—Jirebon Trapani[src]

Jirebon Oliviero Trapani (born 4,013 BBY) was an Amrellian Human male crime lord, the founder and first Don of the Trapani Crime Family, businessman, and philanthropist. Often credited with transforming the Human Mafia into a dominating galactic underworld power, Trapani, according to historian accounts made thousands of years after his death, held control of the galaxy's most notable criminal society for over four decades and forever changed the concept organized crime itself.

Trapani was born on the world of Anon as the eldest of two children of Oliviero and Lindi Trapani; Jirebon's father was murdered while he was a young child. During his adolescent years, he was abruptly brought into a life of crime after working on several spice-smuggling runs, working under Don Nikola Georg. Eventually, Georg betrayed Jirebon and his friends, starting a short, violent feud between the two parties. Jirebon and his allies emerged victorious after murdering Don Georg. Several years later, the group killed Don Sven Nikola Georg, the original Don Georg's successor, and eliminated the Georg Crime Family altogether. Jirebon then received approval from the Commission to officially join the Human Mafia, and subsequently founded the Trapani Crime Family.

Two years later, the Trapani Family formed a shaky alliance with the Mangani Family in order to eliminate all other criminal competition on Romin. The two families dealt a considerable amount of damage to all their rivals, however Jirebon was later arrested and Don Mangani captured, causing a serious setback in their expansion and ongoing war, though Jirebon was soon after released and resumed command over his crime family.

BiographyEdit

Early lifeEdit

Jirebon Trapani was born on the world of Anon in 4,013 BBY. He was the son of Oliviero and Lindi Trapani. The Trapanis were a very poor family and lived in poverty in A-City during the Mid-Rim Depression, a time of economic crisis. Oliviero worked as a tailor, while Lindi remained largely unemployed due to the economic crisis. As a result of their poverty, Oliviero borrowed a substantial amount of money from Don Nikola Georg, the head of the Georg Crime Family. After Oliviero became unable to pay him back, Georg had his men brutally gun down Oliviero. Jirebon reacted badly to his father's murder and soon became depressed.[1]

Five years later, after getting into a fistfight with a fellow student, Jirebon encountered Hyram Darden and Myron Seter, who offered him a job smuggling spice. Jirebon accepted and the three drove a freight airspeeder to the drop-off point, where they encountered resistance from a rival crime family. During the firefight, Jirebon committed his first murder, which prompted him to realize that "the only people who mattered were the ones who had the balls to take what they wanted." The three completed the job and began a short career working for Don Georg, however they discovered months later that Georg was working as an informant for the Anon Police Force. The three men then assassinated Georg, ensuring their own safety from the law.[1]

Rise to prominenceEdit

If you make all preparations, nothing can go wrong.
—Jirebon Trapani on fighting the Georg Crime Family[src]

By 3,990 BBY, Jirebon had founded Trapani Imports & Exports, which he used as a front for his illegal rackets. By this time, he had gained a reputation as a "compassionate and sensible, yet ruthless crime lord," and local citizens often pleaded to him for help if they had problems. After meeting with a man claiming to be constantly threatened by Don Sven Nikola Georg, the new head of the Georg Crime Family and the original Nikola Georg's son, Jirebon agreed to eliminate the entire Georg family once and for all so that they could further expand their own operations.[1]

Days later, Jirebon, Darden, and Seter launched a devastating first-strike on the Georg Family by killing Don Sven Nikola Georg in an ambush. After several weeks of fighting, Jirebon and his men emerged victorious and the Georg Family was destroyed. With all opposition eliminated, Jirebon met with the Commission of the Human Mafia and requested permission to create an official Mafia crime family. The Commission accepted his request, and Jirebon founded the Trapani Crime Family. He asked Darden and Seter to serve as his caporegimes, who accepted, and recruited Tatius Karna to serve as the family's lawyer and consigliere, or adviser.[1]

