The Dragon Slayer was a Gladius-class light freighter owned by the former Sith Lord Tak Sakaros.
Following the outbreak of the Sith-Imperial War in 127 ABY, Sakaros took to roaming throughout the galaxy, sometimes smuggling or doing assassination work, other times brokering information, and yet other times assassinating the Sith agents of his enemy, Darth Krayt. He quickly found his normal mode of conveyance, an extensively modified Z-95 Headhunter, insufficient to the task; not only was it small and open to danger, but those who knew Sakaros was still alive had long since come to associate the fighter with him specifically, especially as it had gone out of general use. The Sith decided to adopt a more defensible craft.
Due to his time with Kuat Drive Yards, Tak knew the production facilities' defensive and security capabilities intimately. Storing his Z-95 on Nar Shaddaa, he stowed away onboard a series of freighters, cargo ships, and passenger liners, eventually arriving at Kuat. By using a security slicer and his own Force abilities, he managed to sneak into the main production bay of one of the drive yards and commandeer a Gladius-class light freighter. Still inside the security system, he stalled the automated defenses long enough to escape to hyperspace.
After a few short trips to assess his ship's capabilities, Sakaros returned to Nar Shaddaa and began extensive modifications of the ship. He upgraded the shield generator, as well as adding a proton torpedo launcher and a series of countermeasures. He also tweaked the sublight engines and hyperdrive, enabling the already-nimble craft to move even faster, and keep up with his Force-enhanced reflexes. He also installed a set of defenses, including a hull scanner able to detect irregularities (such as tracking bugs or sabotage), a nerve gas release if the ship was forcibly entered, and a stun field generator in the cockpit (Sakaros himself, being a Force user, was able to resist the effects of the stun system). To top it off, he upgraded the ship's targeting computer, so if he was forced to concentrate on flying alone, the ship could shoot his enemies automatically.
Armed with his much-enhanced craft, Sakaros continued his missions through space, naming his ship the Dragon Slayer. He chose the name partially in reference to his own legendary victory over a krayt dragon unarmed, and partially in reference to Darth Krayt. After Sakaros became the majordomo of the Zeltron crime boss Ara Merquise in 138 ABY, he kept the Dragon Slayer docked on the Smuggler's Moon, using it only when he needed a larger craft or one with carrying capabilities.
