Gareth Sode was a Human male Force-sensitive from Odacer-Faustin and an Acolyte in the Dark Jedi of the Bogan during the Hutt War. He was born the son of a small time space pirate and his mistress on Odacer-Faustin, a small outpost of the Dark Jedi. His Force sensitivity was not discovered until he reached the age of eighteen, at which time, he was recruited as a student and sent to the Dark Jedi's base world of Ando Prime to undergo training.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Gareth Sode was born on the snow-covered, scarcely populated, world of Odacer-Faustin to a small time space pirate and his mistress. Growing up on the harsh world, for Gareth, was unbearable. His parents were abusive, and cared very little for him, using him mostly to do the labor around their home that they didn't want to do. This led Gareth to loath life, though he loathed his parents more. He longed for a life of adventure and fame. His Force-sensitivity, for the most part, remained dormant throughout his teenage years, until a few months after he turned eighteen. After another verbal and physical beating from his father, Gareth returned to his room in a fit of physical and emotional pain. One emotion stood out to him, however; anger. His anger only intensified as the night went on, and seemed to awaken his hidden Force powers; causing several objects in the room to float or shake violently. He was initially shocked by this, and hid his discovery from his parents at all costs.
One night, after his parents came in from visiting the local cantina, he overheard them talking about recruiters having arrived in the settlement and made plans to check it out the very next time he went into town. His chance came the following week, when his parents forced him into town to pick up supplies for their homestead. Gareth went into town, but instead of gathering the supplies he was told to get, he went in search of the Dark Jedi recruiters. He found them on the edge of the snow-covered town and asked to join their cause. He explained to them the strange occurrence that had happened in his anger several days prior, and the two Dark Jedi immediately took up his offer, putting him on a ship bound for Ando Prime where he could be trained by a Crusader or a Master.[1] However, the ship that was carrying him was rerouted to Conscio after it was contacted by one of the Dark Jedi Masters, informing them that the Dark Jedi base at Ando Prime had been compromised by an invasion of Republic forces.
Personality and traits[]
Gareth's broken childhood and abusive parents traumatized him from a young age. His childhood was grueling not just in his parent's behavior, but also in the environment in which he lived. Odacer-Faustin was a cold and harsh planet, especially in the winter. All of these factors led to Gareth on his first steps towards the dark side, even though he did not discover his Force affinity until later in his life. He often desired for vengeance against his abusive parents and escape from the prison of Odacer-Faustin.
At the academy, he became notorious for his sadistic ways, showing no more care for his fellow Acolytes than even his enemies. Cruel and hateful, Gareth was almost completely a creature of darkness by his early adulthood ages. He was also a very treacherous individual, even though he demanded good faith from others, especially those that he didn't see as even with himself in rank or power.
Unlike most Acolytes in the Dark Jedi of the Bogan, he initially did not have a hatred for the Jedi, as their existence had no relevance for him. He sought the Dark Jedi out because of his hunger for escape, vengeance, glory, and ultimately, power. As an Acolyte, Gareth found his fellow students irrelevant, caring very little to interact with them. He was more focused on studying and practicing his techniques. He was also a very serious individual, and was not one known for joking or even smiling after his joining the Dark Jedi. During his combat training, and in the few sparring sessions he competed in with other Acolytes, he was ruthless, brutal, and unforgiving.
Gareth had very few likes, but among those few things was solitude. He detested the company of others when he could avoid it, preferring to rely on himself and is own strengths. He seemed to be in a decent mood (better than his usual mood) when immersed in studying ancient Dark Jedi texts or practicing his Force Powers. Contrary to his likes, his list of dislikes was fairly long, with the first thing on that list being his parents. He also disliked those who wastes their potential, especially Force-sensitives. That eventually became his view of the Jedi - he viewed them as Force-sensitives that have squandered their gift by purposely restricting themselves. He also disliked those who cheat to achieve power, believing that only through harsh training and meditation could power be achieved.[1]
Powers and abilities[]
Gareth was a strategical genius, being able to come up with several strategies to take down an enemy, or completing a mission, almost on the spot. He was also a skilled fighter and was a force to be reckoned with, even as an apprentice. His weaknesses lay in his lack of computer skills and, ironically, the anger that made him powerful. The very anger and resentment he called upon to strengthen his Force and lightsaber capabilities, in great amounts, could often blind him and cause him to lose his awareness to his surroundings.[1]
Force powers[]
Gareth was a Force-sensitive human, though the full extent of his capabilities are not currently known.
Behind the scenes[]
Gareth is inspired by the canon characters Galen Marek and Jason Solo, and his name was partially derived from their first name and surname respectively. His birth on Odacer-Faustin was inspired by the Star Wars novel, Red Harvest, which found its main setting on the snow covered world. His style of fighting was very loosely drawn from a Sith Acolyte in the novel, named Rance Lussk. When the writer was attempting to develop a personality for Gareth, he found everything he came up with to be too much like characters such as Darth Sidious or Vader. Then, when listening to Hans Zimmer's soundtrack song, Davy Jones, for the "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" movie, he decided to draw inspiration from Davy Jones, the fictional supernatural ruler of the seven seas in the movie.
