The following was a proposal to approve a redesign of the Main Page. The result of the discussion was that the proposal unanimously passed. This forum is an archive. Should you wish to add your opinion on the matter, please do so on the forum's talk page.
Hello everyone. Frankly, our Main Page is crap and I know some users have asked for a redesign in recent months. So I have made one here and wanted to know all your opinions and, of course, ask for your votes. All the same content is available except it is far more organized and currently working under temporary templates that, if this Main Page passes, will override the current template versions. Among these are {{DidYouKnow}} (see {{DidYouKnow/temp}})and {{QOTW}} (see {{QOTW/temp}}) for example, among several others. I hope you all like it. Inspiration came from the Spanish Star Wars Wiki main page, which I know came from Wookieepedia's own Main Page.
Vote and discuss below. I'll take suggestions into account but nothing is guaranteed, and please do not change anything yourselves. Voting ends May 26, 2009.

- It looks much cleaner and better-organized, the new redesign. Hopefully with a new look (and subsequent nuking of crap articles), the wiki will garner a better reputation. Trak Nar Ramble on 07:06, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Much better, a lot cleaner and looks works well with the source code that I

- It's crap. It's horrible. It's the worst main page I've ever seen. You should be ashamed of yourself. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 16:55, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Can we get a link to upcoming FAs, upcoming GAs, and upcoming FWs on the main page as well? We have them now and, in my opinion, they should stay. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 18:50, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Another thing I just thought of: isn't the advertisement in the right hand corner of the main page going to force the entire main page down, considering you have that long banner there, or is the advertisement going to go through the right side of the banner? - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 18:55, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Isn't that a something you should ask KyleH about rather than Victor? --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 18:59, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Vic's the one who designed it, so the question needs to go to him because it's asking how HE is going to account for it in the design. Regardless, I have my answer. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 19:00, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not going to be adding a space for the ad. I don't see the adds and when I test it in explorer it doesn't come up or bother my page. I don't know why it does interfere with your computer, but I won't be changing it for the sake of the stupid ad (unless a comprehensive code that pushes the main page downward is acquired). As for the upcoming, I decided they're useless because links to the 'archive' (history pages) are more informative (since they have all past FA/GAs) and the upcoming adds nothing new. –Victor (talk page) 19:32, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Plus, all that the upcoming list is currently doing is showing people that we have nothing coming, so it's kind of pointless. -- Joe Butler (Talk to me) 20:11, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Solution to ads: Firefox + adblock + register an account. Atarumaster88 (Talk page) 20:54, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
And where can I find this adblock? Also, I have a concern about your justification for not adding the space for the ad, Vic. Your reasoning seems to be "I don't see it so I don't care". We shouldn't expect people to have to download adblockers. The main page should be set up in a way that works well for the majority of the people, not just for those who don't see the ads. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 23:46, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Per Brandon. The first two sections just need some shrinking horizontally. Drewton (Drewton's Holocron) 00:46, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
I completely agree that it's neato, but it's going to screw over a lot of people. That doesn't help when we're going for professionalism in this new design. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 01:26, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Here's what it looks like now. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 01:42, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- Question, would anyone oppose implementing the new Main Page (and the newly styled templates) now? I know I opened this for one week, but we have overwhelming support and that Main Page (current) is a big eyesore. –Victor (talk page) 03:05, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- I wouldn't oppose it. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 03:09, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
There's no reason to keep it open if you want to go ahead. There won't be any serious objections, and if there are any issues they can be worked on later. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 03:17, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- Alright then, go ahead. I have listed the templates that need replacement below (and probably merger of histories; Michael is good at that): –Victor (talk page) 03:22, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
