The Duel of Yavin IV was Merno Sardonis' attempt to kill Luke Skywalker and deal a blow to the Jedi that would force them to stay out of the main fighting.
Background[]
Sardonis had taken control of the Galactic Empire with the defeat of the New Republic forces at the Babis Raid. But, he knew that as long as Luke Skywalker led the Jedi Order, he would never be able to win. So, he unleashed his ultimate unit; the Betrayed.
The Duel[]
The Betrayed landed at the Jedi Academy right after Chewbacca arrived to deliver the news of Han Solos' death to Luke Skywalker. They force ran out of their ship and attacked Luke Skywalker, who was barely able to hold them off. He told Wedge Antilles and Lando Calrissian to stay out of the fight, but Chewbacca could not be held back. He caught one of the Betrayed, and ripped her arms out of her sockets, then slammed her against the laser cannon of Wedge's X-wing.
Luke used a voice enhancer to alert the rest of the Academy, and he was joined by Corran Horn, who stabbed a Sith through the head as he turned to stop him. Darth Betrayed split up the remaining Sith to fight both.
The Jedi gave ground and raced into the Control Room, where Jacen Solo joined the fight, leaping over a table to slashing at Darth Betrayed. Betrayed blasted him with Force Lightning, knocking him against a radar screen. Jacen Solo recovered quickly and rejoined the fight. Luke slit the throat of another Sith, dropping the number of Sith down to six.
But, then the Sith used a massive Force Shockwave to blast them out into the Chamber. They pursued them into there, and were suddenly ambushed when Kyp Durron dropped from the ceiling, cutting down two more sith in the backs. Now, the Jedi and Sith were equal in numbers, and the Jedi hemmed them in, killing all but one in less then a minutes time. Darth Betrayed launched a Force Blast which knocked Kyp Durron out of his escape path, and fled the battle. He barely made it into his ship, where he was again forced to fight. He sent a massive Lightning ball to knock all his opponents backwards. He then escaped into hyperspace.
Aftermath[]
With this battle, the Betrayed were destroyed as a fighting force. Only one survived, and they did not achieve their goals. Meanwhile, the Jedi were awakened to the danger the Republic was in, and prepared to join the fight.
