Fanon Cantina

This forum is an experiment. I'm going to try this once and see if it works, and if it doesn't, then I'll never do it again. Tongue.

What I'm doing is proposing something along the lines of What's the Story?, a feature where SW.com Hyperspace members can submit entries in a contest to have their writing included in canon. Except I'm not offering to make your work canonical. lol Instead, what I'm offering is an opportunity for you to write a backstory for an Essential Guide to Force Exile entry, specifically for a character of my choice. If you don't want to participate, then don't. And don't bother leaving me commentary telling me that this is a terrible idea. It will be flatly ignored.

So, here's a few ground rules.

  1. No breaking of canon. Sorry, but no. If this is going to be in Force Exile continuity, it just can't.
  2. I have sole discretion on what, if any, entries I pick. I reserve the right to mercilessly edit them. The original author will be credited on the main EGTFE page, as well as the actual entry.
  3. No Mary Sues.
  4. Along the same lines as Rule 3, no Force-sensitive battle-droids. Absolutely not.
  5. Please keep in mind the role the character plays in their respective story. I've provided a brief overview of their role since probably not everyone's read a lot of Force Exile.
  6. No junk or joke entries. I don't want to hear about how the schoolteacher was actually Darth Roxxors in a previous life.
  7. Nods to obscure canon are always a plus. :-D
  8. You are not required to write what the character's role in the FE work was. I can do that.
  9. I'm looking for about 500-2000 words of backstory as a general guideline.

How to submit[]

  • Send me an e-mail at (My user name) @ (Wookieepedia) (dot) (com) with your entry either in the main body of the e-mail or attached in .doc, .docx, .rtf, or .txt format. I'm not a big fan of .pdf.
  • I'll make a decision arbitrarily.
  • Entries that are chosen will be credited properly on the entry and the main EGTFE page.

Happy writing. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Talk page) 22:16, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

First character[]

Congratulations to Solus for her winning entry for Amavel Norres.

Second character[]

Bwilor was a male Twi'lek security guard and the owner of Durashield Securities, Inc, located on Commenor. However, he also received no usable contest entries after two content releases and has been condemned to wander the trackless voids of eternity without a backstory. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Talk page) 18:47, 21 February 2009 (UTC) An arrangement was made with Jedi Master 76 so that he could submit an entry late, as long as he also made one for Drelve Tlaleo. It could have been ready last content release, but I was feeling lazy, so it didn't make it. Congratulations to him on that entry and on Bwilor Haenn! Third character[]

Sulan'bask was a male Devaronian pirate who was active around 16 BBY. However, he received no usable content entries after two content releases and has been condemned to wander the trackless voids of eternity without a backstory. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Talk page) 18:01, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Fourth character[]

Congratulations to Brandon Rhea for his winning entry for Taelros Bac. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Talk page) 05:22, November 9, 2009 (UTC)

Fifth character[]

  • Can't believe it's been a year and a half since I've done one of these. Part of that has been due to a lack of good characters with open-ended backstories in my releases. Well, that's about to change. The next entry is for Ashli Tar-sonis. Recommended reading is Nine Riders. That's the only story she's appeared in.

Some other notes for potential authors: It's possible that Ashli Tar-sonis was part of the Yanibar Guard force that will be heading to Rishi in FE V where (spoiler) they will be fighting Yuuzhan Vong. She is not planned for inclusion in the novel, but that may be useful should you choose to write her story of after the events of Nine Riders.

Please have entries submitted to me by 10 August. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Talk page) 05:04, April 14, 2011 (UTC)

Discussion and comments[]

  • If I find some free time, I'd be happy to read the rest of the series and help out. :) --Darth tom sig (talk) (contributions) 17:33, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
  • Same here. Wing msg 02:45, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Per Tom, except I've read most of it. — JM76 Ask Archives Sabersmilyjm76 03:05, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Do you still want me to write a character entry for that certain filmmaker we discussed? - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 19:54, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

  • Any such entry would fall under the parameters of the What's the (back)story? contest; I don't extend invitations for people to write about characters I created outside of this forum, and I seem to recall saying something along those lines to you on IRC. However, if that character comes up for a contest entry, feel free. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Talk page) 18:23, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

You left my question about that very open ended and barely said anything about it. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 21:12, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Yes, well, he's the WTB entry now. I couldn't have people writing backstory earlier until the character's role in FE IV was completed, and given that that information in itself was a SPOILER, I had to be vague. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Talk page) 18:01, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
  • The What's the (back)story? contest is on a bit of a hiatus until I have some more characters ready for EGTFE entries. I'm sure most of you won't miss it. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Talk page) 05:22, November 9, 2009 (UTC)

Totally forgot you started another one of these contests. I am not sure if I am going make one (take that as a good thing if you want).-I'm the Chosen One 03:55, July 25, 2011 (UTC)
