Flame cannons were large metal cylinders that ejected small amounts of flame in quick bursts. The weapon was used by the Maynian armies around 450 BBY. While the large weapons remained stationary, the Maynian scientists constructed wrist flame cannons that were carried by the army's soldiers. Due to the wrist cannon's small size, they could not be used for long periods of time due to the fact it was prone to overheating.

While the cannon was finished in 449 BBY, production began in 453 BBY. Throughout the weapon's early stages, production was halted due to funding or errors in calculations. In 451 BBY, Maynian scientists had begun building plans of an incendiary bomb that was nicknamed, "the silencer".
