Darth Plagueis was a Jedi Knight turned Dark Lord of the Sith in the Order of the Sith Lords in the years prior to the Invasion of Utapau. Before falling to the dark side, he discovered the secrets of immortality, the knowledge of which he eventually passed onto his apprentice.

[edit] Biography
Darth Plagueis was born nearly four thousand years before the Invasion of Utapau and became a member of the Jedi Order sometime thereafter, during which time he fought in a number of battles and became friends with Ussej Padric Bac. While he was a Jedi, he fell in love with an unknown woman, who eventually came to him with a vision of her own death. Plagueis promised to find a way to stop those he cared about from dying, and although he succeeded in finding a way, he later recounted that one of his greatest friends had betrayed him and his lover was killed. When that happened, he began to fall to the dark side of the the Force, and although he did not know it at first he eventually fell completely to the dark side and became the Dark Lord of the Sith.[1]
Because of the secrets of immortality, Plagueis was able to live for four thousand years, around which time he took an apprentice. Plagueis and his apprentice also took up residence at the Sith Temple on Dathomir, where Plagueis encountered women he believed to be part of the Witches of Dathomir, although an unspoken agreement between them and the Sith where it was agreed to leave the other alone kept him from interacting with them. In approximately 40 BBY, after having shared with his apprentice some of the secrets of immortality, Plagueis was prepared for death. His apprentice stabbed Plagueis, although before he died Plagueis took comfort in the fact that there were still things he had yet to teach his apprentice about the dark side of the Force.[1]
[edit] Personality and traits
Having fought in numerous conflicts during his life, Plagueis felt that he would have died in battle, which he was prepared for. Despite this, he later prepared himself for a different type of death, which eventually came at the hand of his apprentice's ascension to the throne of Dark Lord. Despite being a Dark Lord of the Sith, he felt that he had not accomplished anything, and he still felt a connection to love. Although whether it was before or after his fall to the dark side was unknown, he had defended the right to love, specifically when he fought to allow the son of one of his closest friends to love the daughter of a dictator in the Unknown Regions.[1]

Before falling to the dark side of the Force, Plagueis learned the secrets of immortality in an effort to save those he cared about, specifically the woman he loved, from dying. However, his loved one died before he could use the power on her, and it was not known if he shared the knowledge of his secret with anyone until he told his apprentice.[1]
