The First Sith Empire, also called the True Sith Empire, was an empire established by Dark Jedi who were banished by the Jedi Order from the Galactic Republic after their defeat in the Hundred-Year Darkness. The Dark Jedi traveled to Korriban and conquered it, after which they interbred with the native Sith species through Sith Alchemy and began a long period of building and expansion in order to strengthen their cause in the dark side.
Having been dubbed Sith Lords by the Sith species due to their powers in the dark side, the Lords of the Sith developed their empire in isolation from the Galactic Republic for two thousand years before hyperspace explorers discovered it. During this time, the Dark Lord of the Sith Marka Ragnos established a Sith citadel on Ziost which he used as a front for his Sith Battle Lords experiments, conducted using the vast funds and resources at the First Sith Empire’s disposal.
After the death of Ragnos and the discovery of Korriban by the Republic, the Dark Lord Naga Sadow led the Empire in an invasion of Republic space during what came to be known as the Great Hyperspace War. However, the Empire was defeated, and it was eventually destroyed by Republic forces during a battle on Korriban. The First Sith Empire was followed by what came to be called the Second Sith Empire, which was established by the Dark Lord Revan and his apprentice Malak.