Together, the four men gathered a considerable force of enforcers, informants, corrupt officials, and other associates. With no opposition, the group eventually expanded and gained control over the entire Anon system and established various fronts and rackets for spice smuggling and distribution, illegal gambling, weapon smuggling, prostitution rings, and even owned some legal businesses, such as hotels and casinos. Within a year, the Trapani Family was recognized by HoloNet News and other groups and individuals as the "one of most powerful criminal organizations in the Mid Rim systems."[1]

Mafia War of 3,988 BBYEdit

I will work with him, I will respect him, but I will never trust him.
—Jirebon Trapani on Whir Mangani[src]

In 3,988 BBY, Jirebon, Darden, Karna, and Seter met in the Trapani Compound to discuss the further expansion of their crime family. They decided to expand to the planet Romin, a world that was thriving with business and had tremendous potential for their criminal empire. Despite the others' opposition, Jirebon formed a shaky alliance with Don Whir Mangani, the head of the powerful Mangani Crime Family. The two crime families agreed to eliminate the other criminal organizations on the planet so that they can further expand and prosper. In addition, Jirebon assigned newly-promoted soldato Aldous Boldan the mission of finding and retrieving Caro Alonzo from the world of Falleen, although he did not originally tell Boldan why. The following day, while at his penthouse, Jirebon proposed marriage to Cher, a woman he had met at his sister, Gilda's, party years earlier. Cher accepted, and the two began planning their wedding.[1]

In the few days that followed, Jirebon, Darden, Karna, Mangani, and Seter continued to oversee and command their forces in the ongoing war. They planned the assassination of Manasses Premisl, a Felip Family caporegime, which Seter personally carried out. In secret, Jirebon had Boldan contact corrupt Republic Senator Hentik Molti, and bribed him into helping the Trapani Family by forming an opposition party against the then-proposed Organized Crime Bureau.[1]

Three months later, after a series from victories on the Trapani-Mangani alliance, Senator Hentik Molti was brutally gunned down by Don Indra Felip, the head of the Felip Family and rival to the Trapani-Mangani alliance. Jirebon devised a plan to extract revenge on the Felip Family, but he was soon after arrested by corrupt officials from the Romin Planetary Police (RPP).[1]

While in jail, Jirebon and Karna deducted that the former's arrest was set-up by Don Felip, who simply wanted to buy himself some time to go into hiding. Felip had bribed several RPP officers into arresting Jirebon. Due to a lack of evidence, Jirebon was released less than a day later. Once free, Jirebon held a meeting with several other made men in his crime family. There, the Don revealed his plans to have Caro Alonzo assassinate the head of the House of Tabris, one of the noble families on Falleen, so that the Trapani Family could mine certain minerals on the world, create, and then distribute the spice New Galaxy.[3]

After the meeting, later that night, Jirebon went out to a local diner. There, he encountered a mysterious strange man who Jirebon had never met before, yet the man had an eerie, advanced knowledge of Jirebon's history. In a very unusual conversation, the man questioned Jirebon's morality and past actions. Jirebon soon became unnerved by the man's presence. When Jirebon threatened the man by saying he will not be held responsible for his actions when he kills the man, the man seemed unmoved and said "Oh, but you will be held responsible. You will." The man then told Jirebon that Jirebon had a strong heart, and that it was "too bad it will fail you in the end." Ultimately, Jirebon broke down and pleaded the man to leave him alone, after which the man vanished.[3]

