The Jedi High Council, also simply called the Jedi Council, was the primary governing body of the Jedi Order during the time of the Galactic Republic. During its existence, it served as both a loose body of wise Jedi Masters who advised members of the Jedi Order how they should act without making many binding decisions, though for most of its history it served as the binding ruling body of the Jedi Order that made decisions they felt were in the best interests of the Jedi and the people of the galaxy.
The Jedi High Council consisted of twelve members that they alone selected. Known members during the Invasion of Utapau included Yoda, Mace Windy, Ki-Adi Mundi, Rana Quemin and Qui-Gon Jinn. During the early existence of the body, the Jedi Councilors each oversaw their own Jedi Council on worlds that they served as the Jedi Watchmen of, and the twelve came together periodically at the main Jedi Enclave on Ossus to meet. That main headquarters was later transferred to the Great Jedi Pyramid and, following the Pyramid’s destruction, the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
