Lebela with a new mission: to find and eliminate the Sith Lord Darth Samah. After a failed ambush on Korriban, Samah captured and later corrupted Leve, turning him to the dark side. While attempting to free Leve, unaware of the former's fall, Somar and the group was captured and held prisoner aboard a Sith warship. Tesona later managed to free the others. Traveling to Romin and learning of his old master's death, which unbeknownst to him was at the hands of Leve, the group continued their search for the latter. Working alongside Colonel Sapp, Somar discovered Leve's location, and led an assault on an abandoned apartment building being used by the Sith as a fortress, believing Leve to be trapped inside. However, Leve killed Mespar, revealing his fall to his former allies. An enraged then Somar left Romin, detirmined to kill Leve.

He was soon after exiled for his decision to illegally seek revenge against Leve, and was subsequently convicted for treason against the Galactic Republic. Colonel Solidarius Hoffman then led a galactic-wide manhunt for Somar.

[edit] Biography

[edit] Early life

Born in 3,975 BBY on Coruscant in the Senate District, Keese Somar was the son of Kon and Gigi Somar. A wealthy business family, Kon and Gigi gave Keese Somar to the Jedi Order while he was still an infant after they realized they weren't providing their son enough attention. Somar was then moved to the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine for training. There, he trained under Jedi Master Marh Nassi, a veteran member of the Jedi Order. Together, the two completed several missions and assignments throughout the galaxy, earning a small amount of fame. He quickly befriended fellow Padawan Nopin Leve.[1]

In 3,956 BBY, Somar failed his Jedi trials after failing to locate a missing boy in Khoonda. Somar, this time with Master Nassi accompanying him, managed to find the boy's father, whom murdered the boy. The father then attacked Somar, forcing Somar to defend himself and kill him. The Council was displeased after hearing that Somar had killed the man, but, at the forceful urging of Master Nassi, was Knighted as a Jedi Knight of the Order.[1]

[edit] Assigned aboard the Niare

Two days after his Knighting ceremony, Somar was assigned by the Council to serve under Captain Kacj Abru aboard the RS Niare, along with newly-Knighted Nopin Leve. After three weeks, the Niare and its crew managed to find their target: the Vendetta, a prototype warship being used by the Sith. Somar personally infiltrated the Sith cruiser, killing a Dark Jedi in his first lightsaber duel before detonating an explosive in the warship's fuel tanks, destroying it. This brought respect from the Niare’s crew, mainly Captain Abru and Vin Yiana, a corporal and pilot whom formed an interest with Somar. Following his return to the Niare, Somar met Tike Hinhu, leader of the Niare'’s starfighter squad, for the first time before making his way to receive medical treatment for his broken left leg. After, Somar learned from Abru that he would be transferred back to Dantooine, and that their mission together was over.[1]

[edit] Return to Dantooine & liberation of Anon

Somar and Leve return to the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine, and, not long after they arrive, mercenaries infiltrate the council chambers and assault the Council. The Jedi Masters manage to defeat the infiltrators, killing all but one, whom they take captive. During the fight, Somar's left leg is again broken, causing further injury to it. He is healed in the infirmary, and, the following day, is assigned to a mission alongside Leve, Jedi Master Kavar, HK-48, and Yiana and R2-B3, the both of them having left the Niare crew at the request of the Jedi Council. The group leaves Dantooine aboard the RS Lebela, Kavar's personal starship.[1]

After arriving on Anon, they recruit Jani Mespar and Barabel Tisare Tesona, a bounty hunter and slicer, respectively. With the new additions, the group of eight infiltrate the Sith Embassy, and detonate most of the explosives in the armory, causing the building to crumble. With the Sith on Anon in disarray, the citizens of Anon rebelled, eventually driving the Sith from the world. Successful, Somar and the rest of the group return to Coruscant, where Kavar sets out on another mission of his own, but before giving ownership of the Lebela to Somar and making him captain. He then assigns the group a new mission: to find and kill the Sith Lord Darth Samah.[1]

[edit] A new mission

Somar and the Lebela crew, now without Kavar, head out for their new mission. However, after two weeks, their search for information yielded no results. Trying a more straightforward tactic, the Lebela crew traveled to Korriban, the Sith homeworld, and Somar went under the alias of a fallen Jedi seeking to become a Sith. Joining the Sith academy, Somar was forced to retreat after not but a day, as the academy soon erupted into civil war, with students seeking power through eliminating one another. During the chaos, Leve, whom was hiding in a cave near the Valley of the Dark Lords, was abducted by Darth Samah. The rest of the Lebela crew hastily left Korriban in an effort to pursue the Fladriv, Samah's starship, but were unable to pick up on a trail.[1]

With Sith warships entering the system, the group traveled to a desolate location in open space. There, Somar used a played the audio recording on a datachip, which he'd recovered from Samah's quarters on Korriban, that revealed Leve's location: Romin.

[edit] Captured & loss of a Master

While en route to Romin system, the Lebela was pulled from hyperspace by a Sith Interdictor ship commanded by Commodore Leeiam Quincy. The Lebela crew resisted the ambush, with Somar, Yiana, and Tesona managing to stowaway aboard the Sith cruiser, however Mespar, HK-48, and R2-B3 were imprisoned. After a couple days, the free members of the group sprung Mespar and the two droids from imprisonment. Together, the group left the Sith cruiser and continued on their way to Romin.

As they arrived on Romin, the group flew over a crime scene. Striking his curiosity, Somar led to crew to the scene, where he was horrified to learn the murdered victim was his former master and instructor, Master Marh Nassi. Deciding to take matters into his own hands and lead the murder investigation personally, Somar joined forces with Republic Colonel Sapp. Somar sent Yiana to investigate the disappearance of the Niare, a task Master Nassi was completing during her death.

After a few days, Somar and Sapp believed they had discovered Level's location: an abandoned apartment building being watched by the Sith. The two then led a raid on the building, resulted in the death of Jani Mespar, whom was killed by Leve after Mespar was separated, revealing Leve's fall to the dark side to Somar. Before he could act, however, Somar was knocked unconscious by Commodore Leeiam Quicny, allowing Quincy and Leve to escape Romin along with Darth Samah.

Hours later, Somar awoke back in the Republic Embassy, and subsequently confronted Sapp, demanding to receive permission to track down Leve single-handedly. Sapp declined, but Somar and Tisare Tesona, Mespar's best friend, left to find Leve nonetheless.

[edit] Personality and traits

Somar was described at times as being too rash and hotheaded. He often lost his calmness after being told news that didn't favor him, and was easily angered by the death of Jani Mespar, despite his Jedi teachings. In addition, Somar was an impatient person, which was shown when he got up and left a medical center after Mespar's death before even being treated. At times, Vin Yiana, Somar's love interest, tried to sooth him down in order to prevent his temper from escalating in certain situations.

[edit] Behind the scenes

Keese Somar is the main protagonist in the Force Legend Series. He is portrayed by Commander Sheppard from Mass Effect and the player character from Dragon Age: Origins.
