—House motto

The House of Sunrunner, officially listed in the Peerage Register as the Ancient and Most Noble Tarisian House of Sunrunner, was a Tarisian noble house notable for producing a number of Force-sensitive members, including the Jedi Weapon Master Soren Sunrunner; the Revanchist Suri Sunrunner, known as the Jedi Apostate; and Jedi General Sonya Sunrunner.

Members of the House held the Tarisian Peerage titles associated with the County Sunrunner, and briefly held the Imperial courtesy title of the Duchy of Taris.

History[]

Though not among the most powerful or influential houses on Taris, the House of Sunrunner nonetheless produced a number of Tarisian politicians and public figures during its several hundred year existence. Apart from Suri Sunrunner, the House and its ancestral seat were destroyed in the 3956 BBY Destruction of Taris by Darth Malak's Sith Empire.

The House remained extant in exile for the next 335 years until the Reclamation of Taris during the Cold War, when Salazor Sunrunner, 23th Count Sunrunner, removed the family seat from Corulag back to Taris. A number of extant cadet branches could still be found on Coruscant and Anaxes despite this relocation.

The House continued to contribute members to the Jedi Order over the next few millennia, including Jedi Knight Sonya Sunrunner, 62nd Countess Sunrunner. Sonya served briefly as a Jedi General in the Grand Army of the Republic's Tenth Army during the Clone Wars before electing to leave the Order.

Not all members of the House were friendly towards the Jedi and the Republic, however. Sevren Sunrunner, the "Butcher of Taris," was a longtime supporter of Sheev Palpatine, and was rewarded for his decades' worth of faithful support with the Duchy of Taris, the planetary governorship of Taris, and the Imperial rank of Moff of the Taris sector.

Holdings[]

The House held a number of important historic artifacts dating back to the Great Hyperspace War. These were housed in the ancestral seat of the Sunrunner Palace, and the collection included such relics as the Sunrunner robes and Soren Sunrunner's sword. These items were generally held by the patriarch or matriarch of the House, or were given as gifts to Force-sensitive members who had the ability to properly wield them.

Though most of this collection was lost during the Destruction of Taris, the family robes survived courtesy of the Jedi Apostate, who additionally passed on Karros's lightsaber as a family heirloom. Upon the House's return to Taris, Salazor Sunrunner rebuilt the Sunrunner Palace and reinstituted the House's practice of artifact collection, himself adding a half-dozen Sith holocrons personally unearthed from a dig site on Korriban.

Behind the scenes[]

The House of Sunrunner is one of a number of noble houses on Taris. The author was inspired to create such a house after replaying Taris Upper City in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and meeting a Tarisian noble in the Upper City Cantina. Similarly, the house is a vague parallel of the canon Qel-Droma family of Old Republic lore.

The House words "Erase the Darkness" were proposed by SavageOpress1138.
