"They look so small from up here!"
—A Drapeznik pilot responding to enemy troops

The Drapeznik-class assault gunship was an aerial assault vehicle used by the Srav Federation during the Cruentusian War. It was termed a 'hovercopter', in that it was equipped with ion-powered jets and basic repulsorlifts, with rotors that were used nominally for stablising but were usually used as blades to slice up enemies in battle. Equipped with nuclear-tipped missiles and heavy machineguns, the Drapeznik was very powerful against ground units, but fared poorly against other air units. For this reason, it was usually deployed alongside Yukel-class assault fighters.

Piloted by a co-pilot, pilot and a gunner, the Drapeznik was equipped with targeting computers that made sure its missiles never missed when fired at a ground vehicle, although it tended to be confuse the heat signatures of infantry with surrounding fauna and floura. Powered by nuclear power cells, the Drapeznik was capable of achieving high atmospheric altitude, to the extent that it could attack starships in an utter atmosphere with its high-powered air-to-air warheads that were mostly used in high-atmosphere situations due to the fact that the explosion often damaged the Drapeznik when used on the ground.

Although its ion jets and its rudimentary repulsors provided lift, the Drapeznik was stabilized by dual rotors that it would often used as blades to slice up infantry on the ground. Drapeznik pilots used its blades to great effect in battles involving the Zayre, although sometimes flesh would clog up the rotors and cause the Drapeznik to crash.

In terms of armnament, the Drapeznik was formidable. It could easily tear apart ground vehicles its missiles, which were usually tipped with very-low yield tactical nuclear warheads, and could chew up infantry its powerful but inaccurate machineguns. However, its air defence was poor, and despite flare countermeasures which were often installed upon it, the Drapeznik was considered an easy target by pilots of craft such as the Necasian DarkBird-class attack fighter.

[edit] Behind the scenes

'Drapeznik' is a romanised version of the Polish word 'Drapieznik', which means 'predator'.
