Forum:Proposal to change the IRC policies
The Star Wars wiki of fan invention.
This is an archive of a proposal to change IRC policies. Consensus has determined that it has passed. – JM76 Ask Archives

It has come to my attention that our IRC policy is really outdated. While it is not SWF's biggest concern at the moment, I am a firm believer in keeping policies up to date. Therefore, this will be the discussion page for ideas on our new IRC policy. I have created one that I think fits nicely with the current usage and scheme of the IRC channel, though other policies may be recommended and added at your discretion.
You can find the policy here User:Jedi Master 76/IRC. Consensus will end August 16th, possibly earlier if there is an overwhelming consensus.

Hm, I will abstain from voting since (1) the IRC is rarely filled with users and (2) from my experience, no one cares about the rules and no one even tries to enforce them. I am one of those users who just likes to have fun and mess around. Of course, if someone is going to enforce the rules, I won't break them, but I won't support them (or oppose them either) knowing IRC is an epic meh. Also, at this time, someone please remove my op privileges; I no longer wish to hold them, as the temptation to abuse them is just too much. ;) --Victor talk 05:39, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- That's why I feel we need new rules. Because no one enforces them. If they are made more clear and are not limited to "noez politicz & kickz lulz", then maybe we could actually have a less meh-y IRC. I realize that the IRC is generally a place to goof around and have fun, I kept that in mind as I wrote these. That being said, it's obviously the community's choice whether or not they follow the rules, the biggest issue we have is actually enforcing those rules. And per your request, your ops have been removed. – JM76 Ask Archives

Thank you. --Victor talk 06:33, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
True that no-one cares about the rules. I was baned for 3 days for calling Ataru a bastard. Brandon and Victor were also there. It was a funny chat I admit that but they knew I was kidding and still baned me. After I kept on asking Brandon, he unbanned me. I don't like that crap. That's why we need rules. Also just to clear up, no-one has ever come onto the IRC to as for help in my experience. Never. --Arav the Undersith (Contact Me) (My contributions) 08:45, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