A couple weeks later, Jirebon received word that Don Whir Mangani had been found dead, and that the Mangani Family's underboss, Alfon Taun, was blaming them for his Don's death. Tensions between the Mangani and Trapani families escalated to a new level, and Jirebon became further concerned when he learned that he had a rat within his crime family that had informed Lord Tabris he was to be assassinated. Jirebon called upon Darden to fix the rat problem while he returned to Anon, fearing his own safety on the increasingly more dangerous Romin. While at the same time making preparations for his own wedding, Jirebon began planning a series of assassinations that would cripple the Felip Family, thus ensuring their victory in the ongoing war. After recruiting the "brutish and demonic" Alavi Capen into his family, Jirebon began ordering his enforcers on Anon to begin "cracking down on small-time gangsters" who refused to pay the Trapanis for selling their spice on the family's turf. Using the new source of money to back his actions, Jirebon had his plans to cripple the Felip Family carried out simultaneously: Boldan assassinated Felip underboss Ludias Moss, Darden murdered the only surviving Felip caporegime, and, secretly acting on Jirebon's orders, Capen destroyed a hotel on Romin, resulting in the deaths of Alfon Taun and several other Mangani Family made men. Meanwhile, on Anon, Jirebon and Cher were married in front of a crowd of happy onlookers.[2]

LegacyEdit

Sometime before 3,956 BBY, Jirebon died and passed the title of Don of the Trapani Family over to his son, Yirebi, who immediately changed how the Trapani Family operated. Jirebon's funeral was attended by thousands of Dons, mobsters, politicians, kings and queens, and even the Supreme Chancellor at the time, who Jirebon had helped get elected. The Supreme Chancellor praised Jirebon's "unparalleled die-hard spirit and wisdom" and posthumously rewarded him with the Galactic Republic Medal of Freedom and the Medal of Citizenship, the two highest honors awarded by the Republic to its citizens.[4]

In 28 BBY, on its list of the Top 100 Most Powerful Criminals in Galactic History, the HoloNet News listed Jirebon as #1, calling him "the most notorious and capable criminal to have ever lived." By the time of the Galactic Civil War, Jirebon was credited with transforming the Human Mafia into a dominating galactic underworld power, having held control of the galaxy's most notable criminal society for over four decades and forever changing the concept organized crime itself.[4]

Personality and traitsEdit

If a man's word isn't any good when he says it, then it isn't any better when it written in a contract.
—Don Jirebon Trapani[src]

Throughout his life, Jirebon was known for many of his personality traits. He was known by men within his crime family, as well as individuals who were not, as a compassionate, wise, calm, sensible person. However, he was also known to be at times fierce and ruthless. Whir Mangani was commented on Jirebon's personality, saying that "[Jirebon] can be as friendly and kind as your best friend, or he can be as ruthless as your worst enemy." Myron Seter called Jirebon "brilliantly balanced" and Hyram Darden credited him with having "the perfect mind" multiple times throughout their lives.

While most did not consider him a sexist person, Jirebon strongly believed that men were mentally stronger and more capable than women. He once said that it was "a man's world, but a woman's galaxy. Men are nothing without their women." Unlike most men in the Human Mafia, Jirebon was not prejudiced against alien races, and did not believe in Human supremacy. Since this was unusual for mobsters, it earned Jirebon the derogatory nickname "Jire the Color-Skinned Lover."

Although he believed that "inner beauty" was more important than appearances, Jirebon liked to conduct himself "with style." He dressed in expensive business suits, owned luxurious penthouses and ships, and had a fleet of sleek, black airspeeders at his disposal.[1]

Talents and abilitiesEdit

Jirebon was considered by many to be a gifted strategist and tactician. His prowess in organization, strategic skills, and tactical abilities were displayed on many occasions throughout his life. Using careful planning and tactics, he successfully eliminated the Georg Crime Family with less than a fourth of the Georg Family's numbers and financial resources. The mobster also displayed his wittiness and cleverness by rooting out numerous traitors in his criminal organization and by managing to successfully feign his death to reveal his hidden enemies.[4]

According to Tatius Karna, Jirebon had the "foresight of a master chess player" and was "able to predict the ramifications and possible opportunities from seemingly random events years in advance." Another ability of Jirebon's that he used to his advantage was his calmness and ability to see the actions of others from a non-personal, strictly business standpoint, even if said actions were committed against him. Hyram Darden once called Jirebon the "King of Logic."[4]
