Forum:Happy Birthday, Wookieepedia!
The Star Wars Wiki of fan invention.
[edit] Wookieepedia Third Anniversary Media Release
- "Wookieepedia is the best fan wiki and an amazing example of what smart people with simple tools can create by working together. Ten years ago, there was no Wookieepedia. Ten years ago, I was one of several 'walking Wookieepedias.' But information works best when it's not concentrated in the hands of a few experts, and you no longer have to be an expert to contribute to the whole. By harnessing the knowledge of thousands, Wookieepedia has strengthened Star Wars immeasurably."
- —Daniel Wallace, March 1, 2008
Today, March 4, 2008, Wookieepedia (starwars.wikia.com)—a wiki-based Star Wars encyclopedia—turns three years old.
Compiling information from all aspects of the Star Wars universe, including the films, books, comics, magazines, television, and games, this online encyclopedia serves as an in-depth guide to both the obvious and the obscure aspects of that "galaxy far, far away." Thanks to the quality work of its many contributors, Wookieepedia has grown exponentially in the three years since its establishment, now boasting over 55,000 articles, with thousands more in fifteen additional languages! This makes it by far the largest encyclopedia hosted by Wikia.
The Star Wars encyclopedia spread its influence this past summer by attending Celebration IV in Los Angeles, California. Sponsored by Wikia, members of Wookieepedia, in a joint effort with Bob Vitas of the Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia, manned a booth generously provided by Lucasfilm in the Fan Fair Exhibit Hall. In addition, Wookieepedia and Master of Ceremonies Doug Steves hosted "Stump the Wookiee," a Star Wars-themed trivia contest complete with prizes, on the Behind-the-Scenes Stage.
Wookieepedia is constantly on the lookout for additions to its roster of thousands of enthusiastic users from all corners of the world. There remains a vast array of topics to document, plus many new sources to cover in the coming year, from the new Clone Wars television series, to the conclusion of the Legacy of the Force novels, the start of the Coruscant Nights trilogy, and much more. If you've got the drive and the knowledge to help put together the largest collection of Star Wars information on the web, head on over and sign up now!
[edit] Statement
Many on Star Wars Fanon believe that many users on Wookieepedia do not appreciate this Wiki, the work that has been put into it or fan fiction in general. However, it's safe to say that we all appreciate Wookieepedia and their valuable contributions to the Star Wars fandom. I always use use Wookieepedia for research when writing my novels and I don't know what I'd do without them, so I really, really appreciate the three years of work they've put into their wiki. I personally want to thank them for their hard work and wish them a happy birthday, and I hope you all join me in doing so as well. Once again, Happy Birthday Wookieepedia! - President Brandon Rhea

- Thank you Brandon for continuing to appreciate Wookieepedia. I should say that some of us appreciate the work you guys are doing here too, however you probably are right in that we're a minority in that thought. -- Riffsyphon1024 06:40, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Congratulations to Wookieepedia, though I will toot my own horn for the contributions I've given to the Wiki as well. Rar, to three more years! --Squishy Vic discussion archives 06:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Though an hour or so late (where I am), I'd also like to extend my congratulations on the Wookiee's birthday. Cheers, -- JM76 Ask Archives

- I don't know how Chad Barbry, but it's always been nice to see at least one of the Wookieepedia founders as a reasonably active member here. I've wanted to see some sort of partnership between SWF and Wookieepedia for awhile and because that'll never happen, having a founder here is basically a nice consolation prize. - President Brandon Rhea

- Chad can be too busy with life at times to contribute, even for Wookiee. Plus he has stated that he just doesn't know that much for Star Wars, but marvels at everyone else's dedication. Don't think he doesn't care though. -- Riffsyphon1024 01:41, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
