This is a time for heroes of the Republic. We will do what is hard, we will achieve what is great. We reach for the stars and move past them further still, because the bedrock of our society is greatness.Jonathan Bac[src]

Jonathan Bac was the first Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, a galactic government that he helped to create. Prior to his time as Supreme Chancellor, which took place after the Unification War, Bac served as an admiral in the Organian Empire, as well as an ambassador to the pre-Republic Coalition of Planets.

Bac died nearly twenty-five thousand years before the Invasion of Utapau, a conflict in 22 BBY, but his influence lived on in Utapauans such as Chamberlyn, a lieutenant in the Utapau Security Forces and member of the Veermok Resistance who was an admirer of Bac's. Despite this, it was considered difficult for Bac to have widespread influence by that time, due to him having died over two dozen millennia prior to the conflict.

Biography[]

All beings have the right to live their lives as they choose, free from a government that stifles the freedoms and muzzles the self-expression of the people.
—Jonathan Bac[src]

Jonathan Bac was born on Alderaan in 25,045 BBY to Conrad Bac and Conrad's wife. Sometime during Bac’s youth, his father was assassinated on Onderon.[1]

After his father’s assassination, Bac joined the navy of the Organian Empire. After many years, he worked his way up to the rank of admiral. During this time, he also worked with the Order of the Jedi Bendu of the Ophuchi, and he became an ambassador to the Coalition of Planets. During the last battle of the Unification War, Bac fought against the Anarchic Brotherhood of Planets.[1]

Following the war's end, Bac helped draft the Galactic Constitution, the founding document of the Galactic Republic. The Republic was founded soon thereafter, and Bac was elected to be its first Supreme Chancellor, the executive leader of government. Bac served for eight years before retiring from the position.[1]

Soon after Bac retired, an interviewer decided to write a story on him and interviewed Bac for information. The former Supreme Chancellor recounted the story of his life, from his birth to his term as Supreme Chancellor.[1] Bac died in approximately 25,022 BBY.[2]

Legacy[]

Jonathan Bac was one of the greatest men who ever lived.
Chamberlyn[src]

Twenty-five thousand years after his death, Bac still had influence in the Galactic Republic. Chamberlyn, a lieutenant in the Trade Federation shipping cartel’s invasion of Utapau in 22 BBY, wrote a university thesis on Bac. Chamberlyn became an admirer of Bac’s, but Chamberlyn considered it difficult for Bac to have widespread influence due to the amount of time that had passed since Bac had died.[2]

Personality and traits[]

Bac believed that all beings were created equal and had the right to live their lives as they chose, free from oppressive governments that restricted the freedom of the people. After his death, Bac was seen as a politician who rose above partisan bickering, which some people felt was unlike politicians during the time of the Invasion of Utapau.[2]
