The Imbroglio Summit was an important event that bridged the Secession Crisis with the Clone Wars. It was a meeting on Imbroglio between the Galactic Republic (represented by the Loyalist Committee) and the Confederacy of Independent Systems that was arranged between Senator Nalanda of Naboo and the former Jedi Count Dooku and facilitiated by Kanesh Dijoro.

[edit] Conception and Planning
- "I have worked hard to set up this meeting with the Separatists and I intended all along to have a voice in it."
- —Rhadé Sarasvati Nalanda[src]
As an effect of the events of the Secession Crisis, Palpatine created the Loyalist Committee which would act as an advisory body, as well as open any potential negotiations with the systems that had left the Republic. A year after it's formation, Nalanda succeeded in contacting Count Dooku and negotiations were opened to decide on a meeting place. Little did Nalanda know that Dooku was acting on the orders of his Master, Darth Sidious and he agreed to the summit as Sidious saw it as a way of eliminating political opponents. The planet Imbroglio was chosen, as it was thought by the Republic to be a neutral world, yet it had secretly gone over to the side of the Seperatists for the purposes of betrayal.
[edit] Prior Events
- "Only when we know where we stand with the Separatists can then the notion of an army be considered."
- —Rhadé Sarasvati Nalanda[src]
There was much skepicism in the Senate surrounding the forthcoming Summit, particularly after the Military Creation Act was introduced, some Senators arguing that the Seperatists would not listen, an assertion that would later prove to be true. Attempts were made to settle the question of an army for the Republic prior to the Summit, yet they failed.
Initially, Nalanda was prevented in attending due to two assassination attempts made on her, Chancellor Palpatine advised her to take a leave of absence and she was accompanied by two Jedi to safety on Naboo, giving the Gungan Danta Pela the full powers as her representative at the summit before she left. Yet when Pela was kidnapped, Nalanda left for Imbrolgio despite the still real threats against her life.
[edit] Revelations and Result
- "The conference between myself and the so-called ‘Loyalist Committee’ is nothing more than a trap."
- —Dooku[src]
On the first day of the Summit, Nalanda's worst fears proved to be true. Dooku was not open for any sort of compromise and despite the efforts made by the Loyalists, the former Jedi used the Summit as a platform for his own views on how corrupt and dated the Republic had become.
There was no second day as had been planned, as Sidious' (and therefore Dooku's) intention was to contain the politicans, as on the first night the Loyalists were locked in their rooms while the Seperatist fleet blockaded the planet, preventing any escape. This betrayal was initially discovered by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Dooku himself told him of the plan when he was captured on Geonosis. Kenobi did not believe this until his apprentice Anakin Skywalker confirmed it, having overheard Dooku and Nute Gunray while he was on his way to rescue his Master. They managed to notify the Jedi Council who notified the Senate. At the urging of Mas Amedda, Danta Pela proposed giving Palpatine emergency powers to deal with the crisis, and approve the creation of the Grand Army of the Republic.
A strike team of Jedi was set up by Mace Windu for an immediate rescue effort of the Loyalists, assisted by Kenobi and Skywalker The Jedi managed to free the Loyalists but were caught in a crossfire with the rapidly invading Seperatist army. During the fighting Nalanda was killed, by the bounty hunter Jango Fett after he arrived with an offer of clemency from Dooku, Fett was killed by Mace Wimdu merely seconds later. Had it not had been for the timely arrival of Yoda with the newly created clone army, there would have been many more deaths. The Battle of Imbrolgiothen began, this was to be the first battle of the Clone Wars.
[edit] Legacy
Aside from beginning the Clone Wars, a direct result of the Imbroglio Summit was a heightened distrust of the CIS and this was extended tho any within the Republic that proposed opening negotiations with them again. This was further evidenced by the failure of the Conference of Avingnon 19 BBY, three years into the war.
Though the Seperatist forces retreated following the battle and Imbroglio became a Republic occupied world, one of the main objects of the conference was achieved,: that of the elimination of certain politicans such as Senator Nalanda who was killed by Jango Fett, as were many other Jedi during the fighting.
